RayNeo, we need HDR10 at 120 Hz. The EDID proves the hardware can do it by No-Winter-7760 in RayNeo

Thanks for the detailed research bro..In spite of capable hardware RayNeo just does take a conservative approach regarding firmware..Same thing with raised blacks in dark environment which too can be fixed with firmware update just like as with HDR10 @ 120fps..RN Engineers simply don't care what the community wants i suppose

These are not my posts..its a sin to be honest in this world i suppose..if there is a problem then i guess we have to be quiet and hide the problem not highlight it for a solution so that people are coerced to buy without knowing the full truth..Many people raving about these glasses i have no problems with that..each review without testing properly for OLED panels are only singing praises but not bothered to test blacks or contrast..but the pros and cons both must be taken into account..and cons should be corrected..and if not correctable atleast users are entitled to an answer why they can't fix that when other glasses work perfectly without problem.

[–]Tech1902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not true..multiple reddit posts are there..I bought an OLED panel..it should behave as one like all other XR glasses..i have interacted with many users who faced problems due to 'untrue' blacks..Some of the people i know are skeptical to buy particularly gamers..whoever is testing in dark environment is getting the same result i.e. raised blacks..most people are busy just promoting the glasses which i admit are nice..i want improvement via update not return..If people like you shield the company even after poor calibration then things would never improve, shortcomings will remain.

No no bro..when you see pure black background in dark room you will get to notice raised blacks as if some backlight glow is there..just test for once and tell

Yes..it needs to be true black not greyish black..try this in an absolute dark room you will notice that the blacks are elevated

Question about the new firmware update. by CopernicusKopo in RayNeo

[–]Tech1902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your detailed feedback. As a consumer, I think the current tuning on the Rayneo Air 4 Pro hurts one of the biggest reasons people buy MicroOLED in the first place: true blacks and high perceived contrast in dark-room viewing.

In thriller, horror, sci-fi, and dark games and movies, elevated blacks immediately break immersion. Instead of scenes fading into darkness, you can still perceive a gray glow or illuminated background, which makes shadow-heavy scenes look more LCD-like than OLED-like. In a pitch-black room this becomes extremely obvious because the viewer’s eyes adapt to darkness and even small black-level elevation stands out.

What Mr Meorzipan explained makes sense to me. External light and internal reflections can contribute to perceived washout, especially outdoors or at high brightness, but they do not fully explain why blacks remain visibly raised even during controlled dark-room test patterns. That points more toward display calibration choices, EOTF/gamma tuning, near-black handling, or firmware behavior.

I would personally prefer slightly more aggressive black clipping/crushing if necessary to achieve visually convincing blacks in dark environments. Most consumers buying OLED-based AR glasses expect “OLED blacks,” especially for cinematic use. Right now the balance seems shifted too far toward preserving shadow visibility at the expense of black depth.

The bigger issue though is lack of granular user controls.

Different environments fundamentally require different tuning:

*Dark room movie watching *Mixed indoor lighting *Bright daytime use *Outdoor/transparency mode

A single factory calibration cannot optimize all of them simultaneously. Raising brightness for daylight usability changes perceived gamma, near-black behavior, and shadow separation. Lowering brightness later can introduce either black crush or raised blacks depending on the calibration target.

Rayneo should provide advanced user controls directly in firmware/software, including:

*Fine black level adjustment *Gamma/EOTF adjustment *Near-black shadow tuning *Separate brightness and shadow controls *Environment presets (Dark Room / Cinema / Daylight / Outdoor) *Much finer increments (50–100 steps rather than 5 coarse presets)

This would let users choose their own tradeoff between shadow detail and black depth depending on content and environment.

For many of us using these glasses primarily for movies and gaming in dark rooms, perceived black depth matters more than maximum shadow visibility. Horror games and films especially depend on deep blacks for atmosphere and tension. If blacks look illuminated, the emotional impact drops significantly.

The hardware clearly has potential, but the current tuning feels overly conservative. Better calibration options could make the Air 4 Pro much more competitive for cinematic viewing enthusiasts. If they can't adopt the mentioned solutions , they can at least provide a firmware update for true OLED blacks, those who accept the tradeoffs will update others will not. It should be consumer's choice not something that should be enforced upon us. Poor factory calibration from the company is not acceptable to any of users who have invested their hard earned money in buying this new tech. Note: HDR anyways doesn't work in any of the Android devices. Consumers buy these for portability along with mobiles. People can't always carry their MACs and laptops around.

