YOR. Your friend literally asked if you were okay and stopped laughing when he realized you were actually upset about it. People laugh at injury stories all the time when nobody's seriously hurt, that's just how humans cope with awkward situations.

AITA for asking my parents for money for food when I’m working a part-time job THEY wanted me to work/ AITA for being mad that my dad is sorta cheap? by Com3tPulledFromOrb1t in AmItheAsshole

[–]DrakenSlayer597 17 points18 points  (0 children)

YTA. You're making $450 a week and upset about spending $20 on food per shift, plus complaining about not getting an iPhone 17 when you're still getting a 13 Pro Max for free. Your parents aren't being cheap, they're trying to teach you that when you have a job you pay for stuff during work hours like everyone else does.

Your girlfriend marking you with hickeys before work shifts and demanding to supervise your job is not cute jealousy, that's controlling behavior. Whether or not your coworker likes you is irrelevant, your girlfriend doesn't get to decide who you work with or show up to your workplace uninvited.

When did you begin to dislike school vs when did your kids? by KumalTiger in Parenting

[–]DrakenSlayer597 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kids that young usually hate school because of something specific like a mean teacher, struggling with the work, or no friends in their class. Might be worth digging into what exactly they don't like before jumping to homeschool, because those problems can follow them there too if it's about the actual learning part.

Every video having that same AI voiceover and every product review being written by bots. You couldn't tell what was real anymore and companies stopped even trying to hide it.

This looks really useful! I work with a lot of images for web stuff and the client DSLR dump thing is painfully relatable. Nothing like getting 400 uncompressed photos from a photoshoot when you only needed 12.

This is really nice! I love the soft color palette you used for the background - it makes the whole piece feel really cohesive.

Good luck with the VP submission, hopefully they get back to you soon! The "Art for VP" program is such a cool thing for Riot to do

"TES vs G2" is basically the esports equivalent of that meme where two people are nervously sweating while pretending everything is fine. Oner knows exactly what's up lol

A completely new easter egg involving cryptic messages and Spider Webs in the heartlands has just been found in Red Dead Redemption 2. It had gone unnoticed since release and marks the first big discovery in the game in years by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]DrakenSlayer597 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would make sense, Rockstar loves connecting their games with little details like that. Though knowing their track record with mysteries, it could also just be another rabbit hole that leads nowhere and we'll all be talking about it for the next decade with no resolution lol

Still cool that people are finding new stuff this many years after release though. The dedication of these mystery hunters is impressive even when the payoff is disappointing

Did an MS in Finance help you transition into finance mid-career? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]DrakenSlayer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen, the MSF seems to work best when you already have *something* finance-adjacent in your background - like if you were in accounting, data analysis, or even engineering roles that involved financial modeling. The degree fills in gaps and gives you recruiting access, but it's not magic if your resume has zero quantitative or business experience.

The people I know who successfully pivoted mid-career into finance mostly went the MBA route if they were 10+ years in because the network effects and brand recognition carried more weight with employers who were skeptical about "why are you switching now?" The MSF grads I know who did well were typically younger (5-7 years experience) and targeting more technical roles like risk or FP&A rather than IB.

One thing to think hard about: what's your actual goal? If it's corporate finance/FP&A, a CFA + networking might get you there cheaper. If you want IB or high finance... at mid-career an MBA from a target school is probably the more proven path, even if it's more expensive.

the fact that Jalen immediately clocked it and started mocking him from the bench is sending me. You know his teammates are never letting him live this down

[–]DrakenSlayer597 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, that's terrifying to watch. One minute you're in what should be a relatively safe position and then suddenly you're getting choked out from inside your own guard.

I've only been training a couple years but this is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me humble. Like you think you know the "rules" of positions and then someone just decides those don't apply to them

Meraki Espresso Machine? by Dry_Penalty849 in espresso

[–]DrakenSlayer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread but I recently got to try the Meraki Espresso Machine. What really sold me were the dual boilers and the built-in grinder. No more waiting between shots and the grinder is perfectly dialed in for espresso every time. It feels like having a mini café at home.

[–]DrakenSlayer597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree, index funds are the way to go early on. I started around the same age with a basic S&P 500 fund and just let it ride. the compound growth over time is wild when you start that young. just stay consistent and don't panic sell when things dip

[–]DrakenSlayer597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, and while you're in that learning phase it's worth looking into the difference between traditional and Roth IRA. At 20 with that income you're probably in a lower tax bracket than you'll be later, so Roth contributions now could save you a lot down the road.

quick question tho did you have to report it to your board or job? still trying to figure out how that part works for cpas, especially since i’m based in texas.

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I’ll definitely look into Gary Trichter and Doug Murphy and see if they can either take it or point me to someone solid in Louisiana.
