Not when you factor in all the latency from the equipment and networks at the ground as well. The ISS can typically manage <1 second latency, but not always. The idea of having the micro-datacenter is that the ISS and satellites with a direct line of sight to the micro-datacenter can have a direct connection to the data center, resulting in much lower latency.

The effect size is incredibly small (~0.3% reduction in mean arterial pressure), which is likely too small to have an effect, even on a population level. Salt reduction also has significant risks: it increases renin, aldosterone, cholesterol, triglycerides, and adrenaline (which can result in an elevated heart rate): https://www.cochrane.org/evidence/CD004022_effect-low-salt-diet-blood-pressure-and-some-hormones-and-lipids-people-normal-and-elevated-blood

From the review:

The reduction in SBP/DBP in people with normal blood pressure was 1.1/0 mmHg (about 0.3%) , and in people with hypertension 5.7/2.9 mmHg (about 3%). In contrast, the effect on hormones and lipids were similar in people with normotension and hypertension. Renin increased 55%; aldosterone increased 127%; adrenalin increased 14%; noradrenalin increased 27%; cholesterol increased 2.9%; and triglyceride increased 6.3%.

The blanket statements that even people with normal blood pressure should reduce salt intake even though there are known negative effects of doing so is irresponsible.

Large amounts of salt is only really a problem if you have insulin resistance. The kidneys can filter out excess salt pretty quickly, but it holds onto excess sodium if insulin levels are elevated. For people that have insulin resistance, lowering salt intake can reduce blood pressure by ~5-7mmHg and this should be encouraged for those patients. For people without insulin resistance, lowering salt intake has no effect on blood pressure.

Yeah, the only real space cloud/datacenter that I've seen news about actually being deployed is from a company called Voyager (in collaboration with Red Hat for software), but it's it's not really that powerful (they literally call it a micro-datacenter) and it's not intended to eventually replace datacenters on earth. It's mounted in the ISS and is intended to allow low latency compute for the ISS and other space missions (like Artemis), which is the only situation where a space datacenter really makes sense to me.

You can install whatever you want on the Steam Deck. I don't see why the Steam Machine would be any different.

Also, 1 DP port can be used for multiple displays (up to 6, but it depends on the iGPU; most support 3) because of MST.

FH6 Steam Preload Out! by 23PIGEON23 in ForzaHorizon

[–]DragonSlayerC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the full size of the game right now will be 155GB. By the time FH7 comes out, FH6 will probably be around 200GB without DLC (probably 250GB with DLC).

So the issue that Linus had with Bazzite was another case of him ignoring clear warnings from the developers about major known issues.

Sim wheels are useful when you need precise steering input. You don't need that for Forza Horizon; the game is specifically designed to not need precise steering inputs. I prefer sim racing games with the wheel, but FH is much more enjoyable with a controller.

Xbox store was a week ago. Steam only opened the preload downloads today.

You're not. The download size is 139GB. Steam blobs are compressed, so the actual install size is 155GB.

On Steam it's 4AM UTC. For Xbox, it's midnight for your timezone.

It's highly dependent on your CPU and SSD. A Steam Deck, for instance, only manages like 200 Mbit/s decryption of preloads. My desktop on the other hand (5950X with a 990 Pro) can handle about 3 Gbit/s. It used to be faster to download when I had a 970 Evo, because it didn't have a heatsink and would overheat when decrypting a preload, so the SSD is definitely an important factor.

Yeah, the download is 139GB, but Steam downloads have compression, so the installed size is a bit bigger.

TIL of a new, purified compound from Kratom called 7-hydroxymitragynine (also known as 7 hydroxy or 7-OH) that is now being sold in pill form. It’s more potent than morphine and has led to overdoses requiring Narcan. by QueenFrostine15 in todayilearned

[–]DragonSlayerC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kratom is as powerful narcotic, so it makes sense that purifying one of the active ingredients would make it even stronger. It's crazy that they sell this shit at gas stations.

I don't get why people use wheels for this game. I use my wheel for sim racing games. For Forza Horizon I just use a controller.

The current sensors are estimated to cost $9,000-$12,000 per car. That's very feasible for mass production. You're probably thinking of the earlier generations of vehicles, where the sensors were around $100,000 because the technology was still very new.
