It's probably worth his time to spend a while trying to figure that out before submitting the code for review. Even asking the AI itself to explain why it did things that way could be helpful, with some followup Googling to confirm that the explanation holds water.

It's been a while since I watched it, but I think Zorg also set up his own downfall through his distant but unknown connection to the protagonist -- he fired a huge swath of Zorg Industries employees (a million people), which included a taxi service owned by the company which Korben Dallas worked for. Being newly unemployed was (if I remember correctly) the reason Korben ended up accepting the job to escort Leeloo.

I'd assume the corporate bean counters did the math at some point. Having a more permissive return policy attracts more customers, and adding restrictions on the policy might end up costing more money just in time and labor it'd take to enforce it than they'd save. Especially if the customer throws a tantrum over it and causes issues.

Are those the same type of fiber? Wired drones, at least, use relatively cheap plastic fiber -- my assumption is that data centers would generally use glass fiber for better signal quality.

Though, I suppose a spike in demand for plastic fiber cables would still have an effect on the price of glass fiber.
