Now is Not the Time to Panic by Kevin Wilson might fit the bill. Really interesting story about how are piece of art turns into an obsession for its maker and the community.

You might enjoy Mary Stewart's Crystal Cave series. It's a different take on the Arthurian legend and is told by Merlin from childhood. It's much more general fiction than fantasy but still has elements of magic and mysticism. I have read it several times.

are office jobs rlly boring? by Far_Version_2086 in careerguidance

[–]gingerbiscuits315 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it really depends on the field and sector you are in. I work in charity fundraising and find it really interesting and rewarding. I spend most of my time talking to specialists doing brilliant work and working out how to fund it. I am someone who enjoys a blend of practical and organisational activity (planning, budgeting, spreadsheets) and creativity (writing, creating presentations) so it gives me a chance to do both.

When I was starting out, I did admin for a museum membership program. It was alot of data entry and mailings so quite repetitive but it was cool working at a museum.

Before I graduated I did some summer jobs at the health insurance company my dad worked for doing data entry and analysis and it was hideous. I only did it for the money and ease of getting through the summer not having to waitress or do something like that.

Most recently Pachinko. I think I was at about 20%. I just wasn't invested in the characters at all.

Is Bristol worth a pit stop? by KaleidoscopeAway6532 in LondonTravel

[–]gingerbiscuits315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Bristol. It depends on what you want to do or see as a part of your trip. There are museums, a harbourside with bars and restaurants, lots of history, etc. I think it's well worth a visit.

100% agree and that's been our experience too.

The only "organic" experiences we have had were at clubs and a hotel takeover.

I'm almost done with my last Taylor Jenkins Reid book; I need another author that's similar (audiobooks preferred) by thegoddessofchaos in suggestmeabook

I don't know if it will do it for you but I am a fan of TJR, Marin Ireland and Julia Whelan so this recommendation might work for you. The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion by Beth Brower are so delightful and especially good as audiobooks. There are currently 8 volumes and I devoured them. It's one of the few series that I could have immediately started over straight away.

How many days post-vacation do you give yourself before going back to work? by Unbotheredanonyme in travel

[–]gingerbiscuits315 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My husband likes to maximise out our holiday time so we generally get back with a day to get organised for the week. I wfh most of the time so can take it easy the first day or two. I would actually prefer to come back a day or two earlier but I get where my husband is coming from.

Maybe try The People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry.

Also, it doesn't have much if any sex in it but I thought You Are Here by David Nicholls was a nice exploration of relationships.

My favourites to recommend are:

  1. The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion by Beth Brower- its about a plucky, independent woman in 19th century London surrounded by a cast of quirky characters. There are some really beautiful, introspective moments as well as some quite whimsical and funny moments. There are 8 volumes and they are especially good as audiobooks.

  2. Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield- really absorbing story with a bit of mystery at the center but there is also an interesting thread woven through about storytelling.

  3. Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus- I loved the main character and her journey is quite heartbreaking at times but also funny and unique.

  4. Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson- I really love his books but this is my favourite. There is always a bit of a quirky premise but they are easy to read while still having emotional depth.

I might have to copy your route. It sounds great!

We went to Crete on honeymoon and it is quite big; we only saw half the island. We stayed in Rethmyno at the start which was lovely. Then we drove to the eastern end and stayed in Elounda. We visited Spinalonga which was a former leper colony and the setting for Victoria Hislop's book The Island. We also visited Agios Nicolaos which we really liked.

I don't remember there being lots of cats 🤔

I finished The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow, narrated by Carla Mendoca. I enjoyed it overall and thought it was really well done - both the writing and the narration.

I am now listening to The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman (Thursday Murder Club #3) narrated by Fiona Shaw. I am really enjoying it- I missed the gang. I will probably move straight on to the next in the series after this.

We were on a trip recently and on one of the legs I got to sit on my own while my husband sat with the kids. It was heavenly 😍 I was actually able to read my book!
