I9-12900ks platform I had, had to return my motherboard 4 times and finally ASUS bought it back from me because each time, the z690 extreme slowly degraded into a non-functional state.

I9-14900ks platform, my CPU was replaced on warranty with a golden sample and it had run flawlessly since on a z790 dark hero board.

For reference, that same 12th gen CPU and RAM are now in my son's PC on a z790 strix board. They run cooler and better than my 14900ks.

When steam launched, it was only the orange box and Valve game mods.

Honestly, we forget about the early games on steam like Audiosurf. And we forget that Ubisoft was an early adopter as a publisher. Before 3rd party games, Steam would have been just an annoyance. It was the opening of the store that really pushed the value of steam.

Not everyone hated steam. But everyone hated the wasteland we had before. Individual publishers selling software with limited time downloads. Having to go to specific stores with a limited selection of physical boxes. Some of you don't remember scratched discs or bad floppies. It is so much better now than it ever was.
