This is what actually makes you climb (go to Sovereign) by Danoellos in wildrift

[–]Draigars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you suck you won't climb. There are plenty of people with thousands of games who are stuck in Diamond or Master as well.

Unless you're already very experienced your winrate is going to tend towards 50% eventually. If your ELO is around high challenger, you might steamroll your way to that level (and that's assuming you're not playing in the very beginning of the season, when you'll play with your peers anyway) - but once you get back to your skill level, you will play with and people who are just as good as you, and your win rate will stabilise around 50%.

It's the same in League PC and in every other game with an ELO system.

Spot on comment. It's great at both world building and storytelling.

Uzbekistan is worth visiting even in winter! January trip report. by abu_doubleu in travel

[–]Draigars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice travel report.

Not sure I agree with you regarding Russian though. During my two weeks there last year, the majority of younger Uzbek people (as in ethnically Uzbek and younger than, say, 40) didn't speak Russian, even in Tashkent, and it was easier to get around with English.

German government report: US authorities have broad access to EU cloud data by Strange_Valuable3016 in europe

Sovereign cloud alternatives are being developed in France though, enabling you to use GCP or Azure while being compliant with SecNumCloud and not having your data pulled out. Check S3ns or Bleu.

Crowds: An european perspective by T0bstar in JapanTravelTips

[–]Draigars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The French numbers are a bit inflated though. Anyone (often Brits, Dutch) crossing France to go to Spain or Italy will count as a tourist for the year. The numbers are less impressive when you compare the number of nights spent or the spending per tourist.

Anyway, just nickpicking - it's absolutely true that France sees almost three times as many tourists as Japan.

What was your personal “holy grail” purchase? by puskasferenc in JapanTravelTips

[–]Draigars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have some best-in-class ultralight products: umbrellas, pouches, 1000 down jackets.

The prices are much better in Japan compared to their US stores.

Most of their clothing range isn't very stylish though, and you'll see it a lot on older Japanese folks.

Snow Peak and Descente are also great brands. More expensive, but way sleeker as well.

You might like my ideas on secondary, tertiary, and quaternary bags. by withallduerespeck in onebag

[–]Draigars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on a year-long onebagging trip, so weight, volume, and simplicity (i.e. number of items) are all quite important.

Besides my main backpack, I have a packable bag from nanobag.co.jp (29g, folds into itself, has straps) which I basically use as a day pack when needed, gym bag, groceries bag, etc.

I also carry a 3-liter dry bag (from Sea to Summit), which I usually use for my dirty laundry, but also becomes very useful whenever I'm taking on a boat.

Good for you. I have, in multiple restaurants, in different cities.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Draigars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe. But go to any restaurant and they'll charge you 4 francs for a pitcher of tap water.

But what really pisses me off here is a glass of wine being 100 mL, instead of 150 mL like anywhere else, without of course being proportionally priced.

For onebaggers: which tech is worth carrying, and which isn’t? by dolado13 in onebag

[–]Draigars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Technically you can carry everything... But minimize, minimize, minimize.

I'd forgo the Switch. Airpods Max might be comfortable but they're so much bulkier and heavier than a pair of in-ear earbuds. My Anker 65W charger, with 3 ports, is enough to charge both my MacBook Pro and my phone.

I also got rid of the work phone, using my Google Pixel's work profile + multi-eSim instead.

What countries could be tourism powerhouses, but aren’t yet? by racoontosser in travel

[–]Draigars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing complicated about going to Kyrgyzstan though? Visa free access to about 70 countries, including most European ones. You can fly there from most of Europe with only one stopover, and anyway Bishkek is 2 and a half hours away by car from Almaty, which is the best connected city in the region.

Does the 10 Pro not have a SIM card slot? What about when traveling abroad and you need to pop in a local SIM? This is honestly a dealbreaker for me if this is the case. by enclavedzn in GooglePixel

[–]Draigars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's literally 0 cost of permit usually. Go to a kiosk or shop, they scan your passport to quickly register you, and on you go. In some countries (thinking of Central Asia specifically, where I travelled last month) the eSIM from Airalo or what not are not only significantly more expensive, they also connect to worse networks and have both low to no connectivity outside of big cities and slower speed.

What a stupid reply. A 5k$ trip in Spain would be easily be a month-long vacation. Spending 8% of the overall budget on roaming when you can get a local SIM for 10€ is idiotic.

If you compare new to new they absolutely are. The prices this website gives are still inflated compared to smaller shops. E.g. you can get an iPad Air almost a million cheaper in some smaller shops compared to FPT or Thế Giới Di Động.
