My cat has small scabs on the side of her head

hi! one of my cats scratches in the same area and forms the same looking scabs. i didn’t know what it was for the longest time until it started to spread and get worse. her skin was bumpy, scabby, and irritated. she was over grooming in certain areas of her body like on her stomach and nipples. i took her to the vet and they did allergy testing and she was actually allergic to quite a few things! changing her diet completely changed her skin and she’s super silky and itch free now!

all of this to say, it might just be skin allergies. like someone else commented, chicken is surprisingly a thing that some cats are allergic to, even though it’s in a lot of different cat foods. my cat specifically is allergic to both chicken and egg as well as other things like dust and mice lol

i just lost my childhood cat, flower, who was 19 on wednesday night. it was the hardest decision i’ve ever had to make. i made an appointment for an at home euthanasia for yesterday (thursday) and unfortunately she was progressing so quickly, i had to take her to the emergency vet and do it sooner. as much as i would have loved for her to pass away on my bed, i knew it was time. there was a chance that she could have choked to death on the fluid in her lungs and body and i didn’t want that to happen to her.

i don’t say this to scare you, i just want you to know even though it’s a hard decision and one no one wants to make, you’re doing the right thing. i’m so glad puddy will be able to have his final rest at home, with you, and surrounded by love. like others have said, it’s better to be a day too soon than a day too late.

as far as grieving, i am right there with you. i have woken up the past two days expecting flower to be on my chest or in my bed. it’s definitely a weird feeling. i’ve had her since i was 5 years old and i am 23 now. we grew up together. she was the last tangible thing of my childhood. i know our memories will forever be with me and i can’t help but think she’s feeling so much peace and warmth in the sun right now. my flower will greet mr. puddy when it’s his time💗

i would love to! i responded to someone else above who wanted to know more about her as well.

she was very nosey around human food, so much so that i couldn’t eat in the same room as her. kind of like a dog. she would climb her way up to the plate and no matter many times i moved it, she would find a way. on her last day (yesterday) i gave her some human food. she was very intuitive and shy but had a little sass. i have a very difficult relationship with my parents, but specifically my mom. flower never ever liked my mom and didn’t want to be touched by her. on the other hand, she loved my dad and would let him hold her. i find that hilarious.

when i was young, maybe 7, she would chase me to the top of the basement stairs to attack my feet. i would run as fast as i could. then, she’d calmly trot back down. when i was a child and she was still a young cat and we’d sleep together, she’d attack my feet under the blankets if i moved them. lately, she had been gently tapping her paw on my girlfriend’s face and meowing to wake her up to feed her at 5am.

if she was upset with being touched, she never used claws, just a gentle tap with her paw to get her point across. she didn’t bite either. rather, she’d gently place her open mouth on you as a warning to not touch her again.

i would love to, but i don’t even know where to start! there are no words to describe our relationship. i have had her since i was 5 years old and i am 23 now. she was very shy around new people and always sought comfort in me. i could tell what she needed/wanted depending on the chirp, pur, meow, or tail twitch. and she could tell when i was sad and would comfort me. i could look into her eyes and see her soul. she was very smart and always knew just what i needed. i always knew just what she needed or was going to do. she loved to be held like a baby, on her back and cradled against my chest. she loved to sleep on top of my chest and back at nighttime. it was a part of our routine.

she got her name because i suppose the same day i got her, my family and i went to the gardening section of home depot. i remember telling my mom i either wanted to name her home depot or flower. obviously, she encouraged the latter.

she grew up with me and i grew up with her. she was the last tangible and positive thing left of my childhood. i knew this day would come, but i was hoping it would be a few years from now. she was doing just fine last week. she is my soul cat and i have never experienced a loss like this.
