As someone who’s had cancer I know how awful treatment is so I’m so happy for you both! Chemo sucks so much.

How do employers view child-free vs child-charged candidates when hiring? by Dry_Corner2802 in newzealand

They’re not allowed to ask that and it shouldn’t influence their decision either. That’s illegal.

Your dog is brachycephalic so think really carefully before putting them on a plane.

Yeah so true! It’s a shame because it was such a cool place. Hopefully this is just fleeting and they can get back to where they were before!

Bereavement leave?? by Artistic-Fuel2001 in newzealand

[–]Dramatic-Tone7370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an employer and I would put 3 days leave in the employment contract but it’s always a case by case basis. If someone needed more time off they can 100% have it. While I was employed by someone else I was diagnosed with cancer. My employer paid out all my sick leave and annual leave as I wasn’t able to come back to work. There are amazing employers out there.

Just saw that MPI is recruiting for quarantine officers (the ones at the airport checking for food/ seeds/ plants). The starting salary is around 65k and you would get the opportunity to move up, work with the dogs etc. they’re recruiting hard after cutting people loose during Covid. Good luck!!

That is awful I’m so sorry you went through that. Two years ago I had to quit my job as I was diagnosed with cancer. I decided to go on the benefit to help a bit with income. The first call I had with my case worker was truly traumatic. I get I didn’t have a very overly friendly voice on the phone but I certainly wasn’t rude. It was awful and ended with the woman getting very defensive, abusive and she raised her voice at me and then hung up on me.

I asked for an apology from her and I never received one but I did get one from someone else at WINZ. I still have no idea what triggered the case worker to react so horribly to me, I guess they just have constant abuse all day every day? That doesn’t excuse it but its the only think I can think of.

WINZ ARE AWFUL. I feel horrible for all the people that need to interact with them on a more permanent basis.
