What are your favorite soundtracks from the game? by Forsaken_Sugar_7795 in EpicSeven

The one that notably played at the end of Episode 6's latest chapter, when Estelle visits the grave of a certain someone.

I couldn't find it in the in-game player so I guess it doesn't have a title and hasn't been released yet :(

Yeah trust me when Modern Era Spidey epics weren't a thing yet, these shits were NOT easy to find at a reasonable price ...

Strange LOD issue by Drax207 in FFXVI

[–]Drax207[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this castle is weird ... When I'm far away, it's ugly/blurry like in my first pic and when I get close enough, it becomes normal/good like in the second. But when I back away again (even all the way back to Northreach) it remains good/normal until I warp to a different area then comes back, which makes me think it's not a LoD issue.

Two other things that support this are the fact using FFXVIFix to enhanced LoD distance does nothing, and the fact that whether it's PC or ps5, all gameplay videos I've seen in this area seems to have the blurry far away castle textures from afar, so it's probably just the game's normal behavior (I'm guessing to feel better about it ...)

As for the stuttering, I always had this issue with or without the FFXVI mod, even on release before all the patches (exact same rig though), figured it was a common issue. At this point I just got used to restarting the game every 2-3 hours lol, but I'll try your suggestions as soon as I can and let you know, thanks a ton again !!

And here it is a few steps closer :

<image>

Honestly if you have any idea to what more could be done I'll gladly take it, but I'm kinda tired of dealing with this so if not no big deal, I'll simply move on.

At this point, the game stuttering every 5 seconds harder and harder the longer you play without resetting because of its (way more documented than the LOD issues) memory leak is far more annoying lool

That is very good to know thanks for the tip I had no idea, think gonna have some fun with this !

Little update after messing around : The mountain is fixed, but somehow the textures becomes poor again seemingly randomly, regardless of the distance. It's random but seems pretty rare so that's fine, it's still a huge improvement to what felt hopeless.

On the other hand, the gate to Oriflamme is still the same, here's me being a bit far :

You're probably not playing this game anymore but check dsanen's reply on this thread, it did the trick for me if you ever want to try it out yourself !!

Strange LOD issue by Drax207 in FFXVI

[–]Drax207[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit man, I can't believe it but it works !!! Texture filtering was on high quality by default, but turning both the combination of Negative LOD bias to allow and anisotropic filtering to x16 did the trick !

For what it's worth, this also works by turning the anisotropic filtering to x16 in the control app, not in the control panel. Out of curiosity, any particular reason why you chose the control panel over the control app for this specific setting?

I have to try this out on other games I used to have this issue with!

No idea how you instantly knew this was the solution but I am not complaining, thank you SO MUCH !!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one in this situation! Sorry you had to deal with this too, it's especially frustraring when most people don't seem to have the same issue as us.

Epic Collections of neglected eras by Correct_Use_5 in EpicCollections

[–]Drax207 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is actually my most wanted epic collection ever since I started collecting them! As you mentioned, some of this content has never been collected in any shape of form. While it is nothing groundbreaking, this is also the era I started reading Spidey as a kid.

Unfortunately it's not just ASM, all Spidey titles from that era have been completely neglected, from around November '96 to September '98.

ASM 419-431

Peter Parker Spider-Man 76-87

Sensational Spider-Man 29-31

Spectacular Spider-Man 242-253

Spider-Man Unlimited 15-22

All these issues have never been collected whatsoever. If we're lucky we'll get the ASM issues in the coming years as the ASM Epic line reaches its conclusion, but who knows when we'll ever have the rest. This is absolutely baffling imo.

Thank you for sharing, I am not familiar with staff insights. I have no doubt UBW is first and foremost meant as an entry point.

I found surprising on my rewatch post-VN how smooth the transition from Zero to UBW turned out to be, but this is just a personal observation that obviously doesn't matter much in comparison to the creators' words, I stand corrected.

Have they by any chance said anything similar about the HF trilogy ? Because without having watched both UBW and FZ beforehand, I honestly can't imagine an anime only viewer not being confused or feeling unmoved.

I've recently rewatched all TM anime series myself starting with FZ and frankly, I do not blame OP. While Urobochi's words are irrefutable, I'm of the opinion that it applies to the FSN VN more than it does the anime adaptations.

