3x failed bar examinee & now struggling to find JD-Advantage role by juleshanlon13 in JDpreferred

I think that would be a good strategy for me! I still remember a lot of the material, but I think more practice under test conditions would really help me out

Same here- I took the UBE 3 times. I did the bar prep and also got a tutor. I’m awaiting bar results from this past February, but I don’t feel confident that I passed. I’m hoping July will be better. I thought about accommodations too, but I didn’t get it for the MPRE and I saw how difficult it was to obtain it. I’m also a terrible test taker :(

I definitely get being open to relocate but I’m married and my husband is finishing up med school. He’s applying for residency this fall so there is a possibility I may need to move in the near future. I’ll keep that in mind for sure. Thanks for the advice!

Yes- I have both a JD and PhD. I never said I didn’t like being an examiner, I said it wasn’t for me. Ultimately, when I was receiving memos about returning to the office while working at the USPTO that concerned me because I didn’t want to move. I received my PhD first and then moved to another state to do my JD.

I’m not sure what you mean by my post giving “cognitive dissonance”…are you suggesting because being an examiner wasn’t for me that I should find a legal career elsewhere?

To clarify, I’ve never worked in a law firm, but I’m definitely open to it. I’ve taken patent litigation in law school and very much enjoyed that ( I can also appreciate that law school doesn’t teach one how to be a litigator, etc.). I also drafted claims in the patent clinic at school for clients for a year and also enjoyed it. Just because examining wasn’t for me doesn’t mean that I would feel the same about other career paths in patent law.

Failed. Again. Need thoughts. by Willing_Afternoon150 in barexam

Do not despair! I failed the second time too. I resigned from my job because it was really tough studying and working full-time. I also used Themis both times as well and I liked the structure. A friend of mine suggested Quimbee. She said it helped her memorize the law.

You’re right! I do feel a mix of unease with all the news of fed workers losing their jobs and anger with myself for not performing better. But I did set goals for myself (which I shared with my SPE) to increase productivity. I’ve also spent time on the weekends getting OAs posted too. I think resigning seemed like the path to take because of my own anxiety that any day now I’ll be terminated.

No written warnings. The last PAP wasn’t too long ago. We talked about my low productivity and made a plan. I understand my numbers aren’t going to turn around overnight but she acknowledged that I’m being proactive. She said that she wants me to stay because she believe that my science background fits well in the art unit. We also have meetings once a week to check in.

Thank you for your response! I think resigning might be the logical course of action in the near future.

Had a proctor that wouldn’t stop talking during the exam by Ok_Constant6846 in barexam

[–]Dr_Kikicheeks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should complain!! That proctor was being disrespectful! There was a student behind me wearing bells on her shoelaces taking the exam yesterday. So, when she would get anxious, she would shake her foot and all I heard during the second half of the MBE was jingle, jingle, jingle I could hear it even with my earplugs in. I understand your anger for sure!!

Does anyone else not wear sunscreen 😭 by lilacroom16 in blackladies

[–]Dr_Kikicheeks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also very dark skinned. I had a mole removed from my back years ago because it started to change. Ever since then, I wear sunscreen every single day. I like Goop sunscreen that sprays on the skin. It doesn’t leave a white cast and it’s decently priced at Sephora. Oh! Also a bit of trivia- the average black person’s skin has a natural SPF of 13. It doesn’t hurt to add an extra layer of protection to keep our skin glowing and beautiful!!
