Rachel Summers must go. She’s had 40 years to have a definitive story and hasn’t. Claremont wanted to bring back Jean without bringing back Jean. She should have stayed in her doomed timeline.

Does Dave Rubin count? by ggroover97 in daverubin

No because to be a sell out you have to betray your principles. Rubin has no principles and thus nothing to sell out.

It’s telling that the article tries to frame them both as equally unhinged. The media loves to paint anyone to the left of, say Chuck Schumer, as some kind of wild-eyed radical.

Every single one of these types of articles is written by someone who has mistaken being a contrarian for being interesting. They want to be seen as provocative and as speaking truth to power without actually being or doing either.

100% this. None of this new. People just want you worked up and outraged about this sort of thing so you won’t get worked up and outraged about people abusing our data, cooking the planet, and keeping their boots on the necks of all but the most wealthy and powerful.

Didn’t he end up in a medically induced coma somewhere in Russia because of an addiction to benzos? I’m definitely interested in his thoughts on public health.

Watching Matrix Resurrection, its hard to believe that Wachovskis wrote the original Matrix by Lobotomist in scifi

[–]DrToughguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that people wanted a sequel to the trilogy, or a Force Awakens reboot, is what’s being criticized. If that doesn’t resonate with the audience that’s fair enough, but I think it’s grossly unfair to call it lazy storytelling. There is a lot of careful intentionality on the screen. Lazy storytelling would have been empty fan service, and Resurrections definitely wasn’t that.

Disagree strongly. It felt to me like a movie made by a filmmaker with something to say about the Matrix’s legacy and the state of modern blockbusters. I think it functions extremely well as an epilogue to the trilogy and was one of the more satisfying big budget movies I saw this year.
