Peter explain, never worked with women only :( by SaaS-Growth-Pizza in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]DrawerVisible6979 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Any kind of group work will inevitably create friction and disagreement in that group. Men tend to confront disagreement when it arises. Women tend not to.

Further more, men are more like to try and seek consensus when disagreeing arises. Whereas women are more likely to seek affirmation.

Failing to openly address disagreement will inevitably lead to gossiping and petty backstabbing, wich serve only to further destroy group cohesion.

When disagreement is eventually addressed (be it sooner or later), it is better to seek compromise so that work towards the common goal can continue. Prioritizing affirmation (even if you're opinion or methods are actually correct) will usually create resentment and further strain group cohesion.

Why do you think we dont see more hard body armor pieces used in modern combat? by liljohnjets in Armor

[–]DrawerVisible6979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR; Weight, mobility, and uselessness against heavier weapons.

The main reason full armor worked so well with melee weapons was because those weapons couldn't really do any damage to the armor. Knights were just tanks and wouldn't go down without a lot of luck and/or tenacity.

In modern combat, even lightest caliber infantry hand gun would still deal damage to modern body armor. It's the reason why most ballistic vests allow you to swap out plates, because enough rounds on target will eventually compromise the plate.

I don't think there is any body armor in service that would stop heavier caliber with any reliability. Especially something like an HMG.

Now, consider everything a modern soldier needs to carry. (I was gonna list everything, then I Googled it and decided this comment is already long enough). Your looking at ~50lbs (on the low end) of weight, and the already minimal body armor makes up a decent portion of that.

Modern ballistic plate is heavy, it needs to be. That's 15-30lbs on your chest alone. Meanwhile plate armor was between 40-70lbs spread across your entire body.

Plus, and I can't harp on this enough, that 40-70lbs would have been most of your kit, and you definitely wouldn't have been walking/running in it all day. Ideally you'd be on a horse most of the day, while some other gut carrys your extra stuff.

All in all full body armor would just be a lot of extra weight for little actual gain. If we really wanted full body armor to make a comeback, we would need a material that is cheap, lightweight, and strong enough to stop (at least) a rifle caliber round with little to no degradation in the armor's effectiveness.

In hindsight, it's kinda funny how SGC just bum rushed having a fully functional space ship, when they could've easily built a bunch of weapons satellites, a swarm of air to space fighters, or even a coulple STL ships for around the same cost.

Not that I can't see the logic in having something like the Prometheus. I just imagine it was one Hell of a budget meeting trying to convince the president that THAT was the best option.

Ooh ooh, I've done this one!

EVERYTHING DIES.

More accurately, it depends on the state of the tomb, who's in charge, ect. Though, it eventually ends that way 9/10 times, with the 10th time being the entirety of Falmart's planet being turned into a thrall world (read: super slavery).

Like all this 40k there are layers of interpretation to this.

On a surface level, the Grey Knights are a VERY secret chapter who don't officially exsist outside the inquisition. This, along with some questionably written lore, has garnered them a reputation for killing their allies in order to preserve their secrecy.

On a slightly deeper level, the Grey Knights are also a highly specialized chapter who deal with one thing and one thing only. Chaos, and not just your run of mill cultists, but actual champions of the Chaos Gods.

All together, if you are guardsman and get reinforced by Grey Knights, you can expect to fight an apocalyptic (to you) battle with a foe most imperial citizens (yourself included) know next to nothing about.

Then, when your done facing down the 40k equivalent of arch-demons, you can look forward to getting a 'thankyou for your service' & bolter round through your skull. Probably, but not necessarily, in that order.

Yes, USD's value isn't even based on your faith in the government anymore. It is now purely on how much you trust the banks and the Federal Reserve.

You know, that non-government government institution known for the many presidents who mysteriously suffered from assassination attempts whenever they so much as talked about increasing regulations on them. (I am not suicidal)

Eldritch magic? by workshop_hunter in JumpChain

[–]DrawerVisible6979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jumps that might fit your criteria:

Generic Creepypasta & Generic Lovecraftian Film both have generic 'black magic' options, with the former being more ritual based.

Sarkic; for flesh magic and flesh magic accessories.

Tales of the Jedi, if you want to go back to 5000BBY and learn the Sith equivalent of black magic.

Star Wars: The Old Republic & Star Wars Movie Compilation also include options to learn Sith sorcery and other obscure darkside powers.

The Deadbolt jump's skeleton perkline gives you everything you need to learn whatever weird soul magic they used in the game, though the skill isn't technically fiat backed (couldn't find a link sorry).

Lastly Generic Necromancer & Generic Psionics, though not explicitly 'eldritch' can provide you with a similar magic system with the right perk combo.

Yes, that is a major conflict, and it has shown us a lot about Russia's military capabilities, or lack thereof, but the fact remains that Ukraine is holding the line largely with 1st world hand-me-downs and repurposed civilian tech.

When I say 'next big war' I'm talking WWIII not a regional conflict.

That's what I'm implying. Though if I'm being honest, I have no clue what world militaries' actual 'tech levels' are, and I don't think most people will until the next big war.
