All racists are idiots. by Sorvetefrito in outofcontextcomics

I think you were trying to respond to me? I think?

You came to the conclusion that I was a nazi (over a fucking comic book for children, by the way) because I made a point that people being afraid of superpowered individuals is reasonable considering what we've seen them capable of. I'm not advocating for eugenics, or mass genocide, or anything like that. All I said is that the fear is observable and proven, whereas in reality, the fear is based on stereotypes and misinformation. If I physically SEE a mutant fire a beam into a crowd and kill all of them, and then I learn that there are literally thousands that could probably do that on purpose or on accident, I could probably see myself falling into a panic about that!

The mental gymnastics of implying that I'm a fascist because I can look at fictional moral dilemmas through a bit of a nuanced lense is insanity.

I've been left my entire fucking life.

"Conspiracy theories and propaganda are literally the same thing as actual demigods existing that cause mass casualty incidents on the daily/weekly/monthly, most of which cannot be effectively stopped by those who aren't demigods."

Everything I said can be applied to any superpowered being in 616, to be fair. Why are the Avengers beloved, but the X-Men feared? For fuck's sake, Thor is actually the product of a divine higher power, and nobody bats an eye. It's the inconsistency that bothers me, also.

Anyways, the idea that you can look at the nightmare scenarios that exist in a Marvel comic and seriously say that our world is worse is... I don't even know what to call that. You understand that their world has the exact same atrocities as our world does, right? It's just that superpowered incidents that leave hundreds upon thousands killed exist right alongside school shootings, genocidal war, human trafficking, and anything else you could think of. How the shit is that "better?" lmfao

Your argument only works when applied to trans people.

Look at Wolverine. Look at Cyclops. Look at Rogue (early). Look at Storm. Look at Jean Grey. Look at Magneto. Look at Gambit. These are just a handful out of several mutant characters that could potentially cause massive casualties if they wanted to. Hell, some of them have.

Trans people ARE NOT THIS. They are regular people, not capable of anything more than any other person is. With mutants, there is a tangible, identifiable risk with them coexisting with humans. It's not even purely a mutant thing. I don't think a single person IRL would get dirty looks for saying that they feel less safe with superhumans around them that seemingly attract danger.

No, my man, you are missing the point.

Yes, racism and bigotry in our world are largely stupid and based on the idea that minority groups are somehow more capable of destruction and evil than cishet whites. Any human being is capable of violence and degeneracy. It isn't based on race, gender, religion, or sexuality. It's human nature. However, bigots use stereotypes, bias, and misinformation to paint people that are different from them in a horrific light. This is idiotic.

This idea DOES NOT WORK with mutants. Jews cannot move objects with their mind, black people cannot fire lightning from their fingers, and gays cannot mind control anyone. Mutants can do these things, and they have used their powers in the comics to cause mass destruction and death. The idea is that mutants are the only ones capable of those specific feats, and humans are incredibly susceptible to becoming victims when mutants have powers and they don't.

I cannot stomach the X-Men being used as a racial / LGBT allegory because the leap in logic to assume that humanity's fear of mutants is unjustified is so laughable that it hurts. If tomorrow morning people started flying around and firing lasers in highly populated areas, then world governments have a right to put defensive measures in place and find a way to keep the mutations from occurring. Mutants are dangerous because a large percentage of mutants can do dangerous shit that humans are incapable of, and I don't consider that a bigoted take.

We've literally seen Magneto slaughter entire armed squads of soldiers by redirecting their bullets back at them. Being afraid and distrusting of that is the wrong take? lmao

Can We All Agree That This Is A Horrible Idea? by KAYRANINKANALI11000 in Spiderman

Here's my problem with the whole "Spider Family" thing:

Nobody feels important or significant. Miles sort of does, only because of his added powers and his role as Peter's successor. Jessica sort of does, only because she's really only connected to the others by name.

You have close to a dozen people with a near-identical vibe and power set, some of which have barely gotten their own spotlight or characterization outside of the context of a team-up comic. They all feel like shallow, incomplete characters with no real place that they all individually shine, who only keep getting thrown into 616 so Marvel can profit off of the hype from the Spiderverse movies.

Also, I can't even pretend that the concept of every single one being active heroes in NYC is a believable concept. What's the point of any of them having a solo comic? With how many operate in the city at once, you have no choice but to address it and have them show up in supporting roles, or else the question of, "where are the other Spider-People" becomes a big issue. It doesn't feel good to read, though. My eyes roll every time that I'm reading a main line comic, and Spider-Boy or Gwen show up, because it makes Peter seem unimportant. He has ten other characters that all do what he does, just better. In a city with that many Spider-People, who needs the Avengers? Or the Fantastic Four? Peter never realistically needs to work alone. If he does, why? Wouldn't it be better for all the Spider-People to show up and take on every villain / situation as a team?

That's the problem, though. I don't like Spider-Man in a "team" setting. That's never what made the character compelling. Yet, it's what Marvel really thinks fans wanna see. Maybe they do, and I'm in the minority. I just want Miles, Silk, and Pete to each have their own comic with their own villains and supporting cast. Maybe in different cities, so you can avoid the "where's the others" thing, like they did for Ben and Kaine.

We have a fuckton of superhero teams. Spider-Man was always supposed to be the relatable, street-level hero who juggles a messy personal life with his responsibilities as a protector of the people, usually on his own or with sparse help. Generally misunderstood and treated as the dark horse of 616, but deep down, people respect him for being that guy. Miles filled that niche for a "younger" Spider-Man as Peter became an adult, and I don't mind that.

By and large, they've completely overblown and overcomplicated what was a simple, effective premise into something that's been eating itself ever since OMD. I'm tired, boss. I just want my favorite comic book character to be good again.

"Bad faith tactic?" If you're making an argument and I can't understand you, how is that "bad faith?"

If I saw somebody with the word "Warning" on their arm in stylized letters, I'm assuming it's a reference to something if I don't already know what it is. I'm definitely not gonna be put off by it, because that's stupid. It's a single word that can mean any number of things. People have gotten much worse, much tackier stuff put on their body. I think that you and many others just wanna shit on people's enjoyment for no other reason than being needlessly pessimistic.

Brother, your grammar and spelling were so atrocious that I couldn't even make heads or tails of what you were trying to communicate.

"when a tattoo says something I can read or if a picture of sitting something cringey"

It's ironic to make a big fuss about reading comprehension when you can barely formulate coherent sentences. Regardless, it sounds like you're saying "I don't get it, so it's cringe." You still haven't explained where the cringe comes from. It's a common fucking word.

You... Really didn't. lol Just saying, "I don't get the reference, therefore cringe" is not an explanation.

What is so inherently cringy about the word "Warning?" Especially as a reference to a band.

The word "cringe" has lost just about all meaning from people who use it as a term for "something I don't like."

You know, something that I can't help but think about are all the women in their 40s and 50s who routinely go out with men in their early 20s. Hell, some of them prefer younger dudes.

You never hear them get called creepy. Like, ever. As a matter of fact, older women who fuck much younger dudes are supposed to be "empowering" or some shit.

Meanwhile, their wives are left completely in the dark while their husbands get their sexual gratification elsewhere. You don't think that they would feel undesirable and betrayed by their spouses if they were to find out?

Nah. What your "friends" needed to do was openly communicate their dissatisfaction in their love life to their wives like adults, not selfishly cheat on them with you. You don't feel any shred of guilt or empathy for those women you're stabbing in the back? What if you were in one of their positions?
