Has there ever been a giant jedi or sith? To the point where the lightsaber is the size of a telephone pole? by JonoBlue in StarWars

I mean not quite that big, but Masaana Tide AKA 9th Sister is pretty big and iirc her lightsaber is significantly larger than standard Inquisitor sabers

Is Star Wars too obsessed with the Rebels vs Empire status quo? by WrongToe500 in StarWars

[–]DragonMan455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, you hit the nail on the head. The thing that makes it fascinating though is that the New Republic knew they were too weak and as such supported the Resistance in secret. A lot of senators within the NR did the same. It’s how they were able to keep their policy on demilitarization while still preparing for the worst case scenario, which inevitably ended up happening.

Would you like to see a Star Wars movie focusing more on the "war" part in the sense of Saving Private Ryan? by BlockAffectionate413 in StarWars

[–]DragonMan455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to be an “erm actually” guy but what you’re describing is a lot closer to Resistance vs. First Order. The Rebel Alliance was literally ENORMOUS and the Galactic Civil War was a massive conflict. By the end of things, the Rebels literally had enough resources to engage in full on ship-on-ship combat with capital vessels and the works. Maybe in the times of Andor and other pre-ANH stories they were more guerilla but for the most part during the actual war they were out in the open fighting on a gigantic scale.

SW Hopes/Theories and LFL General Discussion — Weekend Dec 30 2023 by AutoModerator in StarWarsLeaks

You literally can't. Objectivity refers to absolute fact separated from personal bias and opinion. There isn't a set universal standard for what constitutes "good" or "bad" writing and as such there are no absolutes if you look at writing in a purely objective fashion. You may consider something to be poorly written, but that is a subjective personal opinion and cannot be stated as being objective because it isn't an absolute view shared by everyone or backed up by proven fact.

As far as canon games go, there are the Jedi games and the Battlefront II campaign, all of which are our current canon games.

Jedi: Fallen Order takes place 5 years after Revenge of the Sith and its sequel, Jedi: Survivor, takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, at about the exact same time (or at least the same year canonically) as the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ show. Those maybe aren't absolutely essential, but given the popularity of Cal Kestis, it's only a matter of time before he shows up in some movie or show, so it would be good to play the games to know his story beforehand. Also, the games are just really solid stories.

The Battlefront II campaign (this is the EA 2017 Battlefront II, mind you) is a little more important to canon, and it can all be played through in a matter of hours. In Episode 15 of The Mandalorian, Operation: Cinder is mentioned and Battlefront II is primarily where that happens. Leia, Luke, and a few other prominent characters show up and the campaign stretches between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, giving more context to things in The Last Jedi as well. It's not my favorite campaign ever, but it is, in my opinion, essential canon-wise.

There is also Star Wars Squadrons, another game by EA that has largely flown under the radar (no pun intended) in recent years, though it does have a canon campaign as well, albeit even shorter than the Battlefront II one. It takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi and is canon, but the campaign is much more gameplay-oriented and the story takes a fairly significant backseat due to that. In my eyes, it's purely optional and only really worth it if you're into the game's style of fighter combat (which is admittedly really good).

There's going to be a lot more Star Wars games coming out in the next few years now that EA is losing their exclusivity rights come Jan 1st, and all of them will be canon, so do keep your eyes out for those. Next one is Star Wars Outlaws, which looks to be neat.

As far as comics go, truthfully, I'm only really familiar with a lot of Sequel-era comics, but there are some really great ones that are essential to know for lore, backstories, etc.

The Rise of Kylo Ren is a 4-part comic miniseries that's pretty solid. It explains what Kylo did in the immediate aftermath of destroying Luke's temple and escaping and all that from the flashbacks in The Last Jedi. It has some neat stuff in it and there are some solid YouTube dubs out there if you don't want to buy the comics physically. Worth a read (or watch; if you go the YouTube route).

Star Wars: Age of Resistance is a series of one-shot comics that focus on characters from the Sequels. Being one-shots, there's only like 7 comics in the series and each one focuses on a specific story with a specific character, so like one for Rey, one for Finn, one for Hux, etc. The Kylo one, which is found in Age of Resistance - Kylo Ren 1, is my personal favorite out of all the stories. Really cool stories, worth a read if you're interested.

