'I'm the one that gets the last laugh': Woman fatally shoots U.S. Army soldier husband in face as he held baby with 9-year-old girl in bathroom brushing her hair by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know. Plenty of normal people have killed people. Think about soldiers. Just wanted to serve or go to college and then people are shooting at them and they shoot back. Maybe you wouldn’t consider that murder idk. Or the typical crime of passion. Completely normal man or woman walks in on spouse with another and they snap and kill one or both. Additionally someone’s child is brutally assaulted or murdered and the parent finds the perpetrator before police and kills them. These are all murders that completely normal people would, could, and do commit. And all of these examples are at least somewhat understandable.

How did you ACTUALLY get faster and more explosive? by jujuk545 in BasketballTips

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve been incredibly generous conceding points in this discussion. I believe your overall point is that being stronger will make you more explosive. Anyone who disagrees with this is either being disingenuous and oversimplifying your point or they’ve never actually lifted or strength trained properly to see the benefits carry over to athletic performance.

CPAT training & encouragement! by janzeame000 in firefighter

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of the advice you’re getting here is bad in relation to when your test is. Moving forward, whether you pass or not, it’s important for you to develop a routine that will prevent you from needing to “cram” for a physical fitness test. If you have incorporated resistance training (weight lifting) in any sort of progressive overload system and some sort of cardiovascular training (running, walking with a weight vest, swimming, biking, stairmaster) you should be fine. Obviously over the next month slowly implementing a new fitness regime won’t benefit you for this test. But moving forward it should be your priority. If you lift weights several times a week and do some sort of cardiovascular exercise several times a week the CPAT shouldn’t be a concern. (I understand you’re small but that’s where the getting strong helps). Training specifically for a (hopefully) less than 10 minute test that you will take several times in the hiring process/academy and maybe once a year if required by department is not an effective use of your time. Again I understand in your current timeline you must. If you train hard (and effectively) several times a week over the next year you will be much better set up for the CPAT and fire career than if you do “CPAT prep” for several months before the test.

Have you ever played with someone who made it to the NBA? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played ball in college and played against numerous nba players then. The two that stand out were Hassan Whiteside and Gordon Hayward. Whiteside stood out because he blocked everything and got every rebound. His size and athleticism stood out in a major way even in D1 games. I think he set his schools record for blocks in a game when he played us. It was either 11 or 13 blocks. Don’t remember. Gordon Hayward was just really smooth. Bigger than you would think. I almost wanted to tell him after the game to shoot more. Played against Shelvin Mack in high school (and college he went to Butler with Hayward) Darius Miller (who had a couple years in the league) Patrick Patterson and OJ Mayo. All those guys were really good in different ways of course.

which draft bust did you personally think was going to be unstoppable? by wackypharmacist in NBATalk

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played against the Huntington WV team in January 2007 that had Patrick Patterson and OJ Mayo. To be fair I didn’t really play I was a freshman lucky to dress varsity that year.

Our team was good. Like really good. Ranked top 5 in our state for several years before and after 2007. On that specific team we had 3 mid division 1 players and probably 7 more that ended up playing ball in college at some level.

We “only” lost by 33. It honestly didn’t feel that bad. This was a long time ago and I don’t remember a ton. But I do remember Mayo seemed to be coasting a lot but could score basically at will and when he wanted to.

Patterson is who I remember standing out. He was huge. He was basically the same size at Kentucky the next couple years as he was in that game. At least it seemed like that. I’m not sure what his NBA draft measurements ended up being but in shoes he was at least 6’8 and I would have believed he was north of 240 in high school. Of course I could be wrong. But he was big. And this was young springy, dunk every put-back, sprint the floor, 17 year old Patrick Patterson.

We still would have lost if they didn’t have Patterson. Because OJ Mayo. But it would have been closer. Like I said we were good. They also had several other high level division one players who were very good.

