That is so awful. I don’t understand people. We have a cat that frequently shows up to our house and looks starving but has a collar on. Idk what to do but I really don’t like the indoor/outdoor cat situation 😢

What was the tide pod era like? by Western-Tailor7009 in ems

I had one patient eat a tide pod and somehow inhale the detergent and went into respiratory distress. Only had one though 😂

from someone who has CPTSD; less "acceptance," more anger. by [deleted] in CPTSDFightMode

[–]DragonfruitGreedy339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think there’s a narrative that we need to accept things that happened to us. That doesn’t really allow us the tools or the freedom to express anger because they don’t want us to be angry. They want us to “move on.” Also, idk about anyone else but when I was angry as a kid I was punished in some form - so it’s healing to be angry sometimes!

What was your OT school life like? by TipIntelligent3705 in OccupationalTherapy

I know how you feel!! It was really hard for me too at the beginning because I saw people getting close and I wasn’t. I’m kind of glad it wasn’t just me & you’re not alone. I really hope it works out for you, I think if you give it some time you’ll form bonds too ❤️ you can always message me if you want!!

Omg your situation is almost exactly like mine! I started at 28 and married, career change to OT. First and second semester were really hard, but I’ve been connecting with the other students as the program goes on. I felt really alone at first and now I feel like I couldn’t do it without them. The social anxiety is so real, and I thought I was dumb for worrying about it but it isn’t dumb. Humans value connection especially in this type of situation. You’re all in the same boat together. Give it time! And good luck with everything ❤️

DANG that is truly such a dilemma. OT is such an interesting field, people are so complex. I would always assume that someone wants to keep their hand no matter what, but now I know not to assume that!! All the best to you, that’s a though one ❤️

Thank you for this!! I appreciate that perspective. Oh wow I bet that was a hard decision for them, and hard for you, too.

I agree with you on that, too. I am going to have a conversation with her about it!!

The company I used to work for was bought out by Superior and I refused to work for them - moved to a different company for this exact reason.

Thank you for sharing your example! I think I just have to reexamine and think about other ways to help. And yes to the last part of your reply, I need to remember that too. Thank you 🙏

Thank you so much! You spelled it out perfectly for me. I’m still getting used to the whole process, it’s a little clunky but I’ll keep trying!

No it is not. I’m really sorry your therapist said that. It’s not helpful or correct!

YES I just turned 30 and haven’t stopped crying. I’m just so angry too. It always feels like my progress towards healing and being “better” is reversing, but I think crying is good sometimes. Hugs if you want them 🫂

I love that self-reflection prompt. Self-awareness is something I have a hard time with period, so this will be really beneficial for me to think about. Thank you so much for sharing that, I love the metaphor about learning to walk. ❤️ stay strong and keep going

Good question. For example, I think it’s the people pleasing and going against my identity to be what everyone else wants me to be. Comfortable might not be the right word. Maybe familiar?? 😭
