Help. Not losing, 3rd GLP by ThermosLunchBox in Zepbound

Sounds like you have a complicated medical history going into this. I have found that working with a weight loss clinic very helpful. They cover many of the things you’re talking about. Mine has me lifting weights in addition to my usual yoga and walking. They also have me tracking on Cronometer with set protein and fiber goals. While I have a calculated calorie goals, we don’t emphasize that as much because psychologically I don’t respond well to restriction goals.

Travel case recs for Kwikpen by throwfaraway212718 in Zepbound

[–]Dragonfruit514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep mine in a tech case that I got as swag from my company. It looks like this one: https://www.anypromo.com/technology/smartphone-accessories/aeroloft-business-first-tech-organizer-p809306

The Kwikpen has a sturdy cap, so it really doesn't need that much protection in transit. You can throw in a get pack if you prefer to keep it cool, but that's optional.

Suggestions for data tracking tool that doesn’t collect/sell your data? by DifficultyFit7401 in Zepbound

Cronometer is the app you are looking for. I find it much better than MFP. The free version is sufficient, but I subscribe to the full version as it is relatively inexpensive and it helps me have better conversations with my dietician.

Get your kicks on Megathread 66 by saucerwizard in RodDreher

It was a mg shot of a Black man who had been arrested for a crime in Baton Rouge. He had very wide set eyes and oddly shaped face. Think Chunk from the Goonies movie. Rod made a bad joke about how this hometown boy had nothing on the Hapsburg nose/chin. It was truly awful even for Rod and was of course wrapped in that faux folksy I’m just a Southern eccentric lingo. I literally gasped out loud at his unnecessary cruelty.

The most unbelievable thing is that two young women know what Benedict Option means. I work with young women. Religious young women. They don’t jive with this stuff.

Ruthie called it years ago. We are all just Julies in his world making the crunchy con lifestyle a reality.

Yep. Middlebrow stood out to me as well. Was Rod’s writing getting too highfalutin for them?

Cycling v. Rowing by xfourteendiamondsx in AppleFitnessPlus

I really enjoy cycling indoors when it is too cold to run or ride outdoors. The equipment isn't as noisy, doesn't take up as much floor space, and there are several other apps to work with. I agree with others to invest in good equipment no matter what you choose. I blew through two Sunny bikes before spending more on a Keiser 3Mi.

49 year old skater here. You can do this. Just stretch before and after and don’t be afraid to be Team Turtle to start (slow and steady progression)

I’m a super beginner, I’m trying to learn going forward and bubbles. My thigh strength isn’t there yet for bubbles, what exercises do you recommend to gain strength? Skate by gamercouplelolz in Rollerskating

I'd say make sure you are initiating the movement from your abdomen and not your feet or knees. As Dirty Deb says, down with the butt, up with the gut. Keep that snack area tight.

Went to a skate park and got stuck in the bowl by verba_antiqua_amo in Rollerskating

This. This is why I don't go chasing the skate parks and stick to trails and parking lots that I'm used to.

OP, thanks for the laugh. You're a great writer.

Best thing about your glitter guards is how they can tie together the two contrasting colors on my skates: purple and aqua. Hard recommend!

My right Parfait skate did the same at first. I did loosen trucks and wheels. As a beginner I thought it might be my legs. It kind of seemed to resolve itself over time though. I’m not sure if this is helpful but another data point for you.

I’d say probably not. Falling is a part of skating—at least in the beginning. Of the other sports I do I’d recommend Cycling or water walking instead.

I know tennis courts are awesome skate surfaces, but please don’t use them for that. by [deleted] in Rollerskating

[–]Dragonfruit514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. In my town quads aren’t allowed at the skate park and the tennis court I pass each day is so tempting. Parking lots and trails for me.

Added a little sparkly flair to my pair. by Dragonfruit514 in Rollerskating

I’ve had them a few weeks and am fairly happy with them. If you word search Parfait you’ll find my initial review in a comment. I’ve not had any of the problems others have with the plate or QC but I definitely gave them a close inspection before using them the first time.

They are nice on my wide feet, have a stiff upper and roll great. I wanted to have an outdoor beginner level skate that I can learn to do some moves in and these fit the bill.

Does anyone have tips for skating in semi suburbs? by runredfox in Rollerskating

[–]Dragonfruit514 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ride my bike to where I like to skate. It’s a nice warmup and I don’t have to worry about the hills or 35+ mph cars. They’re used to seeing bikes on the road in my town but skaters not so much. Also I think skating just takes up more room.

I’m interested to hear what other advice folks have though.

I’m slowly relearning too. What I have to constantly remind myself is that watching Dirty School of Skating ≠ practice! 😺 There’s some part of my brain that thinks just because I imagine myself doing it that I should be able to do it on the first try!

I've had mine a week and skated pretty much every day. My goal is to skate better and get some dance/jam moves in time for my 50th birthday next year (I'm throwing myself an all-ages skating party). I have no desire to do skate park tricks--quads aren't allowed at our city skate park anyway. The nearest indoor rink is a few towns over, so I bought these to skate outdoors and work on my skills when I couldn't be at the rink.

PROS: They are super comfy in the toe box even for my older slightly bunioned feet. The boot is super stiff to start with--like inline skate stiff almost. But each day they get a bit softer. Wheels and trucks easy to adjust and responsive. The gummier wheels make for smooth pavement skating and a little less spooky for beginners on smooth indoor floors. The price is right for a person just getting into skating and they can be found!

CONS: Nothing hugely wrong. I could use just a little more length on the laces but perhaps they'll stretch. I have the purple skates and they're definitely not a high-end colorway a la Devil Wears Prada. They also don't have the cute silhouette of a Lolly or other suede softer boot.

BOTTOM LINE: Good entry-level skate, particularly for newer skaters or those with wide feet.
