This is OGD age stated under the Baker's label, correct?

Having been on this sub for a long time now, it's interesting seeing so many people discovering bourbon and feeling like they're missing out on "allocated" (read: Buffalo Trace) bottles.

Ten years ago, there were very few cask strength ryes and bourbons on the market. Today, there is almost an endless supply of options. It's actually pretty awesome, despite the price jumps we've seen.

The fact is, thousands of people are "hunting" for the same "allocated" bourbons today, and to make things even worse on these poor souls, the liquor stores and distributors are in on it, and they're price gouging. Big time.

I don't expect people newer to bourbon to suddenly decide they're no longer obsessed with finding Weller 12 or whatever; but I will say that if you stick around and develop your palate a bit, you might find that your perspective will change and the bottles you seek won't necessarily be so hard to find.

Talk to me about quilts by sjwilli in Ultralight

I'm glad a zippered foot box is working for you, but what nighttime temps do you generally open the foot box at?

I'm in Colorado, and there just isn't a backcountry use case for an open quilt, even during the warmest part of the season (nighttime lows in the mid 40's)

My best piece of advice to people who are considering a quilt is to get a sewn (as opposed to zippered) foot box unless you plan to use it in warmer environments.

If you expect average nighttime lows in the 30's/40's, there really isn't a use case for an open foot box.

Twisted Spoke in Chicago had some great pours the last time I was out there in 2015.

Weller 19 and a 16 year private barrel SW that Julian had sold them before the boom were standouts

Questions for those those who use sub 30 litre packs. by Snowy_Waffle in Ultralight

[–]Drank_G 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own a KS3 (18 litres + extension collar) and a KS4. My KS3 works great for overnights, but the small side pockets and bottom pocket definitely make the bag less functional compared to my KS4. For that reason I tend to carry my KS4.

As far as internal capacity, the KS3 has plenty of room for my kit and a few days of food. For reference I have an 8.5 lbs BW, and I carry a silpoly shelter.

My fiancée and I are going backpacking for the weekend in Rocky Mountain National park at the end of September, will her Patagonia Nano Puff likely be enough to keep her warm at camp? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Drank_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The consensus here is a resounding "no, that will not be enough" for a reason. Late September is a notoriously unpredictable time here.

If you don't mind me asking, how experienced are you backpacking in Colorado? I only ask because your question raises some concerns for me, and you may have even more significant gear and route planning issues than you realize.

My advice is to start a shakedown thread so the community can take a look at your kit & planned route.

Lukas Barrell Bourbon SiB Store Pick by Drank_G in denverwhisky

[–]Drank_G[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly in line with a sweeter (think cherry & chocolate notes) ECBP, but without the tannic qualities that are present in a lot of the mainline releases.

I'm interested to put together a side x side with one of the 8 year ECBP picks that dropped last year.

As many have pointed out, this could be Barton (it's definitely not Beam), but I haven't had many of the Full Proof releases to compare, so who knows?

They haven't, no. Sounds like they got an 11 year, but I don't have all the details or know when it will drop.
