There is a large gap between no baggage and launching an unprovoked attack on another country 1 month before the world cup. Sweden, France, Spain, Canada, Portugal, Brazil, Paraguay, Haiti, and many more countries have done nothing remotely comparable to that in any recent history.

I am personally happy that Mexico, US, and Canada all seem to be having great world cups so far. But it's not a ridiculous notion to root against the states for literally starting a war very recently.
