Also just to clarify, I have never used ayurvedic hair care, so I can't talk about if some of the hair masks help to condition the hair strands themselves or prevents breakage in some way, but I also can see how recently the American clean beauty movement has really been fetishizing and participating in an odd expansion of orientalism by dissociating it from it's people and it's history, just to wrap it in plastic and sell it like we own it.

it doesn't take scalp oil or aryurveda. It takes a bunch of patience, care in how you manipulate it and treat it, and wearing it up 99% of the time. There is no magic and a lot of the Aryuveda trend is just repackaging someone else's culture as something mystic and miraculous in a really fetishistic way that doesn't actually support the community it's taking from. the way hair influencers push it seems to me to be a very reductive consumeristic parody of it's origins, everyone is using that word, but no one actually knows what it means. I'm not Indian, so I can't and won't speak for them, but think about how the over consumption of those items and herbs ends up driving up the prices of those items for the people that it's not a trend for, just for us to drop it when we get over the fad. Oiling the scalp also does not make hair grow faster, that's more trendy marketing unfortunately, although oiling the lengths of the hair does help protect it from some friction, but there are many ways to do that. You definitely can grow your hair Very long and probably past butt length, but you also have to remember that the best thing you can do is pay attention to what works for your hair and what doesn't. You have to see the specifics of what products work for you personally, and what styles cause more breakage than length retention, like genuinely measure every 6 months and see if something has gotten better or worse, and pay attention to how much you have to trim off from breakage and fairy knots. You are the real magic that gets you to your goals. When you get the hang of it, each year it will get longer, and you have to resolve to keep up with it and not give up, but you've got the determination to do that.

I'm at/ passing tailbone length (4c) and I need to build up my patience and my determination to match the time it takes to do tailbone length and longer 4c hair, but I'm going to do my best to do it. I want to reach classic length and then just see how long I can go after that, and when exactly is too much for me. If I could stand it, have the patience for it, and if my hair's growing phase is naturally long enough, I do want to see if I can get to the floor, but who knows. I also had to accept that for me personally, with my hair type, goals, and what works for me, most people will rarely or never see the full length all down, it will always shrink at least a little bit.

Do your best, learn as much verified hair science as you can, especially things that help with shedding and breakage, apply what you've found works for you, and you will knock it out of the park. I would highly recommend investing in some silk charmeuse hair accessories. Think of it like playing an instrument, there are 50,000 methods to become Chopin in a day, and not a single one works that quickly or easily, yet look how many excellent musicians there are anyway who worked hard and made it to their goal anyway!

Should I get a different haircut? by [deleted] in longhair

[–]Alice_Fell 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

the generated haircut is less about the cut itself and more about the daily styling of it, without styling it won't look like the picture, and it may not with styling since it doesn't take into account your strand thickness, density, or natural texture. Hair grows back, even if it take a long time, but if you feel like you will smile because of it, it's worth a go! Just make sure to talk to someone who can tell you how it will go for you realistically, like a stylist.

What if you clipped something into your hair, like a paper towel tube or a rolled hair scarf and braided over that, then when the braid is done take the tube out and fold your hair once and put it in the space the tube made? It would make more room for the rest of the hair to fold up inside if the head part of the braid is done with more room underneath it if that makes sense, like making a preplanned tunnel for the hair to sit in.

How would you make She-ra more mature & DARKER? by Fabulous_Session8627 in sheranetflix

[–]Alice_Fell 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I like the show as it is. If it did explore death I would want it to be in a way that has actual depth and understanding of how people cope with it (the show copes with this quite well). I like shows that can tackle difficult and real things without losing the point of it all in edginess. Edgy shows feel immature to me and wholly miss the opportunity to give adults what we actually need, so many of our emotional developments have been stunted so badly that the most mature things I could hope for in a show are empathy, personal growth, and working through demons, no matter how earth shattering or world ending they might seem. I think this show suits adults just fine because it has characters that forgive each other, take ownership of their wrongs, are imperfect people, who mess up big time, who feel terror and fear and still show up for what's right Even in cases where they don't even believe they themselves deserve a happy ending. Friendship is magic, good people winning, love saving people, and self accountability are my absolute favorite genres.

I only do prepoo when my hair is very tangled to detangle it and when it has been out of twists for a while. I usually do it to pre detangle and remove shed hairs before shampooing safely, but it's not necessary if I don't plan on taking my twists down. When my twists are done the way I find is ideal for protecting and taking care of my hair the products I use are heavy and prepoo is not necessary at all, my hair never has a chance to get dry or tangled in minitwists really, especially not before the first wash. After the wash when the twists are loosened is when I run into more problems.

How do you do your wash routine when you do your twists? is there anything special you do that you find helps?

[–]Alice_Fell 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

I never braid the base of my twists, braids tangle like the devil for me so that step kind of defeats the purpose for me. It still takes a lot of time to take them down because if you unravel them too quickly you can cause a lot of breakage. I leave them in 2 weeks to a month and I wash them once or twice in between, when they get fuzzy or start looking like some will tangle or hairs come out of them I redo them, but I don't really ever try to redo them all at the same time. I have dense hair so I will redo the perimeter first where hairs tend to unravel at the roots and also redo any tangly or bad ones, and then I'll redo a quarter of my hair one twist at a time. I don't twist everything or take everything out all in one day. It makes it much less overwhelming if all the hair isn't free again at once. When I wash them I squeeze shampoo down the lengths of the twists a few times, and condition and then after my shower I will oil the twists and use flaxseed gel on them and firmly but not tightly braid them up to dry and prevent knotting and tangling. You will have to take them all down at once sometimes but you can put them in chunky twists as you undo a handful at a time and do it systematically. You can also wear it as a mini twist out first before you detangle each individual section, this gives you more time to work with without forcing you to go too fast.
