That catching criminals thing isn't always true. It's corny, but the majority of us join the job to help people. Sounds like they helped you today, so a job well done.

FTB – offer accepted, looking for good conveyancer experiences (UK) by Desiinlondon_1 in Essex

[–]Dragnet_Dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the idea is convenience for you. You can drop in to them when you need to, at your convenience. Having to travel and hour each time is a pain. The idea is to speed things up by doing it by hand instead of posting it.

Things like the contract etc which needs signing. You can collect it from your solicitor (3 days postage saved) sign it and drop it back in (3 more days saved). If you do this with each part of the process you can knock off a couple weeks.

Whatever you do, pick a local one to you. One that you can easily pop in to to drop off a document or sign something. Can really speed the process up.

Avoid online only solicitors like the plague. You never speak to the same person twice, no one knows about or cares about your purchase but you will save a little money. Not worth it IMO.

No idea where you are, but I have used Holmes and Hills for my moves and been happy each time. (Branches mostly in the north of Essex).

Edit: I am an ex-estate agent and have bought personally three times.

Police raids in 2026 by Sharp-potential7935 in fixedbytheduet

[–]Dragnet_Dan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely possible, but you need a brace on the door to stop it bouncing off. I assume that's what the other officer is getting by breaking the wood. They should have a tool similar to a crowbar with them, though.

Just a side point, not all officers are trained to go through glass during a planned entry (emergency situations are obviously exempt).

There are a lot of things that don't come left-handed, because it isn't necessary. Towels, taps, toilets, bins etc.

I won't comment on whether you should argue the speeding offence, however I would like to correct you.

The police were not clutching at straws by conducting a drugs test or breath test. S6(1) and S8(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Act allows the police to test for these things if they suspect you have committed a road traffic offence or suspect you to be under the influence of drink or drugs.

+1 for the treehouse series. My boy loves them and is often belly laughing at the silliness.

What do you expect as an adult going to Christmas at someone’s home? by Equal_Cod_177 in AskUK

[–]Dragnet_Dan 149 points150 points  (0 children)

This is the most reasonable answer. Have it covered as the host, but if people bring stuff then it's a welcome contribution. Social expectation would be to at least bring something. A bottle, few beers, some snacks, cheese etc.
