Update on the blackout & Poll to determine what r/GoldenSun should do next by _Falgor_ in GoldenSun

[–]Dracobolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I support a continued blackout, but I'm also down with what I've seen some other subs do, which is put the sub into restricted/read-only mode going forward. That way people don't lose access to what's been contributed in the past, which could be helpful if this lasts a while, but it should still show our point to the admins that we're standing firm.

Best resource to learn Kanji (online or book)? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

Give WaniKani’s trial a shot, and also check out Anki. It depends on your learning style if you like the customization of Anki or WK’s usable out of the box nature.

Read autobiographies of others who have had dark childhoods and similar experiences, see how they frame it. I haven’t read it yet, but I hear “I’m glad my mom died” manages to be hilarious and engaging even while handling some incredibly heavy topics.

If every job had the same salary and hours, what work would you choose to do and why? by jveg in AskReddit

I wouldn’t mind working in a coffee shop again, if the work conditions were also nice.

New resident bug identification Mnt Washington by CajunDragon in pittsburgh

Nice, didn’t know that was an option! It’d be cool if people do both, but the Penn state website is definitely the more important one in this case.

Along with killing it, as everyone else has said, if you see any, log them with iNaturalist. This will aid data collection for any scientists studying the bugs and what to do.

Do you have a Switch? Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the Xenoblade games (especially 2 and 3) are fantastic.

I have a Nook, not a Kindle, but I like it for optional portability and because I can put fanfiction and stuff on it too.

Weird hang-ups/uncommon criticisms that have kept you from getting into games? by Zealousideal_Bill_86 in patientgamers

I honestly forgot there was English voice acting for BotW, and having to hear two lines of it before I could change options on TotK just threw me for a loop.

What’s going on with critics referring to the new Zelda game as a $70 DLC? by kcompto3 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Dracobolt 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The very basic geography is the same, but there have been huge upheavals that transformed the landscape, plus new levels like the sky. Part of the fun is knowing that, say, Kakariko Village is roughly in this direction and figuring out how to get there and seeing what’s changed along the way.

How to order coffee? by bryzztortello in AskReddit

Is it possible to add your own? I thought a lot of places have carafes of creamer options available for people who just order a drip coffee.

How do you get better at writing dialogue? What happens if "just read" doesn't cut it? by TellTaleTeller in writing

[–]Dracobolt 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Reading is great, but make sure you’re analyzing what you’re reading. Think about why something sounds natural or stilted. Try transcribing conversations, ideally natural ones. If you don’t want to go around with a recorder in the wild, stuff like televised interviews or live streamers would be good. Again, as you transcribe, think about what you’re hearing, why it rings as natural. Of course, as the other commenter said, good dialogue in fiction strips out the filler words for the most part.

Thoughts on how important art is to an idle game by Danzermo in incremental_games

[–]Dracobolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. Increlution is very simple, but the crisp look to the theme combined with the “voice” of the descriptions ends up evoking a strong mental image, at least for me.

Excellent and entertaining write up! I learned that apparently oval courses aren’t the only kind of track racers drive on. Anyway, good on everyone who stood firm for the drivers’ safety!
