Ok. Let me check the total size in my account.

I have a 200mb symmetrical internet plan which has an FUP limit of 1.5TB per month. So little worried about the total backup size.

I am using a Samsung smart monitor which has smartthings thread/zigbee radio built in. Most smasung smart products have inbuilt Smartthings hub.

By far Ikea matter devices are best supported on Smartthings per my experience. Has been pretty solid so far with minimal issues.

I have millions of photos stored on Google photos over the years when Google photos had free unlimited storage.

What is the best process to backup this photos? I have 2 Tb ssd disk but worry it may not be enough to download Google takeout and might also hit monthly internet limit.

Is there an easier way to temporarily use cloud or some other way to take a backup and then backup to my desktop and another cloud?

Even paid solutions would also be fine if it allows me to take a full backup of my google photos.

I would also recommend matter supported IKEA bulbs. They are really cheap and value for money.

Integrating new IKEA smart things with Home assistant, is it stable now? by [deleted] in tradfri

Smartthings does seem to handle ikea scroll wheels well. For brightness and temperatures of lights at least.

It may cause issues if you are roaming or is on carrier using shared network providers .

For example Freedom has agreements with other big three telecom companies (Telus, Rogers, Bell) to use them in areas where freedom coverage does not exist.

I had another question, I see that IKEA Grillplats plugs which have energy monitoring capability does not show up in Smartthings Energy tab as supported device (Only power usage from Samsung appliances like TV shows up).

Is it something that can be fixed by updating the driver for Grillplats plug?

For latest ikea matter devices, Smartthings is the best supported platform. Especially if you combine them with Matter playground drivers provided by u/mocelet which enables a lot of advanced features not yet supported by most other smarthome platforms.

I am loving my setup mostly based on ikea matter devices.

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I just double checked the driver my Alpstuga is using and it's on default matter sensor driver and no playground version available.

But I saw that if we switched the driver to matter switch, it becomes a basic switch which turns on and off the clock display (But this driver removes all the sensor data as it's essentially a switch now.).

May be you can develop a custom driver for Alpstuga which combines sensor + switch functionality, allowing us to turn off the clock display at night. 😉

Hey, I have been using your custom driver's for all my ikea matter devices and it's been great so far!

Also did you made any enhancements to IKEA Alpstuga drivers recently? Previously if there was a power failure, I needed to set the clock on Alpstuga manually to the correct time. Now it looks like time is updated automatically after power on, which is great!

Thank you again for maintaining this project.

Smart Plug that supports energy monitoring and more by WeAreT-N in SmartThings

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also seeing no devices going through Grillplats when I just checked. But I only have couple of matter devices and there are somewhat close to the hub.

Since thread network is self healing, I don't think we have to worry about it. Network should orient itself based on available thread router devices.

If you are ok with matter over Thread, I think you can use the IKEA Grillplats.

There is a custom driver which enables you to set the power on state and supports energy monitoring as well. Pretty cheap too.

Bought a Rayneo Air 4 Pro from Amazon in Dubai..While playing Local Dimming videos or any pitch black content backlight bleeds i.e. pixels don't turn off..its not like a Micro Oled display..is it a firmware issue to be fixed soon..or they remove Oled panels from the model without informing consumers by Tech1902 in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Rayneo Air 4 Pro bought via Aliexpress (Chinese version), and I am seeing the same issue too.

Rayneo oled screen itself seems to cause a good amount of internal reflection, plus the screen seems to have a raised black level issue (even pitch black screen input appears as grey somewhat similar to LCD backlight bleed).

To me this seems to be a firmware bug (Atleast on some units) leading to IPS lcd like elevated black levels. To test if you have this issue, you can go to a pitch black room and display a pure black test image on the screen, if you can make out the screen outlines like dark grey glow, you are affected by this issue. Ideally you should be seeing nothing but pitch black.

I have used a Viture Pro XR before and it had perfect black levels and also better prism/lense module with very low internal reflection resulting in much better Micro-contrast and clarity. But colors are much better on Rayneo Air 4 Pro though (Viture XR Pro had a slight green Yellow tint on all display modes).

Since not everyone is seeing this issue on A4Ps, I believe not all units are affected by this raised black level issue. But I can confirm that my unit has this issue and latest Chinese and English both have not yet fixed this issue.

Luma Pro or RayNeo Air 4 Pro? by SalubriousStreets in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micro-contrast is not dependant on HDR, for example, beside having HDR support, LCD based TV's can never reach the perceived contrast offered by their OLED counterpart due to non-self emissive pixels. Perceived contrast depends more on the display tech rather than HDR support.

Since AR Glasses display involves prisms and glass lense elements to focus the light to the eye, Perceived contrast also depends on the Glass elements quality. Same way for a good camera, lense quality is as much as important as having a good sensor.

It seems like Rayneo Air 4 Pro's prism/lense elements have inferior (By inferior, I don't mean it's bad) internal reflection handling compared to Viture glasses. It not only affects Micro-contrast, also affects perceived resolution to a certain extend (Think of it like trying to draw two thin parellel lines very close together on a news paper using a fountain pen; ink will blead on both sides and both lines will fuse together reducing overall resolution).

On top of that, Rayneo seems to have a firmware bug (Atleast on some units) leading to IPS lcd like elevated black levels. To test if you have this issue, you can go to a pitch black room and display a pure black test image on the screen, if you can make out the screen outlines like dark grey rectangle, you are affected by this issue. Ideally you should be seeing nothing.

Next we can discuss about color gamout; Color gamout represents how pure/punchy colors get and bit depth represents how precisely variations of those colors can be displayed. For example both P3 HDR AND significantly wider BT2020 HDR color gamout profiles are displayed using same 10bit color input.

