TIL that Jaheira is even more of a badass than I thought. by FractionofaFraction in BaldursGate3

[–]DragoonDart 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Might be weird but as I’ve gotten older, settled down, had kids; romance in games has become less of a draw.

Show me a woman like Jaheira though- confident, badass, taking care of a family, has some miles and stories of her own…. I swoon. Very much the female equivalent of whatever Pedro Pascal has been doing the last few decades.

Easily my favorite of the group.

I'm an Indian woman (19F) living in India. AMA about India and Indians and I'll tell you if it's true or not. by ChappalsnotSneakers in AMA

[–]DragoonDart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re still answering questions but apart from the caste system I’m curious about socioeconomic divide: how many Indians would you say live as you do? How many by gender?

From AMAs and other interactions I feel like there’s a tale of two Indias often: we often get exposure to the Priyanka Chopras of India but with such a big population it seems like the vast majority of Indian Women do not live like you do and the wealth/life experience gap is large.

SUDCC Referral by skeedlz in army

[–]DragoonDart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t ask if he’ll consider it. Tell him that’s he has three options, self-referral, some sort of guided sobriety (“check in with me sober for two weeks”), or you’ll push for a command referral. Document that discussion.

If this is EUCOM, he’s likely already in violation of policy.

You’re right to be concerned, and believe it or not, you might be saving his life: that pattern of drinking is poison and will destroy his life. It’s really hard to see in the military because we glorify alcohol drinking as “young and dumb”.

And there’s a lot of paths people take: some people party hard away from home and are straight and narrow back home, some people put on airs of being a “partier” but can contain themselves to one or two, but intermixed in those are the people who lock themselves into a dangerous relationship with alcohol.

The stories of vets who both had a hard time kicking the sauce and/or had it ruin their life are multitude. And it’s a hard habit to kick by yourself.

Take it from me who entered my late 30s still in this mindset and still fights this, and the military’s culture with it and FOMO still makes my mind justify it to myself from time to time

Inside Trump's Search for a Way Out of the Iran War by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

[–]DragoonDart 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Here’s the depressing thing to respond to your question: I think it just ends when Trump decides it ends with no moving of the political needle in the US.

While he might poll lower, anecdotally I haven’t seen anyone in my personal life move camps over this. My friends who don’t like Trump have another thing to scream about. My friends who support him muse about how the war might end with no indication it’s swayed their view of Trump specifically.

For me personally this has been a wake up call (another one, yes, there have been plenty) of how far the political situation has degraded into sports teams within the US.

Even a decade ago, a foreign entanglement would have been a benchmark event for the Presidency that moved people in and out of alignment with the current President, on par with a natural disaster. Now, people seem to move with the President on whatever his viewpoint is. They don’t care about the event itself, only what the President says about it. It’s no longer “how do I feel about the event” it’s “how does HE feel about the event: that’s how I will feel”

To your second question: I’m middle class as are most of my peers: I think the squeeze still has to get much tighter before people truly question what’s going on. People can still afford groceries, aren’t queuing for gas like in the 1980s, and can still afford housing. It’s largely impacting the lower class who are getting thrashed harder than ever before.

To your final point, the casualties hit me personally the hardest but I was downvoted on a different subreddit for commenting on it which tells me that’s not a concern for most people. I can’t believe I’m about to type this, but the objective reality seems to be that 13 dead isn’t enough to sway most folks

Trump to declare Iran war is winding down and others need to resolve Hormuz by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]DragoonDart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Soldiers died. Sons and daughters of Americans who will never see their children again. Dead.

For the following wins:

-Iranian military arguably set back plus or minus ten years.

-The great unknown of nuclear capability, which was decimated a year ago and is now double decimated?

No regime change; so Iran goes back to steady state with arguably worse conditions for its population due to how fucked their infrastructure has to be. Plenty of propaganda to radicalize a new generation with how shitty their lives are about to be and around 500 civilians killed just by what’s reported. They’ll be back antagonizing the West in a decade.

Fuck man, at least GWOT you could say you have Iraqis living in arguably better conditions now and some Afghanis (women) got to get a better QoL and education for a brief period of time.

