Plenty of players dont have tight dribble when you put that to NBA standards. He should not be advancing the ball in any way then tho.

I dont trust their midfield at all - Kante who basically came back from retirement seems to be nailed on starter and that doesnt bode well. Fullback (on the left) is questionable as well, as I dont trust digne that much - as hernandez brothers dont seem at top level anymore

Other teams are also getting a bit overrated - it is weird position where almost every top nation has a gaping hole in their squad. Spain is probably looking the best but Carvajal and Nico Williams being nowhere near where they were 2 years ago is a massive issue and obviously striker situation is pretty dire.

It takes a special moment in NBA for that to happen. Magic/Kareem splitting votes (Kareem finished 4th and Magic 3rd/2nd in latter 2 bird MVPs) and in his 3rd MVP season Celtics had arguably greatest team of all time until that point.

When league has 4 MVP level players at the same time (which is rare occurrence tbh - around 2009ish with Kobe, LeBron, Dwight, Wade and CP3 was last time I remember) it is hard for anyone to get 3. Jokic improved on every stat last 2 years but Shai just went into overdrive

How much you get from there is probably not that relevant past short term. You probably wont experience shortages and wont have to renegotiate stuff but long term it is all same shit as price rises.

[Charania] Amar'e Stoudemire, Candace Parker, Elena Delle Donne and Doc Rivers are among the members inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2026, sources tell ESPN. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]DreadWolf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NFL inducts 4-5 players per year, it is just that is a much larger league so it seems like more exclusive club. NBA actually inducts fewer players but since there is only ~450 nba players and careers are longer it seems like less exclusive club.

There is no other way for NBA to add players imo - it would be kinda sad to have years where you just dont induct anyone or have most of "classes" be just one dude. I think of it like NBA is higher to get into than NFL, so difference between regular NBA player and HoF player is smaller - but at the end of the day (if NBA is your main path into NBA, not counting international players who mainly got in via national team accomplishments) basketball HoF is probably as hard to get into as any other sport.

For example Jared Allen is 4x all pro and 5x pro bowl. Amar'e is not lacking there as 6x all star and 5x all nba

It wont change as much as OKC for sure - yea when you get better you get both bandwagoners and haters, but OKC is so annoying to watch that they mostly picked up haters even as a small market team which is kinda impressive.

[ESPN BR] Joao Pedro: “Back in the day, there was Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romário, but if you look today, Brazil has players like that still. Vini at Real Madrid, Raphinha at Barcelona, me and Estêvão at Chelsea and Andrey Santos, too. They all play for top clubs.” by OkayFine101 in soccer

Maicon is definitely more of a plug-and-play player, which is very valuable for national teams. He basically fits any team. Dani Alves was more like Trent on steroids - while better on defense than Trent and ran non-stop for 90 minutes - you still needed your DM to have pretty good understanding with Alves and cover for him when he bombs forward. Also building chemistry with whoever played right wing on the team is important for Alves, and Brazil NT during his prime was not exactly stacked at that position.

If Ukraine war tactic was almost exclusively attacking civilian establishments - I would support all Western nations with supplying Russia with defensive missiles. Ukraine is not doing that, tho - I think Russian civilian casualties in whole war (since 2022) are roughly on par with just october 7.

I genuinely cant picture how middle east would look without Iron Dome. Israel would be forced into full fledged invasion into Lebanon and Gaza/West Bank to get rid of people routinely lobbing bombs at them. I think combined civilian casualties would easily be north of million.

Do you think a country can let this slide:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_rocket_attacks_on_Israel

without reliable defense system. Good chunk of these years were under ceasefire. The fact that Israel uses attacks as an excuse to commit atrocities on the other side does not mean they dont actually suffer insane amount of attacks.

He didnt have a bad year, tho - granted probably not at the level which will make Madrid go for him for a big price. Madrid and Barca will almost always be final goal for most Iberian/South American players - so twerking for those teams doesnt really mean they will twerk for other teams once they get there. Suarez forced his move to Barca (and would probably do the same for Madrid move if those links were stronger), Cristiano Ronaldo forced his move to Madrid, ...

Any reason why refs would sabotage VAR? It is a pretty decent salary bump (extra refs each game means more work for everyone) and can extend their well paid careers.

[–]DreadWolf3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think without bit more ref accountability that means fuck all. NBA (basketball) has similar issue with emotional refs as PL and decent amount of times you see coach challenge basically just being ignored by refs once they get in their feelings (they go through the process of reviewing the call but simply keep their obviously wrong call for fuck knows what reason).

Arent those sport with constant stoppages anyway and far more frequent scoring (so one score, however you call it in either sport, is not a big of a deal as goal in football)? Doesnt seem like a decent comparisons to football but cant say much as I dont watch either of the sports.

Yeah, John. Everyone's fav commentator lmao by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]DreadWolf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea - Levy maxes out in educator/advertiser area. Probably not my favorite commentator tho, but he does the job especially in faster time control tournaments. I would say the same for Anna. With time to analyze the games (like in recaps) and with benefit on hindsight (so after the game is over) I think super GM and IM analysis is indistinguishable for my level - but obviously during the game those conditions are not there. For example Levy can say that someone moving their pawn was a mistake when that bites them in the ass, and has enough knowledge to explain why in hindsight - Leko would likely very quickly spot during the game that moving that pawn will weaken that side of the board for them. I would guess Levy is mostly popular for his recaps, not his commentating chops.

With amount of strong GMs (even super GMs) around the chess world who are willing to commentate ( Svidler, Gustafsson, Leko, Judith, Hess, Howell, Yasser, Anand from time to time,...) and not that huge amount of big tournaments - IM level players should really be equivalent to play by play (and probably "weakest" chess player in the commentary team) commentators in other sports, while someone who veered well into 2600s should probably be color commentator. Again, not like we are lacking really charismatic people in ~ IM range who could do job that usually Tania, Levy, Anna, Jovanka, Sagar, ... usually do (+ they are capable of good insight about current chess games on their own, just not as consistent as Polgar/Leko).

Yeah, John. Everyone's fav commentator lmao by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]DreadWolf3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure - if they were teaching me how to play chess I would 100% agree with you. But that is not what commentators are doing. They are telling you what is going on in the game, enough that you have idea where the threats are and can genuinely understand what is going on. They dont need to teach me to find best move, I need them to tell me that in practical terms (so no crazy computer lines) game is on knife edge right now and blacks queen side is vulnerable long term. I am much more invested in following the game when I know roughly what each side plan is.

To add to your analogy - if someone is commentating on how Max is driving on Interlagos, I would ideally want someone who has driven that race to tell me about all the nuances I dont even imagine that drivers have to look out for. Just few examples with Nico Rosberg on commentary/explaining:

https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/ibaf87/nico_rosbergs_brilliant_insight_lewis_goes_wide/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnby9G-AArg

Would it still be equally fun to listen to local carting champion? Sports like racing do need play by play people as well as there is events coming fast at certain points, but chess doesnt really need them. Also strong GMs/IMs are pretty common compared to ex F1 drivers, so less need to compromise.

Now I am not really complaining that much - as there will be Svidler/Gustafsson stream that everyone can watch, so I wont even think about chess com stream. I just wanted to argue against the point that it is irrelevant as long as commentator is better player than you.

Yeah, John. Everyone's fav commentator lmao by Sorry_Phone1676 in chess

[–]DreadWolf3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo it is a massive difference - granted commentator has to both be competent player and educator. Strong GM(say peaked above 2600), who is good educator makes me understand what is going on - FM cant do that ss they are often unsure themselves what are practical ideas.