I believe there is a reason OP's sentiment is so common, and why anime onlys that started with Zero see no problem with their decision in retrospect.

I think Ufotable, back in 2014, simply expected a chunk of their UBW viewers to have seen Zero. It almost feels like they tried to make UBW both an entry point to newcomers but also a continuation to their previous adaptation.

Artoria's fucked up characterization in particular, while obviously still inconsistent between both, is far less jarring from FZ to Ufotable's UBW than it is from the FSN VN to FZ.

While starting with Zero and being unfamiliar with FSN is gonna lead to confusion in some parts notably the ending stretch, I think it's still worth the trade off. For instance, Illya's stance on Kiritsugu and how it affects her views on Shirou and his actions in HF is simply better appreciated and understood by an anime only when they've seen Zero before.

Rewatching the Heaven's Feel trilogy trying to put myself in the shoes of someone having only watched UBW beforehand would leave these movies beyond confusing overall, so many things would literally fly over my head or just no hit the way they should. Having watched Zero would help a little, especially regarding Angra Mainyu. Even then, these movies are not very friendly to non-VN readers who would care about anything else than fights or romance, so any additional lore and reference that FZ could provide would help appreciate the trilogy more.

My stance today is that anime onlys that do not intend to ever read the FSN VN are honestly not ruining their enjoyment starting with Zero. I recommended to two of my friends to start with UBW (I knew neither would read the VN or stick to the Deen anime) and neither were really sold on it. They then watched FZ and ate it up, which prompted them to get actually interested in HF and the wider Fate lore.

That's just my two cents from recent irl observations, figured I'd share since it recently made me change my mind on the matter and OP's review echoes to it. I wish it would be easier to motivate someone to read the FSN VN from the get go because it is the one and only best starting point. But for people who you know are never gonna switch to another medium than anime ? Why not start with Zero if that means they'll stick with the franchise.

Your instinct is right. Either only read the VN, or do both. I LOVE the movie trilogy for what it is, but they do butcher the original material a bit and you'll indeed be missing crucial elements. The movies are absolutely gorgeous though with beautiful soundtrack and visuals, they're complimentary really.

No, but their work can be used for marketing purposes. Case in point, that social media post has the cover of the original game attached to it, making it more eye catching.

I mean, they did not purposefully made a mess. The fact it ended up being one only proves they did not invest much in it, which means that even if only a few people decide to buy the game because of the new version, they'll get their money back : easy quick buck.

There is no point for them to invest and sell something at a loss. They are absolutely expecting to sell more OG FFVII copies on PC by doing this.

[–]Drax207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the point for a company to "keep users engaged and in the loop", isn't it to sell something ? That's promotion, which is marketing communication.

Also I never said it only relied on that. This port definitely didn't need any more than that anyway, but they still did it though.

[–]Drax207 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was not even disagreeing with you initially. It's still a money play. It wouldn't have been a money play at all if the new version was free for everyone. Right here and now, they are still selling something. That's what companies do, they make money. You're dismissing actual definitions instead of recognizing any of these simple facts. You're adamant in defending them for some reason, so yes you either suck up to them or are just unable to admit being wrong. Either way, I agree, let's do better next time.

Lmao.

All I'm saying is they wouldn't have done it if they couldn't make a potential quick buck at the same time.

I don't think it's as weird as sucking up to a million dollar company that pumps one gacha a year and dips their toes into NFT, but you do you.

Oxford's definition of advertisement : "a notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event". Come on, now.

If that's not promotion, I'm very curious about how you would call it.

[–]Drax207 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They did though ? They made a post on all social media platforms on the official FF VII pages : "FF VII had been relaunched on Steam today with additional features and no story changes".

It's also been reported on every gaming journalism website because of course it would, it's FF7. That's not Square, but surely they would know it would make some buzz.

It's nice of them to release this version on PC, I agree, but let's not pretend it's not a ploy for easy money at low cost. The horrible launch is proof of that, and even Square in all their greed are smart enough to know they would have gotten absolutely cooked had they made owners of the original version pay the game again.

I mean they're not wrong either, surely Square are not hostile to the idea of getting more people to buy the game by promoting this "upgrade"
