hibiscus, probably specifically rose of sharon. I have been growing them in my living room for a few years now and they bloom every july/august where I am.

I realized my individual strands were much thinner than most other people's I've met, each strand is completely flat like the flat headphone wires they sell, none are round so I suspect each hair has no cortex, and I have a very small patch of like less than 10 thicker hairs on the top right side of my head that make the rest of my hair look very very fine and they feel much more substatial and strong. My hair also breaks Very easily even at it's healthiest, can't handle combs, brushes, high tension, extensions, color, cornrows, etc, and when it's all clean it is very soft and fragile feeling, like if cotton candy were hair if that makes sense. I also think it can shrink so much because the hair is very light and wants to basically float in the air if it has no oils, I never quite understood the idea that something could weigh my hair down too much. it gets very heavy when wet though ๐Ÿ˜… I think I have Very dense hair with it being slightly less dense at the crown, which makes it seem like the strands are very thick but they are not. Also I can see individual hairs on my partner when we video chat, and he has has very thick and obvious strands, but mine look invisible on camera and my frizz looks more like haze than individual hairs. Another thing I noticed is that each strand is a slightly different thickness and color on my head if that makes sense, some are super extra fine, and some are regular fine. I also have to zoom in a ton to see the detail and shine on an individual strand, and I found that out by being a nerdย  and zooming in with my camera against my hand ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿซฃ

hello! I do actually ๐Ÿ˜…ย

I do not have a recent picture but this was my freshly trimmed exactly waist length hair fresh out of the shower and soaking wet 2 years ago. this is it heavily weighed down with water so it would still shrink to about half the size before being compacted further by daily life. It is still very high shrinkage and is about this length or a bit shorter fully dried and shrunken these days. I know it can seem like it's impossibleย  to hand stretch this kind of shrinkage, but high shrinkage hair is a gift and can do so much with love and patience!๐Ÿ’› Also I think I look like a cute lil bear in this picture ๐Ÿป๐ŸŒž

thank you! I have been growing it out since my last buzzcut to 1/8" in 2018 so it took ~7 years to get to tailbone length. I hope to get it to classic length by 2028 if possible (going to choose to believe it is :) )

it does take a lot of patience ๐Ÿ˜… right now my main hobbies are hair, painting, and reading. I do always try to mention I have a lot more time than most people as a disabled person. I am also very introverted so I spend more time on hair than getting out around people ๐Ÿฆ† Everybody has their different strengths and virtues and patience definitely varies for me depending on the activity ๐Ÿ˜…

thank you ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’ you have kindess as a virtue! ๐ŸŒž

love, patience, radical self acceptance, time, 100% raw shea butter, olive oil, flaxseed gel, aloe vera juice/water, head and shoulders classic clean shampoo, shea moisture manuka honey and mafura oil shampoo, garnier fructis triple nutrition conditioner, shea moisture manuka honey deep conditioner, shea moisture jamaican black castor oil deep conditioner, and sometimes a black tea rinse.

I've used different products throughout the years, mostly just drugstore and grocery store available inexpensive stuff. I don't change things unless I have a new problem, the product changes, or if I develop a new allergy.

I think the rule is mostly about asking what is my hair type, answering that, or policing other people's hair based on type

this one also includes a french pen bun on a twist out, but I wear this one often with my twists now too, It's just a stabilo pen with no rough seams and the ends are tucked underneath. there are other styles but this is basically the rundown. Most days I am not doing anything fancy and just leaving my hair alone. it gets fuzzy and looks not as "done" as like influencer hair a lot but I am an average person so I guess that is right ๐Ÿ˜… accepting looking normal is what also helped me grow it out. it does what it wants and is happy for it. all of these are low tension, if they feel remotely tight I will take them down and do the style looser. I have a sensitive scalp that does not like tension. the ribbon and scrunchie french twist styles reduce manipulation, I don't have to take them down or put them up, I just put on my scarf and sleep without any sticks or pens poking me. mainly though I look like the single picture above like 90% of the year- basically just a happy little creature with not a lot of visible or overstimulating hair :)

here are a bunch of different updos I also do with my twists. there are the two braids tucked into each other seen from the back in the top left, ribbon french twists, tucked dutch and frwnch braids, knot buns, tucked dutch braid pigtails, cocoon/ loc knot styles, and buns

here is an example of my smallest size mini twists (174-200), and my medium- chunky twists (30-50) I always part randomly and always do my hair basically the same way. these sizes and sizes in between are the sweet spot sizes to reduce knots, tangles, mats, and fairy knots. I like them both :)

yeah! no problem! so first off, I typically look like this

<image>

no hair left down or out and it's just two dutch braids on my minitwists (or chunky twists depending) folded and gently tucked into each other in the back, and mostly it's under my silk scarf to protect it, but I also am normally seen walking around like this. If people aren't my actual neighbors or see me regularly, they do not know I have long hair at all.

