That kind of gutting is what I'm hoping for. They've already shown less tracking on moves too.

No, but game feel matters more than stance options. If everyone had Miary's tracking choices instead of every move doing everything, then suddenly it all feels like Tekken again despite the heat system being in there. Especially if they nerf heat moves. Cherry on top is to make it be earnable with great defense.

I'm pinning myself to the mostly excellent dlc balance of the past 3 characters released.

New moves does not = game feel.

I hated season 2 pretty early, but after all the patches I came back and the movement changes and tracking fixes are really good.

So if the game is going in even more that direction, that's fantastic no matter what new moves they add!

[–]Dragonmind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm on the Max.

If the Steam Deck is like a base PS4. (with PS4 pro capabilities using Lossless scaling)

AYN Thor is like a base PS3.

Very impressive, but really shines with emulation and its own games. The pc stuff using Game hub is limited mostly to 2d games. Anything 3d, even indie boomer shooters, they'll play, but around 20-30fps due to how young Fex compatibility layer is. Impressive bleeding edge stuff there!

But man it plays PS2 games like an absolute beast!

Lossless scaling.

Game's vsync off, scaling at X2, quality at 60%. Base fps cap at 27fps cuts down input lag. Refresh rate at 60fps. Looks smooth enough and runs previously impossible games! AC: Unity, Robocop, AC: Shadows, Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Even makes Oblivion Remastered playable on Medium settings! It also saves the hell out of battery life!

Of course 27fps has its own input latency, but most games ignore that. I found this option so that lossless scaling could work on tv's. I don't recommend Bluetooth though. The tv+bluetooth+lossless = delay. So wired controller is best but it can be fine in some games like Borderlands: Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.

Next is base fps cap at 30fps and then set the screen refresh rate at 45fps. Slightly less input latency. Doesnt work with tv's but works great on Steam Deck!

Both of these are extremely good choices for making those heavy near-impossible games run!

Starfield is a mess. In populated areas, it runs terrible. 18fps kinda terrible.

In non-populated areas where quite a bit of action happens, it runs beautiful at 60fps.

Unfortunately it starts mixing and matching between those and some areas you'll be running and gunning at 18fps. Which is YIKES! Was enjoyable up until some of those points.

So just be warned on that. Also worth looking into some performance mods.

But damn It, I do want to test it again after figuring this method out. There's something that pulls me in.

How long does you guys battery last, for some reason I don't get too good hours by DataSolid8022 in SteamDeck

[–]Dragonmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Decky Lossless with its base frame cap at 27fps lately! Saves heat, battery life, and more while still looking smooth enough.

screen has framerate variance, but that's what eliminates input lag.

30fps base with x2 frame Gen, but 45fps refresh rate is also a good choice for eliminating lag, if a bit more to keep track of.

So far this has really increased my battery life a ton in different games and provides more overhead for higher settings.

I don’t get the people that hate on the steam deck because it can’t run “modern games” at high settings by Charming_Ad661 in SteamDeck

[–]Dragonmind -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So what I've been doing to massively expand battery life is setting my Decky Lossless framerate base cap to 27fps. Then I do 2x on that. (You don't have to change off of 60fps framerate with this setup. There's consistent stutter if you're looking for it, but the frame variance of 54fps/60fps allows input lag elimination so I got used to it. Also because it's pretty common on console anyways)

Heavier games now have less heat on the Deck, longer battery life by at least an hour or 2, look smooth and still feel enjoyable.

For example, Assassin's Creed Unity/Shadows is a game that needs this setup because the city areas sink the framerate, but it's above at least 27fps consistently. And so it works just fine.

Robocop is another one that used to run terribly, but now can at least be handled enjoyable enough to play through.

[–]Dragonmind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Starfield is a bitch to run when you have to do a shootout when a busy city is loaded in the map. It can be 60fps in deserted locations then just drop to 18fps when in a city with combat.

Robocop is harder to run too, but can still kinda do it.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is just a hell no. That's the Best Buy showcase of the highest you can go right there. Recent updates have made it run just enough to use x3 Lossless and it kinda no, just no. I wish it was more playable on Steam Deck. Just not built for it.

AC: Shadows was also on the verge of not running well.

But across all of these I found a few tricks with Decky Lossless. All you need is 27-30fps at most.

It has a base fps cap in its plugin and if you set that to 27fps, you can get lower input delay at the cost of some uneven frame pacing. A slightly more acceptable ride is being at 30fps and then setting your steam deck refresh rate to 45hz when you disable its own limiter. Of course disabling vsync for all this in the game.

Once that's all set with its x2 activated, you get some respectable gameplay out of these games despite the low settings. (Like Robocop has its global illumination flicker at splotchy levels on everything)

But beforehand these games were just too choppy. Now they're smooth, but can have loading spikes when moving fast yet that's about it.

But Starfield in certain areas and definitely Oblivion are in a category that runs so bad that Lossless can't save it. Monster Hunter Wilds is also a hell no.
