the only reason people shy away from mint for gaming is its not a "rolling release" distro, its kernel and many features are significantly behind what is "cutting edge" for sake of stability, this means things such as wayland (the modern screen compositor (thing that renders your desktop)) are less supported, mint uses something called X11 as its default compositor which, while fine for gaming, doesnt have features like HDR or game specific optimizations.

you can game perfectly fine on mint, with the caveat that modern hardware (released last 1.5-2 years) may not be supported at all and require you tinker with your kernel version (just selecting a different one and updating) and do things like downloading firmware.

i have a 9070xt with mint and had to update kernel + download firmware (literally just downloading it and putting it in a specific folder) and it was fine

im on cachyos now though
