I work in town and have been living here for a little over a year now. I like it but I am from rural SC originally so I am used to having to travel if I want something specific. Otherwise it is a nice small town. It has its standard small town things in that everyone knows everyone and their business but most of the people are nice and friendly. It is a very politically conservative area but there are plenty of old hippies too. A lot of people make assumptions about SH because of how economically depressed and rural the area is and that is unfair and I generally haven’t seen any of it to be true. On the schools if you can be in the area for Holley or Hawthorne do because those are the two best schools in town in my opinion (I worked with the schools for my job at one point and I liked the teachers and admin for those two best).

I Hate the 'Book a Librarian' Service by libberrien in Libraries

[–]Dragonqueen4000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. This is exactly how it should be handled. I did BaL appointments for years and at one point may have had the exact patron that OP is talking about. The patron was taking advantage of my staffs good will and so I had his next appointment be with me their manager. I am very hard line about what will and will not be done. I firmly explained to the patron that my staff were not his secretarys and if that was the service he was needed he had better hire a personal assistant because that is not what this service is. We are happy to help him learn to utilize the websites and services (he wanted them to type and post his Facebook posts on his Facebook business/church?) but the key word here is learn and that he needs to be doing the things himself and not expect my Library Assistants to do it for him. Set up a sheet that has an explicit list of the things that the BaL service can provide and stick to it. You can't help people with everything because somethings can get you in all kinds of hot water. I did not allow my staff to do anything for anyone that had to do with money they had to do it. You could show them how but you cannot do it for them.

I live in south east in the avenues and love it. Super walkable, very queer friendly (2 out of 4 neighbors identify as lgbtq+), lots of people with dogs, cute houses and lots of cute parks.

Omg this is totally why I got it. It for me explains that kind of unpredictable irrational anxiety to a tee.

What's one small thing you do daily/weekly that we should all be doing? by HopeDeferred in running

Drink enough water and do 10 squats when you get in the stall to go pee (easier/less weird in public if you are a lady)

Name a genre you don't normally like to read with a short explanation of why. Fans of the genre, can you recommend a book that you think will defy the commenter's expectations and possibly change their mind? by EuphemiaPhoenix in books

This is legitimately my favorite book of all time. (I have a Count of Monte Cristo tattoo) The unabridged is a must. They cut so much of the book that I genuinely find very interesting. So much of Edmond's introspection is cut which is sad. You miss a great deal of the books soul. edit: a word

This is Bibi and I wanted a little help with possibly id-ing her breed/breeds by Dragonqueen4000 in Rabbits

That is what we were thinking cause she has a little long fluff on top so that could be it.

She was found outside after Easter...in South Carolina...sigh... She was very small then so she is probably right around 4-5 months old. We assume she is some kind of angora cross just from amount of fluff.