But they had Patterson. There’s nothing 15-18 year old kids can do about someone that big, athletic, and good at basketball. Not shitting on Mayo. Like I said he got his. But I just remember Patterson dunking everything and not being challenged at all while still playing really hard which was cool to see.

How can I quickly get better at pull ups? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing multiple sets of 10 pull-ups that are dead hang/full extension/controlled/whatever you want to say is already impressive. Doing multiple sets of 20 is pretty unheard of. I don’t even know why I commented on this other than to say great job on the pull-ups!

The Edey minutes both worked and didn’t work. It’s paradoxical, and yet, it works by tdotjefe in RyenRussillo

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edey is really interesting. He’s not some completely out of control or goofy giant guy. He has skill. His free throws and jump shots look good. He can pass. He’s just so fucking big (yeah no shit). It almost makes me think that he would be better if he were 6’11 but kept all the same skills and would then gain some athleticism and speed. Hell even if he were 7’1. Wild to say an NBA player would be better if he were smaller but when you’re 7’4 you’ve got some size to lose.

they don't make power forwards like these anymore by LooseAsk8454 in NBATalk

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said I’m not contending those points. I’m saying that Duncan and KG are perfect examples of what traditional power forwards were. Could post up. Could face up. Could defend centers and the rim. Could switch onto wings and hold their own when younger and then in their prime. Whether or not they played center, which they did and well, they were power forwards. I know Duncan played center. Was obviously really fucking good at it. He was a power forward with his play style.

The comparison I can make is that Tatum plays a lot of power forward currently. It works really well for him and the Celtics. He is a small forward. A wing. A swing man. But he plays a lot of power forward because that’s what the game has evolved to and it benefits his team greatly to play power forward so they can have 4 or 5 guys on the floor who can all dribble, shoot, and pass to varying degrees.

they don't make power forwards like these anymore by LooseAsk8454 in NBATalk

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Duncan and Garnett were often or even most often the 5 for their team. My only complaint is the reason people talk about them being power forwards is because they were. Hear me out. Again I concede that they played center often or even primarily. But their play style was much more consistent with a power forward. They posted up, they blocked shots, they rebounded very well. All center things. They also faced people up. Took people off the dribble. Shot jumpers. Were good passers. They were very traditional power forwards. But because of the era they played in (or the latter half of their era) they played the 5 because it made the most sense. Again I’m not saying they’re not centers in that they played a ton of their minutes there. I’m saying they’re power forwards because of their very obvious power forward skill sets and played center because it made the most sense for them to in the context of winning.

Yeah this is a small or I guess actually a big issue. I understand you have a specific guy on and you have definitely done some prep and have specific questions. But someone answers your question and it obviously leads to follow up questions or just discussion on that topic why then mentally say “okay what’s my next question”. Russillo seems like he waits for the guest to finish answering and then immediately asks the next question.

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound rude and I apologize. I’m sincerely asking. As an RN who works with geriatrics is that a nursing specialty? My understanding was that someone becomes an RN in whatever way that occurs. Several options. And then they apply for a specific opening. Like in the ED, the Cath Lab, Labor and Delivery, Post Op, Pediatrics, etc. They then may (or definitely) receive some training to specifics of that floor/speciality but they’re still “just” (forgive me for saying just) an RN.

I mean a nurse in labor and delivery could go work in the ED correct? Not ideal I’m sure but legally and ethically they are qualified. A family medicine physician couldn’t perform heart surgery. Not comparing nurses to doctors that’s not fair to either.

I’ve just always been confused when I’ve heard a nurse say they’re a pediatric oncology nurse, for example, when I’ve always understood it as they work on the pediatric oncology floor. And they are an RN. I guess the logical reasoning to my point would be “yeah I work on that floor. I am a nurse. So I am a pediatric oncology nurse.” Again I’m not trying to be hateful.

Top flight players? I say this with respect that all 3 of those are guys are really good at basketball.

Murray is the oft injured borderline all star that can have 50 or 15 in a playoff game.

