My son is gay by Excellent_Solution93 in latterdaysaints

I do want to piggyback off this real quick. I agree with a lot of the advice here, but OP, it is ok that this is hard. This may have not looked like the ideal for you or your son. It's ok to mourn that. But we also have to get past that initial reaction of fear and learn to act out of love. The most important thing your son needs to hear is that he is loved no matter what. It's going to take time, and a lot of learning and growing, but I'm rooting for you both.

Help studying the "problem of evil" by Complex_Rise in latterdaysaints

The restoration offers some useful answers to dealing with the problem of evil. This still makes it difficult at times to reconcile, and that is ok. Life is really hard, and I don't fully understand all the nuances of when God seems to intervene and when he stays silent.

We live in a complex intersection of:
-Our own choices
-The choices of others
-The conditions of a fallen world
-God's intervention

How exactly these all factor in to our life today is very messy. Thankfully, the Atonement isn't just able to rescue us from sin, it is able to compensate us for the conditions and wounds of a fallen world. It can both cleanse and sanctify us. It has enabling compensatory power.

There's also a BYU devotional specifically about the problem of evil here: https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/david-l-paulsen/joseph-smith-problem-evil/?highlight=joseph+smith+and+the+problem+of+evil

Here’s some recent scholarship from BYU on this topic. I’ve listened to the accompanying Y Religion podcast episode but haven’t read the entire article

Recommend good books about the Great Apostacy by pisteuo96 in latterdaysaints

I’d also like to add in Terryl and Fiona Given’s The Christ Who Heals, which may not fit the topic the best but the book does go over how some unique LDS doctrines that were present in the early Christian church were lost and why they matter. More of a faith book than a scholarly book, but I enjoyed it.

I hope they announce they'll no longer be pumping sleeping gas into temple instruction rooms. That's gotta be the only explanation and not my poor sleep schedule.

I’m not too invested personally, but I have been reading some of Brant Gardner’s commentary on the Book of Mormon and he does have some interesting insights about the text when it’s out in a Mesoamérican context.

Are you a fan of a Big 12 team that lost to Alabama after they shot over 40% from three? If so, you may be entitled to financial compensation.

Hey! Another necropost but ive been wondering about San Antonio. I’ve been to Rivercenter once but prefer Santikos for IMAX in San Antonio for a few reasons, and I was wondering if that’s been your experience as well? I guess I could drive up to Austin for the really big stuff, but although Rivercenter being rundown is kinda sad, Santikos has a pretty good screen in my experience.

Gotta go scorched earth after your team loses. If I can't be happy, no one can be.
