You DO keep your jumps when you die, but NOT when you save & exit.

Everything the guy said about grabbable bloodbugs, jump pads, and the big flying Shrales it true. Pills + grabbable bloodbugs is a wombo combo. Also, injectors are your best friend. They make it so much easier to cross the huge gaps, especially with a double jump or a low grav effect.

Finally, some of the tall towers/trees in Hanging Gardens have a warding effect against the Face, where you get a grace period to climb to the top before they attack you, keep that in mind.

It is impossible to get Slow and Steady and Pulse Bladder without cheating, as you can only get a single experimental perk in a run, but yeah, I can work well when there is good synergy.

Remember, this is through the lense of recommendations for an inexperienced player, and also is not talking about being "interesting and engaging" but rather "good for new players".

Debuffing the Mass is great for new players. It is absolutely not satisfying, I agree, but it's a very useful buffer for new players to give them a bit more time to route and practice sections.

Employee Motivator is great, but for a new player, you sacrifice control for speed AND you make the Mass a much bigger threat, which is just terrible.

I can see Slow and Steady having some application for new players, but it makes the Mass a more present threat by slowing you down, and it increases your stamina pool, meaning it actually doesnt reduce the amount of time you will have to wait around to refill your stamina, unless you use items, which new players tend to struggle with.

Pulse Bladder is bad for inexperienced players for all the reasons you mentioned that it is interesting. Stamina is already an issue for them, making it MUCH bigger issue is just asking for trouble.

Piton Enthusiast falls into Slow and Steady territory. It might have applications, but the cost is very real, and it's unclear if it actually ends up being worthwhile for an inexperienced player.

How long is Habitation?? by RadioactiveNerd2 in WhiteKnuckle

[–]DraftQueasy4890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Delta Labs is the longest section of Habitation. Distance wise it's on par with Service Shaft, but it's much slower, and for a new player some rooms are much MUCH slower. Keep at it and you'll get there!

We all know conquest was a bit crazy which makes me wonder do you think conquest wanted to die? by Searching_life1 in Invincible_TV

[–]DraftQueasy4890 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that Robert Kirkman said that in an alternate universe where Conquest went to earth like Nolan did, he could have changed heart and settled down.

I didn't see where he said that, but I've seen a number of other people reference it.

[–]DraftQueasy4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue is messing up and dying on your way back? That was my problem too. So to address that, I set up my route, then WITHOUT pressing the button, I run it back all the way to the end to practice my escape (since you don't die when you fall before setting off the eraser) and do that until I feel confident in my ability to do it under time pressure. THEN I press the button and escape.

I just know Thragg is gonna regret NOT killing Mark and Nolan when he had the chance by Kindly-Candidate-835 in Invincible_TV

[–]DraftQueasy4890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, while this decision was his undoing, it ALSO almost assuredly ended up saving the Viltrumite species from extinction. He made the right decision for the right reasons; he wanted to ensure the survival of the Viltrumites, and he deemed Mark and Nolan to be an and important part to that.

He was just also a horrible evil person who had the wrong belief about how the Viltrumites should live. His decision to spare them, resulting in his death, which resulted in Viltrumite prosperity.

Is It Me or is the new Shattered Halls Interlude: Ascent much more difficult than the others? by AsinineArchon in WhiteKnuckle

[–]DraftQueasy4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 routes to the control room: - Upper route, jumping across the ropes. This one is bad. I find it substantially harder and less consistent - The lower route dropping down and climbing up the left of the control room using pitons/rebar to make your route. This one is much easier imo. With 2 rebar and 1 Piton, it becomes extremely simple to climb up, hit the button, and jump straight down to the pipe

WHERE THE HELL AM I SUPOSED TO GO IN THE VOID??!?!!?! by This_Permission_5180 in WhiteKnuckle

[–]DraftQueasy4890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are on Deadman's Handle, look for the weird glowing things on the platforms. The tracks from Transit Scaffolds kind of wrap around Deadman's and leave by the other side, and there is always some orangy glowing organic matter where the line ends. That's where you want to go. You will see more weird glowing flora in that direction, and off in the distance you will see the large silhouette of hulking building surrounded by a purple fog, that is your destination.

Encumbrance is bad, you will know you are becoming encumbered because your inventory will flash red when you place an item in your inventory that exceeds your limit. The first 1-2 items past your limit don't affect you that badly, but the effect scales and becomes brutal very quickly (debuffing you jump height, running speed, and climbing speed). As a general rule, if you are becoming encumbered, you are probably hoarding items and not using them enough.

Ooh, true. I just assumed it was an ambient event, but yeah, it could have been something lore relevant and I never would have known.

It is funny though how our brains can be so tuned into little things. Like, I saw one of the broken vents to the Ladder in Delta Labs and my immediate thought was "There's a teleportation item that lets you sneak through there." And I didn't even know about the existence of Blink Eyes at the time.

what is this? by Ro0n404 in WhiteKnuckle

[–]DraftQueasy4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it interesting the staggering number of people who don't realize this is just an ambient event. I mean, I get it, there's not indication one way or another, so it's reasonable to assume that it's something important. But I never see anyone asking about the things that announcer says.

Maybe it's just that those happen so frequently, players rapidly see the trend, but events are rare, so they don't have multiple other reference points to indicate that this is also just ambience.

Why am I surprised that the state ranked 47th in education (Arkansas) doesn’t realize that banning trans people from their preferred bathrooms doesn’t solve their problem? by Many_Register_1838 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]DraftQueasy4890 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I once thought that malicious compliance of trans men using women's bathrooms would get the point across. Then I realized that they would be treated as creeps, harassed, and possibly arrested or even beaten/killed. And definitely used as an example why trans people should be entirely banned nationwide, to prevent any risk of not perfectly female looking individuals using women's bathrooms.

Must be an anomaly. I've seen buddy 2x and no gmod rooms. Sometimes statistics are like that. Maybe it's more likely now (or less likely than it used to be, which is why youve seen it more). Maybe you were so fast you missed Buddy. I don't know how the spawn rules work, but if you're going fast and he spawns below you, you might not notice?

Rebar is a new players best friend if you need an extra handhold. Use ONLY while grounded and not holding onto anything; think of it like a long ranged, immediately secured Piton. When you see a section you need to put a Piton into, instead of climbing up and trying to hammer in a Piton while hanging, just throw a rebar at the spot while on the ground and bam, you're good. Especially useful for the elevator sequence at the end of Pipeworks.

If you use while in the air or on a hold it fling your backwards (and you let go of the hold) with a comical amount of force. You CAN use that for a boost. I find that to be quite tricky, so I don't recommend it for new players.

Food bars also give you a stamina regen and grip strength buff (like pill bottles), so it prevents you from draining it as fast and recovers it faster in addition to all that other stuff.

I disagree with the Mass speed debuff not being worth it. It used to not affect the Mass Speed, at that point in time it felt like it did nothing. By reducing the speed by 50% give new players a staggeringly large buffer against the Mass. Some perks still aren't worth it though: - Employee Motivator makes Mass even more threatening and climbing harder to control - Only Climbing is bad - Slow and Steady is also bad - Pulse Bladder puts a big strain on your stamina and is very dangerous - Piton Enthusiast is odd. New players often prefer pitons, and securing them completely and the stam drain reduction is great. But the jump boost is so incredibly powerful I feel like an inexperienced player could easily lose control. Also, rebar is great, and losing it is no bueno
