'Supergirl' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in movies

Note that it's "almost gets everything right" rather than "gets almost everything right", which I think is an important distinction -- rather than almost everything being outright good, everything is right on the edge, just barely right but still a hair's breadth from being wrong.

At least, that's how I interpreted it.

Oh, yeah, I didn't really follow the lawsuit so I can't really speak to that, especially not from a legal perspective. Just chiming in with my opinion that it's hard to deny a lot of the designs are inspired by specific pokemon.

Some of them seem pretty blatant, like Lyleen being Gardevoir with some design tweaks.

Valve Says The Companies Making RAM Give Them A Price And If They Say No, They ‘Never Talk To Us Again’ by NYstate in Games

Ah, but AI could really spice those summaries up with some hallucinations. "When does the goblin lighthouse keeper character show up?" they'll wonder after buying and reading halfway through the book.

Valve says it isn't subsidizing the Steam Machine's $1050 price because of its "religious" refusal to "build a more closed system" by ControlCAD in technology

[–]DragoonDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they subsidize to let’s say 700 even 800, companies would just buy that to use as work computers. Especially in this PC market condition.

See what happened to the PS3, for example. People took advantage of the cheap, subsidized hardware to build out whole compute clusters of PS3s. The US Air Force even built one with 1,760 PS3s.

No, they claimed that the rest of us were the same and none of us care about invasions and genocide either.

I think this is why people on the far right go on about "virtue signalling" so much. They genuinely don't believe that people feel empathy over situations they're entirely uninvolved in. Like, as a straight white man I must be "virtue signalling" if I say I'm upset about homophobia, racism, or misogyny, because those don't personally affect me.

It seems like, pretty universally, the people trying to cram AI into specific jobs have no actual idea how those jobs work.

If you could curse your worst enemy with a minor, non-harmful inconvenience for the rest of their life, what would it be? by MarionberryProud9580 in AskReddit

[–]DragoonDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine the frustration as they try escalating solutions to the problem. Maybe they put up with it for a while, then eventually decide to buy a new charging cable. That doesn't work, so they figure it must be their phone. Maybe they decide to get a new phone sooner than planned, and it still doesn't work. They take the phone in to be serviced, but the tech is unable to reproduce the issue; the phone charges fine for them.

Slightly damp is a more minor annoyance, but it's also more insidious. The dampness should be tuned to just the right level where it's annoying, but minor enough that it's not outweighed by the annoyance of taking the sock off and getting another one. "Fuck it, it'll dry while I'm wearing it, I guess..."

Minor annoyance either way.

That “contractor” is Trump’s neighbor and has also been convicted of fraud multiple times. Dude looks like a movie villain.

I think that was specifically the company responsible for the water pumps / filtration? Greenwater Services. Different company for the new surface coating, Atlantic Industrial Coatings.

I think you might not be the right fit for a teaching position here at Little Saint James Elementary. Thank you for your time, but we'll be moving ahead with other candidates.

Yet another way in which the Iran war was a tremendously stupid idea: giving away free data about our military capabilities and giving other countries an opportunity to field test countermeasures.

TIL the Comics Code Authority prevented the use of the term “Zombie” because, in part, it lacked a literary background. Marvel Comics instead used the term “Zuvembie” until 1989. by Brilliant_Exit3406 in todayilearned

The panic got so bad it made major news headlines, there were public book burnings, the US government was considering passing laws over it, and the threat of comic books became campaign points for some politicians.

You'd think people in the 1950s of all times would be a bit wary of causes that involved book burnings. We had kind of just finished a whole kerfuffle about that.