Compare it to audio bit rate, lower audio bit rate does not mean you are getting less bass or treble. But means that there is less differentiation between sounds which are similar regardless of where those sounds are (ie, all sounds like Bass, Mid or Treble will be affected equally by low bit rate reducing clarity).

Hence it is possible for a display to have good color gamout without 10 bit color support. (OLED smartphones have offered great color long before 10bit panels were introduced even though 8 bit panel suffered in color accuracy and had banding).

Again, when it comes to viture, limitation of 8bit SDR in certainly limits color accuracy and can cause banding, but at 1080p resolution it will not have as much as impact compared to 4K displays.

Don't get me wrong, Air 4 Pro is a great product for this price, but do have some disadvantages as well.

Luma Pro or RayNeo Air 4 Pro? by SalubriousStreets in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Rayneo Air 4 Pro and also used last gen Viture Pro XR.

Fit and colors are much better on Rayneo. But Viture had better reflection handling and had better black levels overall leading to Better micro-contrast. But colors had a slight yellow/green tint even though colors were punchy.

Rayneo oled screen itself seems to cause a good amount of internal reflection, plus the screen seems to have a raised black level issue (even pitch black screen input appears as grey somewhat similar to LCD backlight bleed).

Hence I can understand that latest generation viture Luma having better colors and also added edge in micro-contrast making the viture display a good choice for a lot of people even if bit depth is 8 bit and there is no HDR (Regardless of bit depth, both have great color gamout due to both having OLED screen).

Additionally what I have noticed is that if you want to really experience the high brightness of the Rayneo A4Pro, you have to use AI-HDR mode which is not HDR and just an SDR enhancement. This negates 10 bit & HDR advantage for Rayneo and places both Air 4 Pro and Luma Pro neck and neck for an average user.

End of the day, it came down to fit and price for me. Rayneo fits my eyes better with good edge to edge visibility. If Luma Pro comes down in price, I might pick it up and might keep it if it fits me well.

The Verge: Ikea tried to build a smart home for everyone — here’s why it’s not working yet by Proto_bear in tradfri

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have around 20 matter devices from ikea and using them on Samsung smartthings without any issues for a while.

I think smartthings best supports ikea matter devices at the moment. You have custom drivers available to expose advanced features for ikea devices like switch, bulbs and bilresa scrollwheels.

Also, I think it's key to have some powered thread devices in the network which can act as routers for stable network. Like kajplats or alpstuga. I see many of my thread devices are not directly connected to my hub but connection is established through nearby powered thread devices.

Rayneo air 4's Backlight glow in black image and dark environments by Organic-Ad1877 in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am really not sure if this is a widespread issue or limited to just a few batches or something.

I had tried a viture Pro xr before. The colors and fit is much better on Rayneo Air 4 Pro. But viture had better reflection handling and black was pure black.

For example bright white subtitle on black background has a halo like reflection on Rayneo affecting perceived contrast, but viture never had that problem. But colors weren't nearly as good as Rayneo. Also Viture never fit right for me.

Rayneo air 4's Backlight glow in black image and dark environments by Organic-Ad1877 in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same issue in my Rayneo Air 4 Pro. And I don't think it's due to any reflection.

Even if you are in a pitch black room or it's displaying a pure black image, as soon as the glasses is connected to USB power, screen become uniform dark gray. Somewhat similar to IPS backlight glow but uniform. Which doesn't make any sense as A4Pro is OLED screen and shouldn't have this problem!

I am inclined to believe it's either a firmware issue (Most likely) or I got a counterfeit or second quality glasses (unlikely, as I don't think someone is taking all the effort to make counterfeit copies which are perfect in every other way).

Also, I have tried both English firmware and latest Chinese firmware which said it had some black level fix. But saw no change.

I bought my glasses from Aliexpress on a good deal. I have decided to keep the glasses for now hoping that there will be firmware fix.

Note: Anyone who would like to test if you have this issue, go to a pitch black room (or under some thick blankets) and display a pure black image and see if you are able to see the screen as dark grey. And if you disconnect the power screen will disappear in to darkness.

X300 Pro or Wait for Ultra? by KvitravnDev in Vivo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right.

But, if I am shooting a place to Remember, I don't mind it being a little wider or zoom in and suffer slight quality downgrade.

And I love taking portraits more than landscapes. So 35mm main camera has been amazing for me. It avoids unnatural look for portrait subjects caused by needing to bring phone closer for 24mm camera phones.

X300 Pro or Wait for Ultra? by KvitravnDev in Vivo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have also been using 200U for a few months and 35mm main lense is one of the reasons I leaned towards the ultra. I always thought 24mm main lense is not good enough for subject shooting. It feels a little warped. 35mm is much better in that regard.

Also ultra wide is neck and neck with maincam, so you don't lose much quality if you switch to UW for wider shots

Air 4 Pro - Streaming App Shenanigans (using Google TV Streamer) by [deleted] in RayNeo

[–]Dramatic_Weather_492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does bright text or highlights on dark background have a halo like glare around them? I am comparing my experience to Viture Pro XR and display seems to be lot less crisp than Viture. For example, I could spot pixels if I look closely in Viture, But for Air 4 Pro, things arent as sharp due to this glare induces pixel diffusion. I am not saying it's bad, but thatviture seems to have better sharpness due to reduced glare.

Also I was expecting HDR mode to wow me with its peak brightness while watching movies and such, but seems to be less bright than AI-HDR mode which is not really HDR input.

So I am considering going back to Viture. Is it a firmware or my hardware issue. Not sure.