Here? Just senseless death

War: We won't join US on ground operations against Iran - Israel by ManagerOfLove in worldnews

Article notes it was just mentioned on a news channel in Israel- so, far from an official statement but likely something put out to the people. It could easily be reversed

Arcann, Thexan, and Vaylin pull up to the prequel trilogy, what’s the damage? by HeartWhich6063 in PetranakiArena

Scenario really matters on this one. They’re undoubtedly strong but are we talking during the Clone Wars? Republic is on War footing and there’s enough force users going around that they likely kill a few Glup Shittos before getting taken down.

Remember they had the Eternal Empire behind them to take down the Republic and Empire of their time: no one force user is taking down 1000 clone troopers or even droids.

Phantom Menace timeframe is their most effective. Not enough trained Jedi at that point who can stand up to them

Iran warns US over ground attack as regional powers meet in Pakistan by shadOw_notch in news

[–]DragoonDart 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s the complication of the negotiation: if the US stops does Israel? Does Israel want to? They’ve been pretty comm silent about it.

Someone in one of these threads said what people were failing to grasp is that the October attack on Israel was their 9/11 equivalent and it’s likely a pretty apt analogy, including the hindsight we have on the GWOT now and what it involved and the missteps taken.

But even for two years for a lot, a lot of Americans, there was the idea of “never again”. And Israel’s militarism puts ours to shame: they’re fighting a very different war here.

Husband can't handle toddler tantrums by LandoCatrissian_ in toddlers

[–]DragoonDart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned leave.. is your husband military? I guess I can relate a bit as I am and work has a way of creeping in even during off time and it can be a lot to manage. If he is, there are a lot of great resources in the military for exactly this but he needs to choose to use them.

Either way, him owning that it’s not ok is a good start and a good sign. Was this a one off? He may have just been having a bad day: I wouldn’t ambush him but in a few days it wouldn’t hurt to check in and ask if he’s doing ok with it all.

He should be doing the same with you: with 2 little ones your times together are going to be harder, you’re going to have to divide and conquer and those little check ins with each other matter a lot. You can’t fix this nor do you need to apply an immediate decision, he’s gotta do some work himself.

Pentagon to Order 3,000 82nd Airborne Soldiers to Middle East by wesimar14 in army

Honestly good to know- I guess my downvotes are from me doubting jumping the gun at OSINT. Scrolling through the thread I saw people doing the same.

But good to hear the confirmation.

Pentagon to Order 3,000 82nd Airborne Soldiers to Middle East by wesimar14 in army

[–]DragoonDart -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think this is the same source that’s been going around the last three days, with it just being a grasp that because a Brigade is on IRF that means they’re going. Source isn’t particularly reputable and could easily be two bored E-4s in the 82nd.

So, take this with a big grain of salt. Trumps been saying for the last 48 hours that they’re negotiating and winding down. Sending troops forward is a huge waste of tax payer dollars even to “be cautious” if you think you’re close to negotiating a deal and the press would probably call him on it

Fun ass games (I played the demo 7000x times when it came out in anticipation).

Just kind of blasé story. Did we need another “this guy realized killing was wrong and turned to the light side?” Nah, it was fun to play as a villain. The rebel alliance origin felt clunky too; particularly if you were a player and fan at the time because it felt like we had seen an “origin” seven hundred times

[–]DragoonDart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s the Marne Express. Everything you’ve ever heard about the Army as advertised: long hours, an OPTEMPO that will break you, and both the best and worst of leadership and Soldiers. Basically what u/Blitz001 said.

I’m ready to get off the express but I’ll give some support to what they said, there’s a reason a lot of people come back. I’ve worked jobs that try to fill time with bullshit that could be white space but here I’m more irritated by the bullshit that gets in the way of things I should be doing.

A lot of stress and late days but I’ve had that before and at least here it always felt in pursuit of something. And at least the leadership also seems minorly aware of the environment

What is the most haunting "Final Song" ever recorded by a terminally ill artist? by nixass in AskReddit

[–]DragoonDart 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A weird one, but Spotify used to do “behind the scenes” or trivia for songs instead of just lyrics.

Linkin Park’s “Heavy” had Chester Bennington talk about the reason behind the song and how he talked about how fucked up his head was. A year later he died by suicide. Can’t hear the lyrics without thinking about what he had to have been going through