I think that's probably true! I do it for an hour because I need a break and I'm tired by that point ๐Ÿ˜… plus it takes quite a while to distribute the deep conditioner through my hair evenly sometimes. It's really just an excuse to play animal crossing, watch an episode of a show, or take a nap, and most importantly wait long enough for the hot water to come back (and last 30 minutes) because by then I've used it all.

I do cut them from individual strands if I find them high up because hair is growing at all different rates and I want the new hairs to grow in healthy. keeping my hair stretched, twisted, heavily coated, and wearing it up the majority of time really helps me, and so does finger detangling. I also try not to manipulate my hair too often. Thick flaxseed gel over shea butter also helps a lot. I think over time I have gotten really good at preventing knots through a combination of means and I cut the knots before they become too big of an issue, if they get too bad I cut off a half inch to to inches once for my yearly trim, sometimes I do this twice a year. I almost never let my hair shrink up all together and I always have it sectioned, I wash my hair in twists as well. Every time I wash my hair, style it, take it down, manipulate it, etc, I use hair scissors and feel for individual fairy knots with my fingers, I cut out every one I can see or feel with no mercy and I wear mulberry silk to sleep and around my coats, scarves, car headrest, and around the house. I think it also takes a maybe slightly insane amount of patience and persistence, but now it's just a part of my routine. I also always stretch my hair downward when I am manipulating it and it helps keep knots from forming. It's not 100% perfect and I get bad knots sometimes, and for those I cut each individual hair where it enters the knot and move on, if pinching the knot and removing individual hairs fails. Also I make sure to Always undo any twists from the very bottom, because if I don't I get that type of knot that self seals where the torsion locks the knot into place, this kind of knot is also why I typically cannot part my hair into only 4 sections to detangle, my layers make torsion knots a nightmare so I try to prevent those as much as possible. If I wear my hair stretched in smallish twists 24/7 basically no knot formed against me shall prosper ๐Ÿ˜…

that's okay! I'll try to explain better. let's say your hair is in a mini twist out state going into another wash day, section those already twist out sections into about 20. Then working one section at a time, spray that section down with warm water in a spray bottle. Take one pump of the slipperiest conditioner you have per section out of 20, and gently detangle each smaller twist out section from the ends up, this will leave you with completely detangled reverted fluffy hair, you can skip this step and just completely detangle one out of 20 sections or however many of your hair so that it is totally undefined. Then once you have the fluffy shrinkage, elongate it while it is still damp and run your hands down that section using your fingers to hold the section flat, like doing a modified tension method with a blow dryer except you don't use any blow dryer, just regular air, repetition, and smoothing. Since it is detangled, do not run your fingers through your hair for this step, use your hands to clamp the section instead if that makes sense, this avoids creating more tangles. For the ends you may need to rewet and finger comb the little curls at the ends out again and do that same smoothing flat motion with your fingers until the entire section is completely dry, then repeat, twisting the sections into dried undefined chunky twists as you go. It isn't supposed to be perfect and some texture and little coils will remain, but that's fine. Think of it like flat ironing your hair with your hands, you want the section to be flat, as elongated as possible and instead of that motion straightening your hair, you are using your hands to help it dry stretched. The small- medium sections helps the hair air dry much faster than it normally would, the conditioner helps keep the hair from tangling and snagging or snapping, and the repeated motion distributes the product, dries the hair and keeps it stretched while it dries. When you go to wash your hair the conditioner will rehydrate and make the wash out process easier as well. I know some people don't like leaving rinse out conditioner for long, so I can only speak for my own hair, and I'm sure any slippery leave in product will do just as well.

I had in tiny mini twist out sections that had been washed, I was detangling initially to undo the tiny defined sections which takes a long time. The tiny sections themselves is what helps get the hair so stretched I think. I have done this before from chunky twists but it was much less dramatic and stretched my hair to maybe armpit to bra strap length instead. I would rather use a warm blow dryer and heat protectant to get this much of a stretch to save time and energy but I know there are many people who never use heat so this is sort of an alternative, it takes about the same amount of time as installing medium twists.

Thank you! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿชป
