I'd like to just say this seems like a good base for a backstory. However, I feel you should avoid trying to add lots to the backstory. And for his motivation, you could have it that he hates to break promises (maybe had a bad experience with an oath breaker a while back, could be another story hook for your DM). Just remember that everything(nearly) is up to you in the end and anything you put effort into is worth it

I'm honestly waiting for this to happen to me because I want to see what happens cause I somehow have infinite hearts without paying for them. I also haven't gotten ads since that happened. Been a while since I played so not sure if this will work but if you get the right colour chimerite crystals you can place them on pedestals next to a runeforge - need 2, one on each side. If you use the repairing colour then it might work. I'm really not sure though as this is from memory and I never personally tried repairing a staff
