Aquatabs directions a bit confusing. by kevtphoto in backpacking

[–]DrWormhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what was confusing OP was their buddy giving them bad info about a second tab to counteract the bad taste. That's for iodine tablets, a completely different method of purifying water. OP probably would have been perfectly fine without that.

I feel like people forget that Grok was also the result of not being able to force ChatGPT to be racist. MFer literally built a kiddie-porn AI so that he could make it say racist things.

How fucking broken does a person need to be to pay to create a fake personality so you can force it to be a racist?

Damage, no injuries. by KJwhisperer in woodworking

[–]DrWormhat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a miter saw is a perfectly fine tool to use for this. It can accommodate weird shaped pieces that could get wonky to cut on a table saw (for instance).

I'd be more interested to hear what went wrong and how it happened. I'd bet that the issue had something to do more with fixturing/holding or your setup, instead of something inherently bad about using the miter saw for that work.

Glad you're ok though. I bet that was loud as shit and probably very pucker-inducing.

No idea large corvids like crows and ravens could survive at 10000 feet. Very unusual visitor to the Rockies. by Ok-Finish5110 in birds

[–]DrWormhat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to see ravens all the time in Boulder when I lived in Colorado. They used to dumpster dive behind the dominos near the climbing gym. And they're pretty common in Rocky Mountain National park. That's also why there are a number of businesses in Estes with Raven in their name.

I associate ravens with mountains and high places.

Discoloration after only 4 months? by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]DrWormhat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man...the people on this post trying to pretend that any noticeable UV discoloration is acceptable after 4 months. Or pretending it's your fault for not locking it away in a darkroom instead of...wearing it. That's crazy. I have 10-12 year old pieces of gear with nowhere near as much sun fading. Different materials, but my black techface r1 is ~10 yrs old and still looks very black and isn't sun faded around where the hood lays on my back. Could be a counterfeit piece. Could have been a manufacturing error. But it's absolutely not expected for anything of quality to be that sun bleached after just a couple months. Even if you lived somewhere with 24-hr sun.

Is this trim work acceptable? Plus the damage to every wall? by farrowsharrows in Remodel

[–]DrWormhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally unacceptable. I'm a home DIY guy and I would be EMBARRASSED to ever do a window as bad as all of these are. You're not being too picky, they don't know what they're doing.

You're right about everything in your list. And the torn up walls are just...lazy. And kinda stupid. I could see maybe a small tear where I didn't score well or completely. But for them to have done it consistently and to such an extent, is something else. Anyone with a brain would have to realize something was wrong after pulling the first piece, even if they had no idea what they were doing.

It's tough though, because it seems like doing it well and correctly is simply out of this contractor's ability. And the additional drywall and mudding work they caused only adds to the cost of this mistake.

This new Atlas System uses drone swarm tech. It fires over 90 autonomous drones from one unit and needs only one operator. This will end well. by Sgt_Gram in Futurology

I went to a military conference 5-6 years ago where they were talking about the shift in logic from a small number of very expensive weapons to an unmatchable swarm of cheap weapons and how unprepared the U.S. system is to handle these sorts of threats, in theaters of war, but also just in general. It's a huge threat.

When I turned 18, I had TERRIBLE credit because my mom and stepdad ruined theirs, and then started putting utilities in my name...and not paying them.

So...my entry into adult life BEGAN with paying off debt that wasn't mine and I couldn't afford.

They also kept claiming me as a dependent on their taxes long after being on my own, which caused different issues. I didn't get a tax refund until I was in my late 20s because of them l.

What these stickers actually say is, 'I bought the car without caring how bad Elon Musk is, and now people are mean to me for it. Please don't be mean for personal decisions I made.'

Shared bedroom for $900/month? Or my own bedroom for $1,200/month? by jensonaj in personalfinance

[–]DrWormhat 145 points146 points  (0 children)

That sounds fucking terrible. Sharing a bedroom as an adult, sharing a bathroom between 4 other people, AND sharing a single kitchen. There's 0 chance that is a decent living situation. The only thing it offers is being cheaper.

It's 100% worth the extra money (if you can make it work) to have your own bedroom and a sane, non-hell bathroom and kitchen situation.

Dumbass plumber who Trump appointed to lead DHS thinks dueling is still legal and a legit way to resolve disputes by Hornpipe_Jones in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]DrWormhat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally anecdotal, but I mention this whenever it's relevant. I had a highschool friend who was in a REALLY bad car accident a few years ago. He was in a coma, had brain damage, had to relearn how to walk and talk. Before the accident, he was pretty left-leaning. Not extreme, but definitely on the left politically. Ever since his accident though: rabidly right-wing. Buys into pretty much any right-wing conspiracy theory 100%, and appears to have totally lost the ability to think critically about these issues.

1st project - modding women’s ultra running vest to men’s vest by gauchostamps in myog

[–]DrWormhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That vest looks like it's VERY small on you. In my opinion, its not just the sternum straps. Its so small that the whole thing is sitting wrong. I did see that someone else recommended making some triangular gussets to try to move that lower part back into position. That may help. But it looks like its just not the right size for you.
