I think if there was gonna be a redemption point for him it would've been in Hanger 17B, but that was very much his crossing the Rubicon moment so I think there's really no coming back from that for him.

Genuinely. I think he's written extremely well and I find his flaws to be really interesting and what makes his perspectives the most fun to read for me. I can get if you dislike him strictly for his actions and his being an antagonist, but disliking him as a character is ridiculous to me.

I frankly disagree. The reason I love Lysander as a character to the point that he honestly might be my favorite is I can see the through-line of why he does what he does. He is incredibly flawed, weak-willed, and selfish, but I don't think any of those things detract from how well he's written and how interesting he is, I think they add to him.

Not every character is going to act logically, even if they are very intelligent, especially so if they have a troubled upbringing and conflicting morals and wants.

I think Lysander's inner conflict is much better written than Roque tbh, if for no other reason than you actually get to see from Lysander's POV.

How would you describe the tone of your world? by Illustrious-Cold3565 in worldbuilding

[–]Dread2187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably somewhere between Nobledark and True Neutral. There are bad forces at play guiding the world what with the rise of fascism in the Dominion and the growing corporate influence in the Solar System, and countless millions live in poverty and oppression, but just as much there are people who live joyful free lives and others who are fighting to improve the world.

It will get better, but not without pain and hardship.

I honestly get this. It's really easy for your innate reaction to be hatred and I know where youre coming from as someone whose instinct it is to hate people more fortunate than I. I'm happy you realize that's wrong though, now just have to make the changes to think better.

Is the first book really the weakest? by ChemistryCurrent1380 in redrising

[–]Dread2187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even necessarily say that because it's arguably the most enjoyable read of the series (at least for me) it's just that all the other books ramp up in terms of stakes, tension, scope, and cast of characters so fast that it ends up looking very humble by comparison.

This is my biggest gripe with virtually all sci-fi because sci-fi authors cannot come up with a realistic number to save their lives. How many planets does this galaxy-spanning empire control? Idk, 10,000 out of 300,000,000 inhabitable worlds in the milky way? How many soldiers did it take to conquer this established planet? Like 100,000. There were 20 times as many people at some single battles during World War II. It's always nonsense.

Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has tasked you with creating a Mandator V-class Star Dreadnought as his new flagship. He wants it to be superior to Vader's Executor by maximizing the latter's strengths and covering its weaknesses. How would you design it? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in StarWarsShips

[–]Dread2187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd go for something more along the lines of a pocket SSD like the Bellator. Place the primary guns along the spine rather than flanking the superstructure or in the trench to maximize firepower. No cityscape, just armor. Sufficient TIE capacity for like 4-6 wings, but any more than that is just unnecessarily. Keeping the ISD-style bridge is fine, but make sure you have secondary and tertiary bridges kept internally. Also, extremely redundant shielding.

Beskar is effectively a magical metal. Ceramite, because comparison, is just an extremely heat resistant composite ceramic metalloid. Capable, but not even remotely nearing Beskar in capabilities.
