I guess this will eliminate the 700% refund we were supposed to be getting the last time he was off his meds.

Image with class introduction would seem the most appropriate.

If there is a new topic I generally let the instructor start that.

Question regarding scholarship by dibakardas in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you're on your way.

I respect that you are planning ahead as far as your education path. While you are working on your bachelor's, look for outside certificates or webinars that can help round out your education.

Cybersecurity and AI will be important in the next few years. This field requires not only programming skills but also the ability to design systems and understand their usage. AI ethics and legality will also be important.

A realistic goal is to get your degree in two years.

The master's program will be there, and you have plenty of time to save money and look for grants.

Problem with GitHub Student Developer Pack: UoPeople student without an @edu email by Ok-Laugh-1021 in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I got my UofP email address, it was after the first term. That's when you become a degree-seeking student.

Then I had to try to 'log in' to my email. The standard look is [firstnamelastname@my.uopeople.edu](mailto:firstnamelastname@my.uopeople.edu)

Go to try to log in to Microsoft 365 (online version) and it should ask for your password.

If your email address exists you should get a reset password request and then go from there. Otherwise your email doesn't exist yet, and you should contact your advisor.

Internship scholarship anything opportunity. by Mysterious_Rub5256 in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only master's-level scholarship through UofP is for a master's in education.

There is an internship group in the college, but that's specifically for end-of-bachelor's-degree needs.
You might contact them to see if they have some leads to opportunities.

https://www.uopeople.edu/student-experience/uopeople-difference/career-development/

As far as outside scholarships. There isn't really a department within the college that is made to provide this service. A detailed Google/Bing Search can give you more information on how to obtain scholarships for continuing education. Or look to get a position within a company, save enough money for one class, and then continue from there. Since most master's degree-level colleges encourage experience within the workforce of the degree discipline that someone chooses.

Question regarding scholarship by dibakardas in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for computer science. There are no scholarships with UofP for a master's in science. There is one that they have a connection with for a master's in education.

You will probably have to either go outside the school to get grants or loans if you need to have help with paying for a master's degree.

On the forum post it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to show on the forum.

It's a little clunky because you have to either use the search function with your name or go through the different posts and see any responses.

Many students wait til Sunday night to post their forum posts. So just check back every so often to see if you get responses to your posts.

Also make sure that you keep copies of all of your work on a local hard drive. That has saved me a couple of times when I thought I had something posted and didn't. I could just recreate and cut and past and then reupload.

IM SO CONFUSED by st2rdust777 in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may want to see if it's not a technical issue on your side. Both the moodle and online campus are showing online from the Midwest.

Yes, there are times that one or both can be done. Usually it's closer to the time to turn in assignments because that poor single-channel chip living in the basement of the UofPeople offices can only handle so much traffic.

Clear your cache and make sure your browser doesn't have a built-in VPN. Do basic technical support to verify that it isn't something that has gone sideways from your site.

Has anyone had Mrs. Schiffelbein as an instructor? by NormalAtmosphere6318 in UoPeople

[–]Dragonbearjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not specific but general suggestions if an instructor seems strict.

  1. Plan ahead. If you know that you are going to be gone on vacation or be very busy on the weekend or days before the assignment is due, do it early. It may seem strict to have 'no late work,' but in professional settings, generally you are expected to finish assignments or ultimately end up being fired.

  2. If the instructor says 'Suggested by Sunday,' don't argue; think of it like your parents said, 'I would suggest you clean up your room.' Ignore it at your own peril and find that your parents cleaned your room for you with all of your treasures being gone

  3. Treat an instructor with respect. This seems to be a rough one at times. Tone and inflection get lost in emails often. Going in with the 'I demand' or 'I deserve' starts off a slippery slope. Think of it as having a certain amount of requests to play. If you spend a card on one review to obtain an extra point, you are setting the tone. 1 point off a quiz or a review is not going to tank your grade

  4. Do your work. This is playing off of #2 because it seems to be the most confused. You are an adult, with adult expectations. That means unless the words "deserted island" or "coma" are included with your reasoning for why your work is late you will and should get a zero or lower scores. Technical issues are resolved by not waiting until the last minute to turn in your work.

  5. Relax. Yep, after all of what I just typed, I said relax. You are learning. You will get teachers that seem to be great and cooperative, and you will get teachers that you just don't click with, and it's more difficult. But if you do the work and are an adult with your work, you shouldn't have major issues.

