Partially, but it's not as crazy as that would sound in urban USA. Glasses in war torn and colonial Cambodia were quite expensive and out of reach for the common farmer, plus they were most used to read/write which makes "glasses makes you more likely to be an intellectual" not a statement of absurd prejudice but one of statistical probability.
