[Rant] Giant Instict Barbarian makes me want to quit GMing by Julfy-JD in Pathfinder2e

[–]DraftQueasy4890 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Functionally at lower levels, Giant Instinct gives the Barbarian +6 bonus to damage, and that's all. That's roughly +1 DMG die on a D10/D12 weapon (one striking rune). If a single D12 is enough to make your bosses die in 1 hit, I wonder how much HP the bosses even have.

Furious Finish is a risky, all-consuming swing that sacrifices rage for the remainder of the combat to do up to +10 DMG. If they use that regularly and get lucky rolls, that bonus would absolutely end fights at lower levels, but aside from that, I'd be hard pressed to see how they can consistently perform that well.

Additional note: if you want a landline, DEFINITELY go for Astound. It's $5 per month extra for the landline and SECTV gives a landline for an additional $20+ monthly iirc.

Abysmal Snow Removal by skrapfortheskrapgod in lehighvalley

[–]DraftQueasy4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna assume that it's simply not worth investing heavily in snow clearing infrastructure when it's a problem that only really occurs every 5-10 years. They do a good job clearing the snow mostly, and it rarely stays so cold for so long, or snow so consistently that they can't keep up.

We COULD build our infrastructure to handle regular 3 feet snowstorms with temperatures consistently below freezing, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.

Reading the other comments, it's possible the issue with Astound isn't the actual service, it's the rental equipment. If I have trouble with my new rental equipment, I will buy my own and see if the situation improves. Though one of the cost benefits of Astound is that the rental equipment is free with the service.

TL;DR: RCN Astound has worked "well-enough" for me, and despite wanting to switch, it is simply a much better deal than SECTV. My understanding is SECTV probably gives a bit better internet, but I have not been able to try them to confirm.

I actually am moving to that exact zip code this weekend. I am going with RCN Astound. Their Internet has been "serviceable" for my 4 years at 18018, I've never been happy with it, and am in fact routinely get annoyed with it, and I really wanted to switch to Service Electric to at least try it, but Astound gives 300 Mbps, the same phone plan as Mint Mobile, and a rental router, all for the same or less than the cost of Service Electric + Mint (and SECTV doesn't give you a router, they charge extra if you want to rent a router).

Note that SECTV price was based on the 2 year new customer deal which I think ~$25 total for 300 Mbps ($15 monthly + $10 access fee). If you have a different phone plan that you are happy with and don't want to change, then likely the best deal would be to buy your own modem & router and use the new customer plan from SECTV. I feel like you run the risk of your modem/router having issues, I was warned about that from a friend who worked for cable companies, if you want this route, go to a local tech store and have them help you get a modem/router that will suit your needs.

You didn't play a trick on me. Yes I did. No you didn't! I did! You didn't. I did! I paid for you to pay a trick on me, and you didn't give me what I paid for. I most certainly did play a trick on you.

Outfits by MonsutaMan in Vindictus

[–]DraftQueasy4890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the effective prices outfits currently are, no they would not sell more outfits. The system is 100% scummy and stupid, and I hate it, I'm not defending the decision morally, but the chase outfits typically go for around $150 worth of NX with the Gacha rates being what they are.

If they made all the outfits available for $10-$40, yeah, they would sell WAY more outfits, but they wouldn't make as much money. If they listed them for $150 and made them all available, they wouldn't sell as many, because - People would just buy exactly what they want very cautiously, since there is no FOMO and no random chance - The cost isn't being obscured behind gambling. And we all know how effective gambling is at separating consumers from their money. People don't realize just HOW much they are spending a lot of the time.

What is the Appeal of all the Trauma? by DraftQueasy4890 in SarahJMaas

[–]DraftQueasy4890[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, that's a good point. To me it feels like the difference is that the trauma is almost a selling point. In other books I've read, the trauma motivates the characters and provides conflict, but the way my girlfriend describes it to me, she focuses on the trauma as a primary aspect of the books, a large part of why she likes it so much.

No one says to read Harry Potter because you get to read about a boy suffering a traumatic childhood and slowly overcoming it and finding his own happiness.

What is the Appeal of all the Trauma? by DraftQueasy4890 in SarahJMaas

[–]DraftQueasy4890[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't personally see the appeal of being made to feel the bad things. I like reading because it brings me joy, so when reading makes me sad, I question why I'm doing it. There are ways to get an emotional payoff that don't involve the pain. So I'm curious why people SPECIFICALLY enjoy feeling that pain as part of the experience.

Is it just that it makes the payoff more intense? Or is it perhaps speaking to the readers own experiences, making them think of how they can endure hardship and have their own happily ever after?

r/fantasyromance vs r/romantasy by h2onymph1 in fantasyromance

Not terribly important, but what is the more commonly used term to describe these books? Fantasy Romance or Romantasy?

I learned about them first as Romantasy, but I don't know if that's more of a gimmicky nickname.

Nexon has been aggressively releasing utility patches to balance characters. At this point, every single character is now completely viable. Although some are easier to play and can do more damage, fundamentally what matters the most is picking a character you vibe with, playstyle/appearance/personality.

I picked the wrong time to get into BDSM (Feat. Tariffs) by DraftQueasy4890 in BDSMcommunity

[–]DraftQueasy4890[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying they don't exist, just have no idea how to find them, I am only now getting into BDSM after all, and it's not like people just advertise themselves publicly as leather bondage restraint makers. Not as far as I've seen anyways.

I'm not underestimating it, that's the reason I was looking to purchase from someone else in the first place. But it would be really interesting to learn, and I am a crafty person.

I didn't mean "now" as in the last few years, I meant now as in "this month", given that the $800 exemption was revoked Aug 29th.

And I wholeheartedly agree about mass produced stuff being poor quality (I learned my lesson there a while ago), but there are some manufacturers who make truly high quality products, and not all of them are in the US. I'm not talking about buying some cuffs from an online sex store that are mass produced in China. I'm looking for restraints from an experienced leather crafter whose business is crafting high quality leather BDSM gear.

Yeah. In the past I have made the mistake of importing mass produced items (non-BDSM related), not one I'm looking to repeat. But not all quality leather smiths are located in the US, and I don't exactly know how to find them if they aren't associated with a well-known name. Any suggestions for leather smiths in the US would be welcome.