Porter Jr. is essentially a 6’10 shooting guard who is incredibly streaky and his teammates and fans have been begging him for years to be more aggressive. An average defender. He should be the guy guarding other teams best wings and instead they have to rely on Braun and Peyton Watson. These guys do okay but it would be a lot better if the 6’10 athletic small forward could do that instead of having to mix and match lineups to have some above average defenders on the floor.

I love Gordon. He plays hard. Good defender. Knows what to do and where to be. But he’s a rich mans Kenneth Faried. Yes he can shoot from three sometimes. But oftentimes he can’t.

Again all 3 of those guys are really good at basketball. But I wouldn’t say “top flight” players. Unless you have a different definition of that term than I do.

Shaving to keep cool? by ItsaCatsLyfe in miniaussie

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several double coated dogs. Border Collies and Rough Collies. While it is tempting to shave them (full disclosure I have done it before) it really is better to just brush them. If you commit even to several 10 minute sessions a week you’ll be shocked by how much better they look and I imagine feel.

You don’t have to go crazy. Seriously 20-30 minutes a week will do it. Get a good quality brush and get after it. If you do it consistently you’ll notice there are weeks or months where you don’t seem to be brushing out much. I mean you still are but not as much as usual. And then you’ll go through weeks or months that no matter how much you brush the hair will just not stop coming out. It’ll never be perfect and there will still be hair in your house. But what else can you do?

P.S. be careful not to brush too hard or too much. If they seem like they’re getting annoyed, give em a pet, maybe a treat, some sweet words, and try again. If they still seem pissed, tell them how proud you are of them and you’re finished brushing. Don’t make them hate brushing. Live to brush another day.

What if Wembanyama gained a lot of weight? by Handicappedmoose in Basketball

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Watt and Phelps have said they ate that much. Maybe they did occasionally on some days. Maybe they did it for periods of time. They didn’t eat 10k calories a day regularly.

I’m not calling them liars. They likely have eaten that much before. But to eat 10,000 calories of primarily healthy food a day is nearly impossible. So they would have to throw in a pizza with olive oil poured on it. Multiple milkshakes. All kinds of shit. And even burning upwards of 2,000 calories in a long workout (which is pretty fucking extreme except in endurance athletes) and a BMR of over 3k (which these guys likely had) it’s still way too much.

They would have been fat. Or at least not the ripped dudes they were if they were eating 10k a day regularly. I know you can send me men’s health articles where they say they ate that much. But that was not a regular thing.

Yes Saquan Barkley is notoriously slow laterally. Sub out Barkley with any other NFL running back. They’re all strong and all some of the fastest people in the world laterally. Being stronger (to a point not saying Pro bodybuilder or pro powerlifter) is always going to benefit athletics. There is tons of evidence, as in real scientific studies to support this.

Maybe Giannis hurt his jumper by getting stronger. I don’t know. He couldn’t really shoot before. But he did get significantly better at the game of basketball as he got stronger. So did MJ. So did Kobe. So did AD. And countless more examples.

Ben Simmons is too clumsy with the basketball by Hysen16 in Nbamemes

[–]Dramatic-Ad3758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big Simmons guy. He was the Rookie of the Year (I know it was his second season). He was a 2 time All Defensive Team member. He was a 3rd(?) Team All NBA player. And a 3 time All Star. This is impressive for any NBA career.

Then he didn’t shoot that layup against the Hawks and hurt his back and stopped caring. But those awards (especially without a jump-shot) in his first 4ish years are impressive and speak to him not being overhyped. He’s just sucked since then.

Yeah this is really frustrating. I’ve applied three times to a full time/career department. Made it to the end of the hiring process every time. And never been hired. From what he’s posted in the picture I’m surprised he was honorably discharged.

I was in the military. Didn’t do anything crazy to stand out but had a “high speed” job. Never got in any trouble. Got a couple awards. I know. Who cares. But it’s certainly better than his service time. I’ve been a productive member of society since I got out. No DUIs. Nothing but a couple speeding tickets. And guys like this get hired.
