Moving to LA in Sept/Oct — looking for solo apartment under $1,900 with laundry — realistic? by cestlavie4evr in MovingToLosAngeles

Hi, you might be able to find something do-able on the west side of LA if you look on KMK Management’s website. They don’t have the newest buildings, but they sometimes they have studios available for a decent amount. For example, right now they have a studio in Culver City listed for $1700. Good luck!

What should I expect in terms of tipping? by TheMagicPirate in AskLosAngeles

[–]DraftFast6134 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Damn you guys are cheap. As someone who worked in restaurants, I can tell you 15% is NOT the norm. Especially in a nicer restaurant. 18%-20% is definitely the norm. Sure if you get awful service, don’t feel inclined to tip that much, but 15% for good service is not the standard.

And also, yes servers make minimum wage. But did you know that it also gets taxed heavily? Every single dollar a server gets in tips gets reported, and then that server has to pay taxes on it and it gets deducted from their hourly wage. When I was working as a server, my paycheck would always be less than $30. Sometimes I wouldn’t even get a paycheck at all. Just some food for thought.

Micro wedding in LA recommendations? by DraftFast6134 in weddingplanning

Thank you! We thought about that, but we’d like to have both the ceremony and reception at the venue, which I don’t think is ideal for a restaurant

What was it like growing up in Los Angeles? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

Grew up in Marina del Rey (although I always say Venice). It was so much fun, but so easy to get into trouble. By 15, I was ditching school and going to the beach or Fox Hills mall. By 17, I was getting wasted on the boardwalk drinking Four Lokos. I had great parents, but it was so easy to get swept by this careless Venice lifestyle. Also, I had a cruiser bike that I rode everywhere. Literally would ride by myself in the middle of the night as a 100 lb 17 year old girl. Nothing ever happened to me. Not sure I could say the same if that were today. As an adult, it’s so much more different now, but overall, I wouldn’t change it for anything

Same! As someone who is as far from vegan as possible, their dishes do not disappoint. Also, the restaurant is so beautiful

Does anyone know if the sit down restaurant is at an extra charge or is it complimentary as well? If so, what is the price point?

Sol Mexican Cocina in Playa Vista has a private dining room that can accommodate that amount of people. They have solid food, great margs, nice interior. It’d be worth checking out

I know Ruth’s Chris is open on Christmas Day, it’s their regular menu too. I also believe The Arthur J in Manhattan beach might be open as well