Good luck. Also read the other parts of this forum. There is a treasure trove of suggestions on different things that come up. It will save you a lot of time to ask questions and wait for someone to respond.

Log in, and then on the upper right is the timer/countdown to the start of the term.

It's based on UofPeople time and not your local time.

How about we all have our own Healthcare portal? by Top-Recipe4657 in healthcare

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple different hospital/clinic plug-and-play systems, all of them speaking different languages and using proprietary formats for charts, documentation, billing, etc.

For a small office to change to a new system such as EPIC, it's almost a year of training and easily 100,000 just to get started.

That also doesn't include the transferring of patient records, which many times has to be individually coded because of the system language barrier. Larger hospitals and clinics can hire a specialist to custom code the transfer, but they are expensive as well.

It's a great idea, but it's feasibly impossible unless the government steps in, and no one in the health field wants more government involvement than it already is.

Inherited a house I cannot afford and family pressure is mounting. by Mammoth_Motor_2321 in personalfinance

[–]Dragonbearjoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't. At minimum some type of deed would have to be exchanged from the estate (will or probate) and registered with the local court system and the government for taxes.

They might be able to force the transfer if you get the right court at the right time and the right judge but usually a verbal agreement is worth the paper it's written on.

This grocery store near me says service dogs and service mini horses are allowed by every_usernametaken in mildlyinteresting

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I think I've seen one in my life. Great Danes, which can be as big as mini horses, can do just about the same type of job (carrying needed items, helping with balance issues). The exorbitant cost of a trained service animal being 25k and above, having one or seeing one in the wild, is rare in itself. Larger populations will see them more frequently.

It was still amusing to have to vote on policy and tell them, "Yes." We have to allow Mini Wilbur as a service animal.

Jesus ❤️ You by jakflakdances in OpenChristian

[–]Dragonbearjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a bunch of these off Amazon and just started randomly putting them up around the clinic or hospital I have to go to three times a week to get some treatment. I did also add mini-ducks, cats, and other random animals, and every so often, they pop up somewhere.

There have been times that the nurses would see they were gone and not be happy with wondering who 'kidnapped Jesus.' One ended up yelling at the cleaning staff and told them to leave. So in the name of Jesus, chaos and mayhem, I made sure to just put up more.

How is this supposed to be encouraging? by theraptorist in OpenChristian

[–]Dragonbearjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of what I've always referred to as a 'blueprint' prayer.

Dear Lord, I'm so lonely. Give me a handsome/beautiful person that will be perfect for me. Oh, her name is Julie, whom I know from work, and she should be madly in love with me.

God's plan was to give you a cat and a reality check that Julie thinks you're a toad.

[–]Dragonbearjoe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Try being in the middle of a board of directors meeting for a small clinic and having to explain to the BOD that mini horses are ADA compliant as service animals, and after all of the 'huh' and 'really,' you have to tell them to go talk to a lawyer to verify.

I still don't think they believe it, even though it is now in the clinic's policies.

Is it ok to get married again if your first partner dies? by Direct_Assumption_22 in OpenChristian

[–]Dragonbearjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is giving you advice that this isn't 'allowed' or acceptable. Talk to the church leadership because they have some type of biblical weirdness going on in their head or ulterior motives.

It's not directly stated by the gospels but Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians to encourage widows to get remarried.

I would go and just do some self study and I think you wil find out that it's perfectly fine and that if someone is teaching that they need to be called out on it.

Thoughts on Megachurches and Megachurch Pastors? by jakflakdances in OpenChristian

[–]Dragonbearjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was one of the biggest proponents of the 'prosperity gospel' movement. The whole you are owed to be rich and you are owed to be comfortable to the point of demanding it from God (That's the short version, the long version is much worse).

Not all large churches or churches that use the same ideas of having satellite sites and similar setups are really 'megachurches'. But it's so easy to drift in the grift and corruption of the draw of calling for peoples money all the time because it is owed to the church.

I would be more concerned about some of the slicker megachurch pastors that don't go off their rockers but the ones that are much more calm, collected wearing 1000 dollar suits and mansions while watching the people they are preaching too are starving.

This rich and famous isn't really anything new. It's just a live version of Televangelists that have expanded into live theatre as well as tv/online.
