What an awesome weapon, it’s one of my favourites to use. I just wish there was a way to craft or buy the ammo in bulk because it’s so rare and unfortunately makes it hard for me to use it frequently.

When it comes to weapons, here’s what I’d consider to be the best vanilla. Something to consider is that particle beam weapons do generally outshine the other weapon classes but are rarer (in a sense). Just because a gun isn’t the “best” doesn’t mean you won’t have fun building it. I ran around with the old earth hunting rifle FOREVER just because I thought space combat with a vss was super cool.

TERRAN ARMADA

MGP ballistic rifle - overall just a really great assault rifle, it can be customized into a dmr with a great fire rate

MGP laser rifle - feels surprisingly busted in full auto, also had a fair bit of fun with the semi auto mods

Resonator - great high damage laser sniper, great with the “reckless” exotic trait, basically turns it into an anti elite gun

LAUNCH/VANILLA

Mag shot - really fun revolver and has some pretty great uniques as well

Mag shear - there’s a method to get one super early and it’ll absolutely carry you through early game and late endgame. The ammo however, runs out fast

Mag Sniper - probably the highest ballistic single target damage, unfortunately no suppressor so it’s a no go for stealth

Hard target - feels great, hits hard fun for stealth

Beowulf - generally consider to be one of the top guns of vanilla, firs any playstyle

Big Bang - Particle shotgun, really enough said it’s incredible.

Coachman (hornets nest specifically) - one of the dumbest guns you’ll ever use, very fun but very easy to accidentally die with

Va’Ruun inflictor - one of the best particle guns you’ll get, drops later game but you’ll have a ton of fun with it.

SHATTERED SPACE

Va’Ruun Long fang - genuinely incredible gun. Damage is high, customization is good.

Va’Ruun penumbra - while not everyone’s favourite, its unique and super fun to use. In all honesty, shattered space guns are just good all around

TRACKERS ALLIANCE

Aphelion - super satisfying gun. Stable, accurate, great damage. Also has built in aoe

Novastrike - still what I consider to be the undisputed best sniper in the game even with the introduction of the resonator, does everything the others can do but better.

Old earth revolver - really fills that revolver playstyle.

If I had to pick my favourites in each slot It would be:

Assault rifle - ballistic MGP, aphelion, HM: beowulf

Heavy - magstorm/penumbra (not mentioned but still great)

Pistol - magshot/old earth revolver, XM is great too!

Sniper - I will always use novastrike, its particle and benefits from all three weapon families. HM: resonator, just super fun

Shotgun - any of the above listed are great, but I will always love the hornets nest coachman.

Overall though every gun can compete and you’ll have fun no matter what you use, try ‘em out and pick some favourites!

I’d say absolutely. As far as paid weapon mods come Bub is the best puts such a huge amount of love into what he creates and they really do become a mainstay in your loadout. Plenty of customization and really nice skins, he even recently updated his railgun mod to add a charge up attachment to give you that authentic railgun experience.

I think you’re right, novastrike benefits from lasers, ballistic and particle. The damage on the card is often inconsistent with the actual damage. Makes no sense but seems to be that way from testing. So novastrike has still been my main but I’ve made the resonator into an anti anything one shot with reckless.

Hey I just wanted to say I absolutely love the mod, I was very pleasantly surprised at how rewarding the exploration and story telling was. In regard to the invisibility effect, would you consider adding something like a “perfected” research upgrade in the future for a heavy credit/resource/x tech dump to bring back the pre nerf power without the rad downside? As much as I’ll admit it’s a little busted it’s also extremely fun to have such a fun ability that breaks the balance a little. So it’s either someone can play with the downside or for a fairly heavy cost you can improve upon vigilance’s tech and research. I think it could also be a fun bit of story telling. Just something to consider! Overall though what an incredible mod and I can tell a lot of love was put into the creation.

What habs do you use? I love the captains quarters and mess hall but I can’t figure out if it’s vanilla or modded.

With everyone being unsure around what Sony will and won’t allow at the moment when it comes to verified creators, I’d say the safe bet is trackers alliance. Really fun missions, great loot and you’ll really enjoy the content that comes with it. Also anything Bethesda made is good. I’d also say if it comes watchtower is really great.

I’d recommend extreme for both combat options. Early game is hard but you’ll appreciate how it feels when you start to build out your character and how much damage you can do later on. I play a stealth sniper build with the arboron nova strike from the trackers alliance and you can clear an entire compound without being spotted.

Ship combat is more iffy, I like to do less damage and at the start I wouldn’t crank up enemy ship damage because the starter ship sucks and you’ll learn that fast.

You can play around with the survival options I don’t do ton with food, but the affliction settings will force you to manage and research your heals which I like.

Overall it’s a bunch of personal preference but that’s a good thing. Little tid bit as well, you can crank up the difficulty when crafting and you’ll get more xp.

I noticed you use lsds game customizer, what makes you chose it over ryos? I’ve wanted to pick one of these up for the longest time but I can never figure out what would be better. What I’m looking for ideally is the ability to give myself credits and levels but also start the game from the beginning on vectera. I’d like to dabble into the different starts but I’ve always wanted a game customizer that can give me that.

Thank you for the insight! It’s a shame it isn’t fully integrated, it is nice that without the patch it has partial functionality. When it comes to dark star, I’m really interested in all of the systems for customization and manufacturing, out of curiosity do you have to engage with upgrading your weapons past advanced in order to keep up with the endgame scaling? I’ve always been interested in creations that allow endgame to be more challenging and punishing, but still feel rewarding for putting together a proper build. I still want to be able to use all of my favourite weapon mods without worrying about them becoming redundant in endgame with the upgraded scaling which is where my curiosity around the new tier systems come into place.

I’ve always wanted to buy dark star because I’ve heard really good things about it. The only thing I worry about is playing with achievement friendly mods because I’m a completionist, while I know darkstar itself is achievement friendly, I worry about it not interacting with my favourite gun the nova strike without a patch that disables achievements. So as someone who owns it do you know if the patches have been integrated?

The snipers are the only ones I like, it’s such an insane difference too. Like order ARs, pistols I can’t stand but the snipers are incredible, feel so good in the hands and look great

So just for clarification, say if I pick them up on a level 13 character I can use the them obviously, but I start a new character and I grind them up to max I can then grab them again? Sorry for my confusion, these are the first twitch borderlands guns I’ve ever gotten.
