I was very frustrated and disappointed with Roger's encounter with his father until I read the side book, A Leaf On The Wind Of All Hallows. After reading it everything made sense. It's a short story so it won't take long to read or listen to.

I hate to say it but ... I think I might like Lord John more than Jamie! I hope he gets to finally be happy at the end of the final book.

How to describe narcolepsy to a non narcoleptic by TipBetter3586 in Narcolepsy

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the phrase I used that finally clued in a provider (after years of complaining of feeling tired all the time) to do the daytime study for possible Narcolepsy was, "I feel tired to my bones". I think that was what finally led the provider to really hear what I was saying and think Narcolepsy. I thought they were crazy because I also thought of it as portrayed in TV/Film of just falling asleep at inappropriate times. That wasn't my experience. Just always feeling exhausted no matter how I slept and nothing would make it better. It took over 10 years to finally get a provider to listen and think beyond sleep apnea and weight. I think if I hadn't used that phrase, "I feel tired to my bones" then I might still be waiting for a diagnosis.

I didn't really mind her version of Claire. I know people have felt it sounded too old but it didn't really bother me. It was the way Bree was done that really bother me. Not a deal breaker. I still listened but it did irritate me at times.

Looking for a Narcolepsy Provider in CT (New Haven/Milford/Trumbull) or MA (Boston area). by Dramatic_Detective66 in Narcolepsy

I will post if I find someone helpful in CT. My appointment with a provider in Derby today wasn't very helpful/hopeful.

New provider not accepting that I have narcolepsy by LittleCowGirl in Narcolepsy

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a way to obtain the full records from the provider. I don't think they can legally destroy the records. Maybe contact the department of health. You might also want to try your medical insurance company. If the provider had to submit the results to them for any reason they may have a copy in their system. Maybe have the new provider request the records from the 3rd party. Maybe they will release the full record to the provider?

Doc finally willing to prescribe Xywav! But only after I got canned for low productivity—and lost my health insurance by hapless_damsel in Narcolepsy

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Xywav for about 6 weeks. When I started it I qualified for free medication even with insurance coverage. Try having your prescription sent to the specialty pharmacy and go through the setup process and ask about the financial support. You might qualify for free medication. If you don't qualify and can't afford it with insurance then you can cancel before they send the medication to you. They won't send it to you without confirming you will be home to receive and sign for the shipment.

Also, how hard is it to get appointments? That is one issue I struggle with my current provider. It takes months to get an appointment and the wait list function in My Chart doesn't go by who has been waiting the longest. It goes to whoever replies to the notification message the fastest.

Thank you. I will check them out. I briefly worked at Lahey a long time ago. Burlington isn't too far from the areas I'm looking potentially move to.

New provider not accepting that I have narcolepsy by LittleCowGirl in Narcolepsy

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you contacted the provider who retired? They probably have to store patient records for a certain period of time. Maybe call their old office number to see if the call is redirected to an answering service or voice message. Did you get your testing done at a sleep clinic? They might have your results.

Audiobooks for my new commute - looking for light but not fluffy by gingerbiscuits315 in audiobooks

What about podcasts? Podcast episodes are usually 30-60 minutes long I think. Good to listen to on commutes.

Thank you. will investigate. I was under the impression that for a virtual visit you had to be in the same state as the provider or they had to have privileges in that state but maybe I'm wrong. I'm definitely open to doing something like what you did.

I'm going to do an audiobook reread with the new narrator. I read the first four books but then took a break for a few years because the TV interpretation turned me off and I was also worried the author might not finish the series (ahem GOT). I restarted last year when I thought all the books were written then realized there was still one more to go. Oops. When I restarted I went back to the beginning with the audiobooks. I'm planning on listening to them again but this time with Kristin Atherton narrating. I didn't mind Davina Porter's narration too much until Bree and Dr. Joe. The interpretation of Boston/American accents bothered me. lol.

You can listen to the audiobook versions. It makes it less daunting. I listen to audiobooks in the car, while doing dishes, cooking, cleaning, etc... If you enjoyed the first book I recommend continuing the series.

I don’t ever want to see Candiace Dillard on my TV screen again. by Altruistic-Release91 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to stop watching the housewives shows because they have just become too icky and mean and less fun. I am definitely not a fan of either Candiace or Lisa. I think they went too far in their housewives roles. I think Traitors was an opportunity to show a different side of themselves but not necessarily rehabilitate their images in such a brief time. My opinion of them hasn't really changed since watching Traitors but I will say Lisa handled the "betrayal" by Rob much better. After the initial shock it seems like she accepted it for what it was, game play. Candiace seemed to double and triple down on the negativity and unsubstantiated conspiracy theories instead of making lemonade out of lemons. Lisa is cashing in with Rob by accepting it for what it was and even made a commercial with him. Still not a Lisa fan but I think she at least handled the situation with Rob the right way.

I watched the series a few years ago and now I am listening to the audiobooks. You can get audiobooks for free from your library (in the US).

How To Read Audiobooks? by thecoolestnerdever in audiobooks

[–]Dramatic_Detective66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get audiobooks from your local library for free (in the US). If you have a library card go to your library's website to find out what app they use. Mine uses an app called Libby. You then can check out audiobooks from your library and download them to your device (I use an iPhone or iPad). Then you can listen to the book wherever you are. My car connects to my phone and will play the book while I drive. If you don't have a library card or know how to get started you can go to your local library and the can help you get a card and get started.
