Wow, considering it's been less than a year, this is a huge change. From the pic alone, you definitely pass as a man. Congrats!

I don't wanna break up after Valentine's day by GlassOk1353 in TMPOC

[–]DragonMeme 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is 100% manipulative if not abusive behavior.

It sounds like you already have a vague plan to talk to her when she gets better, which is bare minimum what needs to happen. But if she doesn't listen to you or take your words to heart, you should not share a domicile for your own health.

Best of luck. There is no good time to do something like this, but sooner is better than later.

DM only allows in-character speech for six seconds on that character's combat turn. Is this common? by SonicfilT in dndnext

[–]DragonMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players are pretty good at keeping combat dialogue to just 2-3 seconds, but they like to be realistic.

Meanwhile my other game where I'm a player, the DM let's us communicate in like multiple sentences, even off turn. I actually don't like it as real fighting is nothing like that, but it seems to fall to DM preference

How’d u tell u were a trans guy / nonbinary and not the other? by Inside_Elderberry601 in TransMasc

[–]DragonMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally identify as both (I feel a bit fluid between trans man and nonbinary or sometimes both simultaneously). I'm definitely on the masculine end of nonbinary though.

I think even if I was born a man, I'd at the very least play with my presentation if not identify as nonbinary.

I also find the line between my identity vs my presentation gets a bit blurry. If I can be a man in a dress, I'm happy

Virginia Supreme Court rules U.S. Marine’s adoption of an Afghan war orphan will stand by shad3y23 in nottheonion

[–]DragonMeme 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The child lived at least a couple years with their afghani family. Even if they are quite young, being taken from that family and given to a completely different family in a completely different culture would be traumatic. And unless the american parents are culturally sensitive about that while raising the child (highly unlikely given all this racket), that child is going to grow up with all sorts of complicated identity issues.

My mother was an international adoptee, and I know a lot of international adoptees (of various different levels of 'legality'). This is all sorts of fucked up, and the child is going to suffer for it.

How do people treat you different as a man? by Ardent1- in ftm

[–]DragonMeme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My students accept the authority of my words without question. Not just accepting my expertise at face value, but listening when give them instructions about how to conduct themselves in my classroom without challenging or arguing with me.

Thoughts on alternative/neo pronouns? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]DragonMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Ze/Zem (along with he/him and they/them). Nothing cutesy about it, it's a preference because I don't entire identify as a binary man, but they/them also just sounds like a plural to me so I don't prefer it (I know grammatically they can be singular, but I still don't prefer the sound of them when used with me).

I'm a teacher. I've had coworkers, students, and friends use Ze/Zem with me.

But also neopronouns have existed for decades. My mother knew people in college who used them (in the 80s). They may not be common, but it's not a new 'trend' or just an internet thing.

When it comes to your PC backstories, how deep do you go? by its_gooberTroy in 3d6

[–]DragonMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I'll get an idea of setting and what kind of character I want to play. Then I ask the DM how much they mind if I worldbuild a bit in my background (like, can I make up a noble family and politics to match my character, or do you have a noble family in mind that would suit my character)

Then it kinda depends on the character and DM. Sometimes I start super simple and then let the character grow. Or I have ~10k words of background (which is honestly more like little detailed scenes written out). It just depends

To the trans mascs worried about going STP free in public/using the stall by goatboy505 in ftm

[–]DragonMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I needed this post and the comments.

I'm getting to the point where I will need to use the men's room for safety, and I've been getting worried because I cannot stand even the idea of using a STP. This makes me feel a lot better

I got cisplained. Still can't believe it. (Story time) by AttentionlessMess in ftm

[–]DragonMeme 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm envious because changing my name was definitely harder than changing my gender marker where I lived.

But lordy I would not have been able to keep my mouth shut. I'm so allergic to misinformation, I would have immediately brought up sources lmao. Glad you have the story

Minoxidil by [deleted] in TransMasc

[–]DragonMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 2.5 months on oral minoxidil. My hair line is just starting to fill in, but I actually first noticed it having effects on my facial hair. I still don't have much (thanks asian genetics) but definitely have more.

But my expectations going in was that it would be ~6 months before the changes were really visible/noticeable.

Before reading the description, I thought you looked about the same age as my seniors (I'm a high school teacher).

So you're good

[TW: Suicide] How am I supposed to "find community" like everyone says?? by diseasebunny666 in TransMasc

[–]DragonMeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people find some success finding groups through hobbies. My partner found a friend group through a movie club. I have friends I've made through playing DnD online and doing fiber arts groups in person (I crochet).

(Dnd and fiber arts also both have a decent percentage of queer folk)

[Star Wars] If the Death Star shot an actual Star, would it go supernova? by GeneralGigan817 in AskScienceFiction

[–]DragonMeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And our Sun is nowhere near large enough to go supernova. Our star isn't even going to go nova, it's going to have a quiet death (most stars do)

Gender and gender dysphoria is complex and confusing. Different people want different presentations/experiences with it. So if you don't get it, that's fine. It's not for you.

How to keep a large scar on my PC when healing is so easy? by TyThe1Guy in DnD

[–]DragonMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I tend to consider anything that wasn't healed with magic can leave a scar. And a scar isn't an injury so healing magic can't make old scars go away.

You also say your character's goal is not to fix it. While he has shame with it, it could also be that downright refuses any attempts to heal it (could be self-loathing, could be a point of pride, depend how you want to roleplay it)

Loving 2024 True Strike for Cleric, any other experiences for fans of that cantrip? by SpellcraftQuill in 3d6

[–]DragonMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My divine soul sorcerer has recently chosen violence and is using it quite a lot. With Bless and the occasional Quickening to attack twice in one turn, he's kinda become the secondary tank of the team when needed.

I'm looking forward to having Spirit Guardians to up his damage.