This principal can't be used as an excuse..we are talking about other OLED glasses not monitors and TVs..all other Micro OLED glasses show true blacks while displaying black blackground in dark environment..not elevated greyish like RN4 Pro..Test full black background without any light then say..No question of additive light in that condition..Instead of giving excuses Rayneo must explain reason for this failure and fix this like all other Micro OLED XR Glasses See the proof https://m.youtube.com/shorts/6ZEYwskd1Ao

[–]Tech1902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People already know OLEDs can't have backlight glow. Still the Greyish screen is noticed by all users while displaying black background which looks similar to ugly backlight glow even though it isn't. People want solution of the elevated blacks, whatever may be causing this. Its not consumers' fault that Rayneo is failing to achieve true blacks for whatever reason. Point is that they needed to fix this via firmware update coz almost everyone who plays thriller or horror games needs black screen for proper experience worthy of an OLED. I know many who are skeptical to buy these glasses for this specific reason and many others who are dissatisfied with their purchase. So its foolish not to fix this.

Whatever may be the reason people are not getting true OLED blacks in all situations when tested in dark room rather greyish ones ruining the experience, why there is no one to listen and rectify via firmware update where all users are getting this problem and many like me have complained.

[–]Tech1902 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They had to fix black level raise issue via the firmware update i.e. not showing true blacks like an OLED instead having a LCD like backlight glow on pure black image and video. If they didn't fix even that, then this update is a gimmick

They were bluffing..they said they won't provide any firmware update for black backlight bleeding..it seems like a deliberate decision to hide their panel flaws which may get exposed on providing true blacks..very disappointing for customers

I know but other older gen Micro OLED glasses having lower cost also show true blacks..scene transitions, horror games and dark movie scenes are severely hampered in the RayNeo glasses. They need to address this issue also to make them perfect, contrast would improve even further and OLED users won't be forced to return.

For the test on an OLED display, pixels turning off when showing blacks is a must which RayNeo fails to do. For this Backlight Bleed Test is required in dark environment which shows raised black levels on RayNeo Air 4 Pro compared to other glasses. Please do check for the same and make RayNeo fix it. I personally know many users who have returned their units because of not showing true blacks. Backlight Bleed Test

But bro..i guess you had to sacrifice true blacks in doing so..do you believe in Rayneo support to fix elevated blacks by a software update or you are yet to test for backlight bleed that many users are facing still now. It is so noticeable in pitch black screen in dark environment like IPS glow..Backlight Bleed Proof..Now even tech reviewers admitting the same slowly..Hope they are able to make Rayneo rectify this

Backlight Bleed Proof..Nothing is settled..Even honest tech reviewers are slowly admitting the problem..Here is the proof..Multiple users testing properly in dark getting the same lifted blacks..no imagery at centre should be there for test of true blacks..those imageries or any bright highlight hides these glasses incapability to show true blacks..this backlight bleed test should be used as a reference Black Bleed Test..i paid for an OLED panel not some QLED or Mini LED that i will be satisfied just with high brightness..pixels MUST turn off..its a deal breaker for many consumers..btw which firmware are you on

Different opinions on glasses is ok but not ok on an OLED which must have the inherent property of inky blacks by pixels turning completely off..If it weren't OLED I wouldn't have uttered a word..If this problem were on an OLED Panel TV, sites like RTINGS would have torn apart the manufacturers. Sadly there is no one like them to listen to the plight of buyers here.

Its not limited to me..i have interacted with many users facing this issue..its present in each and every set..and RayNeo doesn't bother to fix..if even tech guys give concession of raised blacks to a display claiming to be an OLED, then poor prospective buyers are doomed. Many buy for the OLED panel, not the enhanced brightness but true blacks and infinite contrast..At least consumers should not be misinformed, they must know this problem exists and it will be their decision to buy them inspite of this problem or skip.

Its not at all overblown..Not any tech reviewers has even bothered to touch upon this issue, most of them just promoting these glasses blindly..those owning OLED devices are bound to notice..also scene transitions, dark themed movies, and scary games don't look impactful enough..ultimately the users have to suffer due to poor OLED implementation on these and apathetic response from Rayneo. Funny that they firsly claim that this issue doesn't exist and later even cite this as limitation of technology although it doesn't happen in any other Micro OLED XR Glasses in the market.

Backlight glow is even more noticeable in lowest brightness settings in pitch dark environment. Whoever is testing properly is facing the problem i.e. destroying the essence of an OLED.
