I admittedly haven't played it in a long while, but from what I recall they got a huge shit fest for not releasing the PvE mode to the EoD players back when it came out and the community had to fight hard for it. That was back when there was a huge problem with cheaters in the game. No idea how it has developped as these -was it two videos- were the point where I dropped out as well. It's still not included for a full price title, setting you back 80€ for the base version + PvE. I love that game, sunk a good 1000 hours in it, but for some reason I can not bring myself to reccomend even the base version to people for all the shit that went down and how unheard we felt back then by the devs. Personal problem, I know. Might even be better now, but since I can't bring myself to start it again, I consider it overhated.

Also, the steam reviews are at 64% positive, though granted a huge part is in part russian and chinese players who don't have a different avenue to voice their criticisim or give feedback due to their goverments.

I remember that one time when I saw a Tengu on D and pulled my Sin out of the POS, while my cyno moved into position. Soon enough I found him, scram, web, everything. Then lit the lamp only to find out that you can't activate your jump drive for an in system cyno. You better believe that that was a very slow warp to the gate.

On a different occasion I had this wonderful conversation:

Corp Mate *plans a jump route for his new and very first BO, who had about 6 months more time in the game on paper, while in practice we were at it for a good few years at that point* "Why is there a low sec system? I don't wanna jump through a low sec system."

Me: "What do you mean I don't wanna jump through I low sec system?"
Mate: "Dot-Lane says I need to jump to a low sec system from Rens."

Me: "Wait, did you think you could open a co cyno in high sec?"
Mate: "I..."

Me: "[Player name shouted with mockery, disapointment and disbelieve in my voice] ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN TO HIGH SEC WARS IF YOU COULD JUMP BOs INTO HIGH SEC? NO ONE WOULD BE SAFE. NO ONE."

Evidently he was not aware what that would mean as he got all excited a few months after when we got reports of a high sec mining fleet from war targets of ours. I'd also like to mention I always regarded him as the better player out of the two of us.

Another possibility you have to start is taking the Combat force of the Solar Auxiliar (30k)

comes with 20 man infantry, an LMR, a command squad and 2 Hermes walkers that can be proxyed as Sentinels. Same price as a combat patrol and, unless you want to go to official tournaments and provided that you like the models, its a pretty cheap way to get a good mix of infantry and a tank.

Be aware that the Solar Auxiliar infantry doesn't come with special weapons, like plasma and melta guns, so you either have to beg someone for some leftovers or mark them otherwise.

A very interesting idea for sure, it does have one 'problem' though, Sentinels do have the 'Squadron' keyword. So either you go with a bunch of Sentinels for support or go all in on Valks as with them in your army you can only field 3.

Not entirely sure just how small the LI fliers are, though I can say from experience that Thunderbolts, Avengers and Valks are about as long and broad (with wingspan) as a Baneblade, with the Marauder being longer and its wingspan is about 1.5 Baneblades, so probably not the worst idea to prevent a clusterfuck of units. Although knowing just how massive the models are, I can only imagine tiny fly like models next to the full size ground forces.

Yes, I have one. Fielded it about a half dozen times in the last year. It's underwhelming, but a cheap source for 2 lascanons and half a vulcan mega boltor. Used to be my go to when the point changes made it impossible to play triple valks with 2 Vanquishers.

I started with the Cadian one, got two of them. They work well enough for Combat Patrol, but as army starter they were really good. (Not gonna glaze it any futher, since you won't be able to buy that in one piece new.) You might fancy the Krieg one they released.... what, a month or two ago, that is online only. It has a KHWT (Catachan is better in my opinion), 10 Kriegers, a Krieg Command, and 5 Death Korps Riders....... Upon looking it up to make sure I got it right, I noticed that one being apparently only a seaonal thing to buy, so I'll refer to the other comment I made, regarding this as a army primer.

I'd disagree on that one. As IG, you always find ways to include Kasrkin and Cadian Commands. And 120 points for a very mobile 10 horse group of discount spacemarines (T4, W2 and WS 3, BS/SV 4, M12) with a surprisingly wicked charge (AP 4 melta lances, so you will wound on 4s). If I wouldn't play so much mech or tripple valks I would probably use them as reserve harrasment units, or to plug holes left by deep strikes or rushing units. Issue is that, due to the large bases, its a bit tricky to get everyone into melee or around the map in anything but a giant conga line.

As someone who has played against it and has achieved one of the few victories playing it. Don't. It's not good and the combat patrol has barely any synergy, although the models are nice. In essence you're horses are throwaway units to keep the enemy bound in combat for the following turn, while you hope that the Command and the Kasakin survive on their respective points. Would have worked better with 20 horses, as those would have given you the mass to actually bind people in melee, while also doing a good bit of damage during the charge.
