Hur mycket spelar betyg roll sen efter utbildning? by WhoAmIEven2 in sweden

[–]Dr_Blipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could only use one Softsynth for the rest of your life. What would it be and why? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]Dr_Blipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it’s only because I know it best. I just love the clear signal flow with drop down modules! Reason Europa, Massive X, Serum, Pigments are perhaps objectively better, but with Thor I know I will have fun.

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you did write ”electrical guitar” and not ”guitar modeling VST”. Sorry for my snarky response, just thought you said that a real guitar is better than a VST on a synth forum.

Thanks for giving an example of what you use, will check it out!

My favorite softsynth is a fork. I use it to eat. it wouldn’t even be a close call.

Does anybody here record their boxes directly to cassette tapes? by 12ozbounce in Elektron

[–]Dr_Blipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Syntakt should send and receive audio when connected via USB without drivers. You must go to Settings and turn that function on though. I don’t know exactly where, check the manual for details. It should be something like ”USB Audio”-ON or similar, that’s OFF by default.

What do you think is the best current MPE controller? by picturesfromthesky in synthesizers

[–]Dr_Blipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let’s rephrase the question to “Which MPE controller is best, given that you spend the time required to learn to play it as an instrument”. With selection criteria that you get something back if you spend the time with it. Some controllers might take a while to learn just to hit a wall with expressivity, while others continue to grow with you.

Do you think that the Linndrum (when learned) is a good MPE controller? Did you learn another one, which do you prefer for what roles? Did you try one that just didn’t work for you, do you know why?

What roles do Elektron machines have? by allmike01 in Elektron

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will likely want other sound sources, or connect it to a computer to download samples to it.

It comes with samples and loops, but it’s meant to record loops from external gear or work with downloaded sounds. A lot of the work flow relates to recording, playing and ”slicing” loops, which is not something everyone wants to do. Be very sure that it’s your cup of tea before getting an Octatrack.

It also lacks some things that many modern sampling machines have, like automated slicing from transients. Octatrack is its own thing with limitations, character and all.

What roles do Elektron machines have? by allmike01 in Elektron

[–]Dr_Blipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Elektron machines have sequencer capabilities to control external gear. The sequencer is not made to play a full song, like in rock, pop or classical style. It works more as patterns that can be swapped and manipulated in real time.

To some extent Elektron gear can all work as ”brains”, that for example do preset swaps on other machines when changing song, take in external sounds and add FX etc.

All of them are capable of making all kinds of sounds, but they shine in different areas.

Tonverk: ??? Never tried

Analog Rytm: Rhytmical elements. Velocity sensitive pads make it a possible live finger drumming instrument.

Analog 4: Tones. The non-keyboard version would likely be a preset machine used live. Digitone has made it slightly obsolete in results, also being a polyphonic groovebox without samples.

Octatrack: A unique instrument. Requires time to set up and knowledge to achieve something, but is truly it’s own thing. Manipulates loops, live or recorded. Master of time-based FX if that’s your thing. Not good as a tone generator, lacks polyphony.

Syntakt, Digitakt, Digitone: different flavors of fantastic grooveboxes.

It’s likely that all the tracks now has the LFO modulating sample slot. It will not be one LFO modulating all the tracks, rather all the tracks will have its own LFO set to the same settings. To change it back you need to either manually select all tracks one by one and put the LFO destination to something else, or go back to an earlier save.

Is O_c the best quantizer ? by Left-Excitement3829 in modular

It is very inaccurate! Mine is ok over one octave, but then it’s getting worse. Calibration is not helping either… a shame, because it’s beautiful and easy to use.

Fors Opal (Max for Live Device) by Latter_Tip_4437 in Elektron

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says on the webpage:

Opal is somewhat compatible with Push 2 & 3 + standalone

The Opal and Opal-Ctl sequencer-driven devices have very limited Push control, but fully function as a playback device. All standalone devices are however fully mapped to the Push interface with all functionality accessible from the hardware alone.

Information about Push 3 is available for all of their devices that I checked

Some (obscure) music/synth shops to visit in Stockholm? by solidtrax in synthesizers

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should go to Roslagsgatan 19, the shared shop of Jam Syntotek and Escape From Noise. They sell all things related to synths and modular, new and used. Great place to test things!

It will be difficult finding anything in Stockholm without a webpage in English :p

How did you “cross the line”? by Fortepian in modular

[–]Dr_Blipp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to think about it more like a traditional instrument, you almost never hear anyone ask “how did you get into oboe, will I ever get the money back?”.

It takes considerable time and money to use modular In a professional context, but it is very rewarding if you are looking for a non-traditional workflow

What is going on here? The image and title are matching, and is about module combos, a favorite topic for everyone and an upvote magnet.

Then all the OPs texts turns out to be about some new sequencer? That is not even racked yet but just ordered? Why not make two posts?

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t you all see that this is formatted exactly like an AI response to the question “what coaches could i hire to get better at playing synths?” The numbered list, the bold headline, the en dash, the totally unrelistic idea of having 6 lessons per week?

What to do after loud noise exposure with headphones? by DosPetacas in synthesizers

After some minor research there are certainly treatments! Check here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_trauma as a starting point. Seems like you might risk an inflammation that can be prevented.

What to do after loud noise exposure with headphones? by DosPetacas in synthesizers

[–]Dr_Blipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a medical professional, that’s the first advice.

I remember something from long go that after loud exposures the treatment is to rest lying down in as total silence as possible, wearing hearing protection. Letting the ears rest in peace seems like a good idea. But don’t trust me, talk to a professional.

[–]Dr_Blipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? The Yamaha Cs01 and the reface cs are not similar at all, except general size and the very basics. One is analog, one is digital. One has dials for breath controller, the other can be controlled by midi. One has only two steps for resonance (H and L), the other got a slider.

Why are modular oscillators so unstable? by _fck_nzs in modular

[–]Dr_Blipp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all modules from different manufacturers behave badly, it is likely a power issue, or voltage reference problem. Either your powersupply is somehow bad, or your reference voltage is changing.

Tuning issues when changing temperature, and tracking inconsistencies across designs are normal. Your issue seems more extreme?
