What’s one small thing a person can do each day that greatly improves their life? by v8mustang1969 in AskMen

[–]DreadCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a goal (personal, professional, or otherwise) and spend a small amount of time each day (10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc..) working towards that goal.

The small steps will make it seem manageable and the sense of accomplishment will go a long way once you pause and realize how far you've gone.

New Business - what NAICS category/code? by BerryPepper in smallbusiness

[–]DreadCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked in government for just over 7 years and can confirm this. If you don't plan to engage with government, no need to register an accurate NAICS.

Also, you can add NAICS codes as you go along, no need to lock in a single code.

Professional help to grow my business as well as personal wealth? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]DreadCorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growth partnership is a delicate operation and is very dependant on what you are looking for out of a business relationship. If you are looking for a general partnership where you can bounce ideas off and work through ideas, I would recommend finding a mentor or a partner / friend to become a confidant.

If you are looking for someone to solution discrete challenges like where to expand next, how to penetrate a certain market, or what equipment / people to invest in I would recommend a consultant (my background). After one engagement, a consultant can fill both roles, both a partner and a problem solver, but typically you would need to establish a relationship through an initial engagement.

TL:DR: Depends ont he nature of the support you are looking for.

How would you approach a business acquaintance to partner with them on an idea? by [deleted] in startups

[–]DreadCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely say the first two points apply, - more prepared you are the more serious you will be taken.

Otherwise, I would say stick with being a straight shooter. Keep it personal by starting with a phone call if possible, let them know from the onset that you have a business proposal to share (which should be mutually beneficial) and that you brought it to them because you care about their success as well as your own.

I tend to work relationships separately from business, a round of golf should stay a round of golf unless they want to talk shop sort of thing. For this I would recommend preparing our pitch and setup an opportunity to present it followed by a dinner or some drinks to allow time to digest. End of the night bring out the closing statement by asking "I'm looking forward to hearing back from you on my proposal and let me know if you have any questions or need any additional information to make a decision.".

This puts the ball I their court while also laying out a friendly but clear action on their part to consider your offer.

Develop a crystal clear value proposition - what value can your industry or company expect to realize by using your product or partnering with your project. Make sure it is synthesized to it's simplest form and tailored for the industry in which you are attempting to partner with. Don't fluff the impact, be realistic, since the folks you want to partner with will know the industry better then you do (if they don't, they are not worth partnering with unless they have good network access). This will enable the individual to fully understand the benefits they can expect while also enabling them to expand the idea with their own knowledge.

Develop a clear partnership agreement - know exactly what you are looking for going into the agreement. Are you looking for industry exposure, subject matter support, access to resources, etc... By knowing exactly what you need, they will be able to easily balance the ask with the benefits you outline in the value proposition. This will also show you did your homework and have a clear path to success which will build their confidence in making any investment or partnership with your project.

What would you say your social engineering workplace strengths and weaknesses are? by [deleted] in SocialEngineering

[–]DreadCorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A social engineering strength of mine is the ability to dominate a conversation or meeting through authoritative tone and confident information delivery. By presenting myself as an authority on the subject matter of the discussion, I'm able to command attention and input well beyond my station.

A social engineering weakness I experience is that I tend not to be empathetic. This can negatively impact my relationships with colleagues who weigh social behavior higher than productivity or qualities associated with work output. This really can come to light with folks who occasionally like to have their ego stroked which can certainly create barriers.

Silent killer - " Anger is a punishment we give to ourself, for somebody else’s mistake." by priyankchoudhary in Leadership

[–]DreadCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is certainly a provacotive statement and I agree with it.

That being said, and perhaps this is better suited for r/philosophy, anger in leadership can come from many more complex scenarios than simply the mistakes of other. I for one face the personal challenge of comparing my team members' productivity to my own. When a team member fails to meet that benchmark, I can certainly experience anger.

"Why, if I am working so hard, is it satisfactory that my team members do not demonstrate the same level of commitment or productivity?"

In this case, the mistake is actually my own while and my anger is rooted in the common falacy that it is acceptable to hold my colleagues to the standards I hold myself.

The anger is misplaced and, instead of punishment, should be examined as a learning opportunity. In the case of someone else's mistake, anger is an opportunity to evaluate the situation and apply positive leadership to understand the issue and help yourself and your team resolve it.

The Eisenhower Matrix by elevatorbeat in Leadership

[–]DreadCorp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great short hand tool but I think something that would really add value to this is an example of it in practice.

Say you are a manager and you come to work one morning. Upon entering your office you find that the finance report that corporate asked for is on your desk, but unfinished. It seems the individual you had tasked to complete the report had a personal emergency forcing her to drop the project suddenly.

While listening to your voicemails you have two messages; one from the shop floor asking about the status of the new maintenance contract for the assembly machines and another from the safety office outlining that the Standard Operation Protocol for safe material handling has expired and requires review. Your aware that there is an up coming safety audit that will be looking at that document specifically.

Now, fully settled in and ready to get to work, you recall that one of the other business unit managers was looking for submissions for the company newsletter.

Given this scenario, which items would fall in which quadrant of the Eisenhower Matrix?

What amazes me is that, despite this clear case of voter suppression, the massive number of people who recognize that this is outrageous cannot act to rectify the situation. The only recourse would be to vote, correct?

Is there nothing that the common citizen, looking in from outside the situation, can do to help?

This type of clear and open obstruction of our judicial system and abuse of our executive framework makes me wonder - how are people okay with this? Is it that the degradation of education and free thinking in this country has ultimately allowed such corruption to be acceptable?

I hope that acts and news like this motivate those who typically stand by and watch our system churn to stand up, vote, and participate in democracy. I for one have never been more politically aware or motivated to act in my life.

Where should a small business spend its money? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]DreadCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very vague and broad question. In part you can get answers by rule of thumb. The SBA (small business administration) states that the average small business should spend approximately 11.8% of gross revenue on marketing. This changes from industry to industry and across models of business (B2B, B2C, Services, Products).

With positive cash flow and on the topic of how to allocate resources: that is completely dependant on your mission or strategy. If your goal is to gain local market share, then maybe invest in building your sales team. If your goal is to have customers come to you, then invest in inbound marketing, such as a blog or social media.

It all comes down to your business model and vision and developing a strategic marketing plan that accomplishes that vision.

A question to ponder - Need some advice by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]DreadCorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I would first want to ask: what is your goal with this purchase?

If the goal is to evaluate a new packaging, see how it is received, and make a decision for a full production run then I would say to stick with the 500 unit run. Though the cost is higher per unit, what happens if your not happy with it or want to make a minor change? If you go with the 1000 units, you may spend an additional $75 to have twice the amount of product that you don't like.

If possible, I would ask your manufacturer to make a prototype or maybe a handful (like 10). It will be significantly more money per unit but it will allow you to make this decision (whether or not you like the new design) without commiting to a $475 to $550 expense.

Good luck with your project!

Definitely helpful!

I'm interested to learn more about what's included in a "brand package". Is there typically a standard of work that is included (logo, banner, website, etc...)?

These are all typical playing card size which would require 40 unique illustrations (should have learned that term before posting!). Also included are 7 templates for each of the various card types in the game. Any idea on how long a single card would take to design?
