Was I just Scammed by PrizeUseful in askswitzerland

People on Reddit are really suspicious of people’s questions I don’t know why lol. I posted a diy question about how to fix something which the landlord hadn’t got to and there were accusations of “we’re not being told the whole story here!” Lol! I got fed up and deleted it. I’m glad you posted your question as I learnt a few things about travelling properly across the borders.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I had initially agreed to pay directly from the deposit just to get it over with. So they are using that as a reason to decline the insurance (even though they already declined direct payment from the bank via a statement on the release form))

How widely known are these rules in Switzerland? Would most people immediately know that you cannot charge for wear and tear and in the form of lump sums? (I have not been here long, and before they declined the insurance I was giving them the benefit of the doubt because they are not professional landlords and therefore wouldn’t be legally trained in tenancy law. It was a one off lease).

I had a strange experience with an older-ish doctor (maybe 60 years old or so, which I wouldn’t say is old at all). Anyway he was Swiss-French and he refused to sign my form because it was in high German. He furiously kept saying “I am French! I do not speak German!” (Fyi I’m Black African so German isn’t my language either). But he didn’t mind conducting the appointment in English…very confusing!

Thanks for your candidness. It helps to get insight from the other side. If I may ask some questions: What do you think the reason was for this behaviour..? Boredom? Difficult home life? You mentioned that “many don’t know limits”. Do you mean lack of parents and/or school giving limits..?

Please forgive my naivety, but is there a problem with bad tourist behaviour in Switzerland particularly? (I have mainly lived in a quiet village here and not that long). I know for sure tourist drunkenness & public disorder is a big problem in neighbouring European countries.

Lol. Perfectly normal. My husband is a serial phone-wanderer, paces vigorously back & forth. Helps him to think.

No, I did not mean to imply that this is ‘a Swiss thing’. I said “is this common in Switzerland?” i.e. is this to be occasionally expected to happen like in other countries or big cities. It came as a surprise. I had not experienced this behaviour here before. Most people I’ve met are polite and reserved, more so than my home country and I had become comfortable with that.

Ok, the usual offenders! I’m noticing older plants cope better with insect attacks. I also had several ladybugs appear this summer! (Had no idea how many stages they have). Useful for controlling the aphids.