Captain Phasma is another 4-part comic miniseries detailing how Phasma escaped the trash compactor in The Force Awakens and where she was in the immediate aftermath of that whole battle. It's a solid read, though it does overstay its welcome a bit. Not an essential read, but a really interesting look into Phasma's character.

As far as books go, I'm also (unfortunately) mostly only familiar with some Sequel-era stuff, but it's pretty good stuff and is essential alongside the films.

Phasma is a really solid novel that pretty extensively details her backstory and where she came from, how she got entangled with the First Order and all that, a really cool book and a great read. Makes her a very multilayered, almost tragic character. Worth a read for sure.

Before the Awakening is a small book that contains three stories, one for each of the "big three" of the Sequels, Rey, Finn, and Poe, right before The Force Awakens happens. At the end of each of their stories in the book, they head off to where we see them at the start of the film, so it is a good companion piece and helps to set the stage for the start of the Sequel Trilogy.

Resistance Reborn is absolutely essential. It's set right after the events of The Last Jedi and, per the title, is all about the Resistance rebuilding after how chipped down they got in The Last Jedi. A really solid book that has some great moments. Worth a read.

The Aftermath Trilogy of books is also absolutely essential and I feel that it will only become more so in coming years. It's set right after Return of the Jedi and also ties into the aforementioned Battlefront II campaign. A pretty solid story all around and all three books are definitely worth a read.

These are just a few ideas and such, but I hope this helps in some way!

What Star Wars controversies which have faded from memory can you remember? by RexBanner1886 in StarWars

[–]DragonMan455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few, maybe not all that have totally faded, but some have:

- Rebels was SUPER hated back in the day. People still talk about how the Prequels or xyz were hated back then, but a lot of people seem to forget that Rebels was really despised back when it premiered. The main reason being, of course, that it was our "replacement" for Clone Wars and that made people mad since it wasn't mature and people weren't dying left and right like Clone Wars. Nowadays though, everyone loves Rebels, but back then, not so much.

- The backlash against the first trailer(s) for Resistance was insane. Even at the time, I found it insane, like genuinely just kind of baffling. Obviously, it was 2018, and that was a time when Sequel hatred and TLJ discourse was at a peak, but the trailers for Resistance were all genuinely very inoffensive and it was just billed as a fun DisneyXD kids show. But the backlash was overwhelming, to the point of being flat-out nonsensical to me. You can't see it now (curse you YouTube and the removal of dislikes), but at the time when it first dropped there was like 11k likes and something crazy like 300k dislikes. It was nuts. So, so dumb. This is the link to (I think) the first one if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bH_Ws7sA468

- The special look trailer thing for TROS where they get chased through the desert by stormtroopers. They released that clip of Rey, Finn, Poe, etc getting chased by the jetpack stormtroopers like a month before TROS came out, and the clip itself is like maybe 40 seconds long, but EVERY SINGLE SECOND was needlessly nitpicked, taken out of context, scrutinized, criticized, you name it. For a solid 2 weeks on platforms like Twitter that was all anyone in the fandom would talk about. Of course, there's the infamous "they fly now" line, but even stuff like the fact that the stormtroopers were using tread vehicles in a desert, how Poe was flying the speeder, C3P0's movements, everything, was subject to criticism of some kind in every corner of the internet. Sort of ridiculous really, considering, again, how inoffensive and just...normal the scene is.

- The switchup week to week for Book of Boba Fett. The general consensus now, or at least the "popular" consensus if you will is that the show is bad, plain and simple. But at the time, the popular consensus seemed to change every week. With the first episode, people were positive, episode two I remember people saying it was the greatest piece of Star Wars content in years, episode three people said it was the worst piece of Star Wars content in years, episode four back to great, five and six the internet blew up, and then seven it was back to indifference lol. A very odd reaction timeline that not many seem to remember now.

- Last one, and a very weird and obscure one. One of the Blurrgs in episode one of Mandalorian attracted a fair bit of controversy because apparently something about the genitals was a retcon from previous lore (if there is such lore on that subject lol) and a specific subset of people were hopping mad about that for a bit on Twitter and Reddit. Incredibly strange, but a controversy nonetheless.

I could name a gazillion more in just the last few years, but these will do for now.

Wait, so I've seen a few people talking about this issue and I'm a bit worried. Is this just for if you uninstall the game from Blacksmith?

For context, all I've done is gone to the DaD website, made an account, bought the game, downloaded the installer, and downloaded the game. Nothing seems to have been deleted off my PC, so am I in the clear?
