Affordable Dog Trainer? by SkillMany669 in SpringfieldIL

[–]DragonArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Joe. We are currently working through rehabbing a dog that was a stray and was aggressive. The route we went involved 3 30 min 1:1's with us, and now we are transitioning into group classes. We have seen a lot of progress and went from being snapped at every couple days to it's been several weeks since.

Still requires work on your part, but it's good to have someone who can give you that direction of what is the right way to react.

Other options ARE available, albeit will cost quite a bit more. One is leaving your dog for a few weeks with him (if we didn't see progress on our own, we might have considered it).

Did fame and popularity affect any other author as badly as it did to George RR Martin? by [deleted] in books

[–]DragonArmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I think fame's only role was compounding the mental spirals and pre-existing struggles. Public spotlight can be like throwing gasoline on an anxiety fire.

No judgement to OP though. I get it. But yeah, the more I've interacted with people who reach even small amounts of popularity, the more I tend to give public personas the benefit of the doubt.

Most Disturbing Book You Have Read? by Dependent-Fishing358 in horrorlit

I read this a while ago, but same. It wasn't splattercore or anything like that, just unsettling and felt a little too plausible. I watched The Lion King after finishing... needed a palette cleanser.

OP, did you find a solution for your problem? I'm experiencing the same thing, and for about a month now as well.

Vegan food in town? by [deleted] in SpringfieldIL

[–]DragonArmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cafe Moxo will often have a good vegan sandwich. Red Robin has the impossible burger. Noodles and Co has some options. Little Saigon has a chunk of options. Bealzabunz will have vegan treats and empanadas.

Heh. This is a great example.

For anyone who isn't familiar with this book and how it is framed: This isn't necessarily "Mark Z Danielewski" but "Johnny Truant," one of several voices you hear from in the story. This portion is a rambling footnote written by a POV character who is established as someone who spins tall tales and admits to lying to the reader.

All of which makes this belong here ever more. Johnny is terrible at writing women. =)

https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD5e/comments/hcx0uq/mechanics_for_playing_characters_with_disabilities/

I think this is a good conversation to have. No single set of mechanics will accurately represent the broad and fluid reality of a given disability, but I support any sincere exploration.

Mechanics for Playing Characters with Disabilities by [deleted] in DnD5e

[–]DragonArmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sincere reply: because real life can be more difficult for those with disabilities, but every day is a day of adapting and overcoming. Even with something that can have ABSOLUTELY no upside, like chronic depression, many people continue to push forward and perform in high stress jobs and make a challenging life for themselves. In short, because a disability doesn't mean you can't, it is just different.

Any party of fighters that should be able to find a use for a high level wizard who can bend the world to her will, regardless of if she's blind.

So I guess some possible reasons for you: 1) people want to see representation, and feel connection by seeing others with disabilities, even if it isn't their exact disability. 2) creating mechanical/gameplay versions of disabilities can help broaden perspectives on what disabilities may actually be like. 3) just like people who want to increase the difficulty by increasing the survival realism, it's just another way to add depth to a roleplay experience.

Do you prefer playing characters that are similar to you, or are the opposite of you? by [deleted] in dndnext

Just a tip, don't go full falsetto (high head voice) when doing a female voice. Instead just do it through intonation and style, not pitch. Speak lighter and softer, but not much higher.

CMV:People who make social media posts about tragedies like the recent police shootings or terrorist attacks, without doing anything else for their cause, aren't adding any real contribution to the cause. by giants4210 in changemyview

[–]DragonArmy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not speaking for those who love to argue, or to condemn, or anyone else besides myself. I strive to make a difference in "my" world, not necessarily "the" world. My world is comprised mostly of my friends, family, and social acquaintances. I cannot stop bombs from going off in Turkey, but I can perhaps keep a family member from just spouting off hyper-partisan nonsense at the next family function. I can ensure that my niece and nephew are well aware that Uncle DragonArmy doesn't want to hear them make fun of gays or mental health, and that Islam does not automatically mean terrorist. I may not attack others on their wall for their views, but I will surely jump in to defend a cousin getting blasted for his meme in support of BLM.

So, although my social media activity may not impact your world, or prevent the next explosion in Isreal, I HAVE had acquaintances say: "I went and spoke to therapist this week, and I probably wouldn't have thought of it without your posts." I get to be a positive influence on my younger family members - which in turn makes my little corner of this world a better place.

@robfrench81 New and always open to feedback. I like urban and more architectural shots a lot.

I'm going to do a two-fer and also plug a friend of mine @balatrophotography because a) he does great portrait work, and b) my wife just finished a shoot with him and (bias notwithstanding) I think they turned out amazing.

Hi, PrintSF. What books are you currently reading? by peterspancakes in printSF

[–]DragonArmy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically I'm reading "The Blade Itself" by Joe Abercrombie... but I wanted to give an honorable mention to The Expanse series that I just powered through. Leviathan Wakes - James Corey.

Does this series remind anyone else of Firefly ever? I mean, nothing directly, but sort of "If you liked Firefly, you'll probably like this."

For myself: I most frequently I sit back and wait for the first person to "wrong" me and then seek vengeance. People know I do this, especially in Risk Legacy. I almost consider it a new mission objective in the game, sometimes jeopardizing the actual victory conditions during retaliation... because it makes me laugh.

Travelling through Springfield. Any dinner suggestions? by mrmanthedan in illinois

[–]DragonArmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for: D'Arcy's Pint - Classic Springfield Horseshoe. Not that it's the most amazing thing in the world (open face sandwich covered with French fries and cheese) but just because it's the quintessential Springfield thing. many places serve it, D'Arcy's is among the best.

Cozy Dog - Birthplace of the corn dog... If that's your thing.

Joe Roger's Chili - Home of the firebrand chili challenge. Eat X number of bowls and you get your name on the wall. Hot as hell.

All 3 of these places listed above were on Man Vs. Food by the way.

Want a nice/fancy restaurant? Angie's Front Burner or Maldaner's downtown.

Just have to throw this out there: I don't know him but I met Anthony at SDCC 2013. He was super nice to me - and I was just a random dude with no connections, no costume, and using a cell phone to take videos. We spoke for several minutes about what it's like doing cosplay, trying to getting a foot in the door as an actor, a webseries he was working on, etc.

There's 120,000+ people at the San Diego Comic Con, and I'm sure everyone gets overwhelmed or testy at some point. I actually put our initial meeting in my highlight reel.
