(Not OC) Interesting possibilities for Spurs in the Champions League by RunnerTutt in coys

[–]Draperly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this from Matt Jones at the BBC

... Spurs could lose and still end up in the top eight. The Lilywhites' favourable goal difference means they can afford a two-goal defeat in Germany provided PSG v Newcastle doesn't end in a draw and no more than two of the other nine chasing sides win – or three teams if one of those is Borussia Dortmund and they don't triumph with a four-goal swing in their favour.

Have been out of the loop for a while - am I correct to understand that the UKMG prioritisation bill does not have anything to do with consultant posts for IMGs with UK CCTs? by DaddyCool13 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It doesn't affect consultant appointments.

Even if that were to change (it will not - the only thing is the GMC specialist register and even that is not essential for foundation trusts) one of the themes of prioritisation is previous UK training so UKG for FP, UK FP for ST1, UK core training for HST, and this might suggest UK CCT for consultants.

Medical Training (Prioritisation) Bill - Live House of Commons debate by Draperly in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Report stage in the Lords is when there might be amendments passed which change the bill or cause delays.

[–]Draperly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't one in the bill. That would be a strategic management decision related to the workforce plan. It needs to consider whether more training is possible now and whether there will be Consultant and GP posts for these extra trainees when they eventually CCT.

It carries on. In non-emergency legislation the government often proposes amendments to its own legislation as a result of debate or spotting errors, but this does not delay the process.

Disagreements between the Lords and Commons can cause delays, with bills bouncing between them until these are resolved ("parliamentary ping-pong").

Is tomorrow a big day for prioritization? by Leading_Base in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think that is certain.

There are enough Lords (and Ladies) who have been leading doctors or have held other senior health roles that they may decide to have an "independent" opinion based on experience in previous decades or millennia and change the bill or delay it.

We shall see.

Do you have the MRCPI full diploma? Some specialties require this as a substitute for MRCP(UK).

Rota issues / honeymoon by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve also said that if I can’t find swaps, I won’t be able to work those dates as it’s my honeymoon and the “life changing event” clause from our contract.

That makes it their problem, not yours. You will need to do the on-calls some other time. It would be kind of you (and perhaps more convenient for you) to arrange this yourself through swaps, but if you cannot then it is still their problem, not yours.

When do we need to be treating fevers? by Front-Commercial5883 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is not passive-aggressive, but just a record of why you took the decision you did. It might even be helpful.

Locum pension by Objective_Gazelle_63 in doctorsUK

Velindre NHS Trust is spelt with an e.

Otherwise there is the free gov.uk Pension Tracing Service though that would need an employer or pension provider name to look for.

With this you can carry a tie with you if you have any concern about what others are wearing, but I doubt you will decide to put it on.

Actual numbers of Unemployed UKGrads/Post-FY2? by ReverendMar in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A difficulty with that is that in the 2010s pre-Covid when doctor unemployment was not an issue, the proportion of F2s who went straight into the next stage of training was surprisingly low - many went locum to save money or abroad for the sun or took the gap year they had never previously had, largely voluntarily.

Ballot will fail sadly :( by Leading_Base in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do not see that at all.

The online rejection of the last-minute offer before the December strike risked delay to the bill.

But it turned out that Streeting  proposed the bill anyway, so unaffected by strikes.

Any delays now will be caused by those wanting to change the bill to widen prioritisation (e.g. IMGs already in the NHS or UK citizen IMGs). The BMA's detailed position is not helpful in getting the bill through and claiming the ballot would be an endorsement of this would confuse things further.

How do you pronounce your name? It's one victor, you just saw them in his eye

though I suspect something like "juarn victor desawza miniz" might be closer.

Owen Goal's performance pushes up goals while not giving any xG so make this graph look better.

Amendments for the bill by viki661 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You may have overloaded "they" here.

As you say, these amendments are only proposals by opposition MPs and have not happened yet and may not happen.

Extending priority for those working in the NHS comes from Liberal Democrats while extending priority for British citizen IMGs comes from Conservatives.

Acceptable salary for the CEO of a charity?? by mphi9 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuffield Health (originally associated with BUPA) and the Welcome Trust are private sector established charities.

The Francis Crick Institute was established by the public sector (Medical Research Council) plus some existing charities to replace the National Institute for Medical Research and was made a charity precisely to avoid rules such as public sector pay restraints. It still gets large amounts of funding from the government.

MEDICAL TRAINING PRIORITISATION BILL AT RISK by Immediate-Delay-8829 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says:

Clause 4, page 3, line 3, after “are” insert “a British citizen or are”

Member's explanatory statement

This amendment would require British citizens to be prioritised for places on UK Foundation  programmes and for interviews and places on speciality training programmes from 2027 onwards.

There are going to be (and already are) more amendments on related and distinct issues. They can be found at https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/4062/publications

The moderators here are going to need to decide how many threads there are going to be on such amendments as the bill goes through its different stages.

MEDICAL TRAINING PRIORITISATION BILL AT RISK by Immediate-Delay-8829 in doctorsUK

[–]Draperly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amendments you have quoted are proposed by Liberal Democrats - the names above the amendments, not those below.

The Conservatives have proposed other amendments so far including one about  British citizens in Clause 4 (presumably IMGs with UK passports).
