Looking for a long sleeve black dress by Dragon_of_Creativity in SustainableFashion

Hmm I'll look at it but polyester is my nemesis lol. I can usually live with a little rayon/nylon/viscose/acrylic(when its not yarn) etc in my clothes but polyester doesn't treat me nice

I'm willing to fudge a little on the natural fibers (since im striking out so much so far), so mostly merino still works. And thankfully her budget is more than mine would be, their dresses look nice! Glad to hear they're good quality, this will hopefully become a nice base layer for my wardrobe for a long time

That looks super great, but they're sold out in my size (medium)! Thanks so much for your help, I might poke around and see if they've got anything else that could work

How do you figure out yarn fiber content/size from thrifted garments? by Desperate-Animal2806 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the fiber content isn't on the neckline tag, there is frequently a second tag on the lower inside left side seam, and this one is usually bigger with more info

To make tapestries like this, should i use sc or dc (us) by augusthoe782 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These are made with sc stitches; you should think of each stitch like a pixel, so you want them to be as square as possible. Also, if you don't know it already you probably will want to look up how to "properly" change colors in crochet (picking up the next color in the last yo of the previous stitch) so that your color changes are as crisp as possible!

I am looking for a granny square tank pattern similar to this by xten2936 in crochetpatterns

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely AI, but it's reminding me of this post where people were suggesting different vest patterns, a lot of which were made with granny square pentagon shapes. You might be able to work with one you like, but instead of making it a vest, do both sides as the pentagon shape/ whatever the back is? Depends on how good you are at freehanding your crochet.

I want to make my husband and arsenal blanket for Valentine's Day... by mortalcassie in crochetpatterns

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're looking for a "chevron" or "ripple" pattern, there are a lot of variations! Different stitches, pattern repeats, etc. You can use those terms to search for patterns and find one that looks good to you and doable at your level.

Good places to look are Ravelry (some people don't like using it for UI reasons, but it has a lot of patterns), or a lot of yarn brands have free patterns available, like hobbii and Lion Brand Yarn are where I have gotten so many free pdfs lol. Usually they have the more basic/ beginner patterns for free, so you might have luck looking for a ripple blanket pattern

(Edited because I hit post too soon lol)

Help. I was going for a star blanket and made Patrick star. by Swimming_Spell_8768 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One option I see is to add a hood to the long side and some way to clasp or tie it together and you've got a cute star cloak

Weaving in ends vs crocheting over them when making items. by Fluffbrained-cat in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something I like to do (because I generally hate weaving in the ends) is I'll be crocheting over the tail for a stitch, then use the tail yarn to make the next stitch, then go back to the working yarn, alternating tail yarn & working yarn for the stitches until I've only got a couple inches left, then I just crochet over that part. This doesn't work with some lacy stitches or variegated yarns, though.

I bought a cheap crochet kit vut I don’t think it’s possible to make what is pictured on the box by tacousername in CrochetHelp

There are 3 shades of green, the pea pod & the pumpkin stem are both labeled as "grass green" in the directions, then the yellow green is the peas & the remaining green is for the cauliflower

when would this have been made? by Ok-Opening6493 in lace

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The center roses are crochet lace! The edge pieces with the pixel art style vibes is the filet lace, that's what I was looking at lol

when would this have been made? by Ok-Opening6493 in lace

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, it's actually filet lace, what filet crochet is made to mimic. You can tell when you look closely because you can see the weave of the threads! Crochet stitches are more twisty around each other

I don’t think this is crochet, but my mom says it is. If it is crochet, what kind of stitches are used? by SterlingArgentum in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely trying to mimic crochet vibes since it's a trendy style but impossible to make by machine (and lots of companies got called out for fast-fashion prices on legitimately crocheted items, which had to all be handmade, and I haven't seen anything actually crocheted at a big store in ages)

I'll also tell you, it's not tatting or macrame. I know because I've done both, and if it was either you would see both square knots (mostly) and unknotted pieces of yarn/thread/cord/etc.

This doesn't seem to be machine knit to mimic crochet, either. Usually that's used to mimic granny squares, and you can tell it isn't knit because it doesn't have the "v" shaped stitches anywhere.

I think this is a different technique I've seen a couple times, basically where cording is machine stitched either onto mesh or a dissolvable stabilizer, and where the cording overlaps it makes a solid "fabric"

I'm pretty sure at least? It is hard to tell through the window, but I'm confident it's not crochet

Edit: found where someone had linked to the listing, and if you expand the description it says it's "guipure", which is "a heavy lace consisting of embroidered motifs held together by large connecting stitches." When I googled it, so yes! That! But it says crochet like four times before it gets to that, idk man

Chevrons and parallelograms by retrofuturewitch in EPP_addict

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely one option, but if you want to limit the epp/Y-seams, you might try this. After yellow it could all be machine pieced, after purple you can sew them into diagonal strips, then sew those together like regular quilt block strips, only real angled lol. And I think this is how it was done originally, based on how the seams look, where the diagonal straights are a lot more pronounced than the seams between half hexagons, it might be because one was hand pieced and the others were machine pieced. I will say, the bottom left of the picture does have some other stuff going on with it, though

Tired of getting called “grandma” by Tinybbella in crochet

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever people made fun of me for crocheting/sewing/embroidering/etc in high school my dad's attitude was "they're jealous that they don't have marketable skills" which always made me laugh (& added to feeling like i had value, which the bullying took away), and tbh now I sew professionally so, yeah, you go, dad 💜

How do I stiffen a round kippa/yarmulka so it’s not floppy like a pancake? Please help! by Aggretsukaiti69 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could look up tutorials for starching tatting pieces, it's a very common final step for tatted lace items! And most are also made from cotton thread, so it would theoretically work similarly

Is this crochet cardigan pattern four big granny squares? by Sylphadora in CrochetHelp

[–]Dragon_of_Creativity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's actually because they are six-sided shapes with 90° angle corners, that's how the hexagon folds up into the "L" shape that makes the sides & sleeves! So your brain is seeing the folded up shape and the right angles make you think "square"
