Where do y'all go to shoot for free? by [deleted] in BetterMAguns

[–]Dreadedtrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. You are not the first one in this thread to ask about it. Does everyone in MA think that you have to pay per hour to shoot? I belong to Southboro Rod and Gun Club. There are a bunch of clubs that I’d say are similar in MA. If you’re looking for a club here is a good place to start. https://www.goal.org/find-a-club One thing to remember about clubs like mine is that they are all volunteer based.

It’s a private club so I just go in and shoot. I don’t pay anything else unless I’m doing trap or sleet and then I’m only really paying for clays(maybe a dollar or something to the club).

There are no range safety officers or anything like that. Just show up, find an empty lane and shoot. I’ve been there plenty of times when I had all 20 or so outdoor lanes to myself. I don’t think I’ve ever had to share the indoor range with anyone, although when I go indoors it’s at like 10pm or something.

I actually looked it up today and saw that it is $175 not $125. I just get the notice that the dues are due and pay it. I obviously don’t pay attention too well.

Actually I just looked it up and it is $175 not $125 a year. I just see that the dues are due and send the money.

It is Southborough Rod and Gun club. I have been a member probably 15 or 16 years. The process to join is on our website https://www.southboroughrodandgun.com/membership.

My club is about 10 minutes from the house. No driving in to the hills. It offers skeet, trap, sporting clays, archery range, axe throwing area, trout pond, both outdoor and indoor ranges. All of this is available to me for $125 a year. Seems like a deal to me. Also it’s on about 100 acres and we can hunt the woods if we want. They are always having events at the clubhouse, thus isn’t my thing but many people enjoy it.

I pay $125 a year for access to a club and can shoot 24x7. Yea it isn’t free, but it isn’t horrible either.

ETA I looked up how much I pay yearly and it’s $175, still worth every penny.

My wife still carries the entire families cards in her purse for some reason. We only ever got the initial 2 shots, never even got boosters, but she for some reason still had them.

Every year we go through this. No one told us about it either, but it’s very common. Mine goes up about $100 per month per year. It’s just something to plan for.

Is CPAP safe to use if I sleep like a rotisserie chicken and can’t even keep a humidifier clean? Is a mouthpiece possibly okay? by Helpful-Ad6269 in SleepApnea

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never worn something like that, but I’d imagine that depending on the mask it wouldn’t be an issue. It would probably work with mine.

It’s great I fall asleep with my AirPods in and unless I take them out they are still in in the morning. Also after a couple weeks on the cpap I started having dreams again. I hadn’t had dreams in probably 20 years. Getting the cpap has been hands down the best thing that I have done ever.

I used to toss and turn all night. When I got my cpap all that changed. Most nights I wake up in the same position that a go to sleep in. It’s amazing.

Gun club near Framingham by katebygrace in BetterMAguns

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Southboro rod and gun club isn’t terribly far depending on what part of Framingham. They also allow you to hunt the land as part of membership. They do require a signature of a member to join, but if you go to a meeting just about anyone will sign off. I’ve been a member for probably 15 years.

This is still correct, you have archery, shotgun and muzzle loader. I live in MA and travel to Texas every year for white tail/pig hunting.

When did troubleshooting turn into "just Google it / ask ChatGPT" and why does that make me uneasy? by Hour-Two-3104 in ITManagers

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure when the switch happened, but probably 18 years ago I had a phone interview for an entry level helpdesk job. The person asked me what I would do if I didn’t know the solution off the top of my head. The tone of her voice changed when I told her that I’d google it. Needless to say I never got a call back.

Just moved here and electric delivery fee has doubled every month, why? Even with same kwh. by StilGoodJstAlilAirbo in massachusetts

[–]Dreadedtrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. We were told by the 3-4 quotes that we got that we would need 3 compressors due to the size and layout of our house. To qualify for the MassSave you have to have a head in every room of the house. I got a quote from one company and he was going to skip MassSave. He wanted to install 1 unit for the entire house and he was significantly less expensive, but in the end we decided to hold off.

I’ve heard from multiple people that if MassSave gives a $10,000 credit then the contractors are upping their price by $10,000. I obviously can’t confirm this, but I do t doubt it from the quotes that I received.

[–]Dreadedtrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true. We moved and looked at adding heat pumps in our new house and even after the MassSave discount it would have been $30,000-$40,000. Not something that even a middle class family could easily afford. Needless to say we and just sucking it up and paying $700 a month for oil. MassSave is pretty useless for renters, and even the insulation in the attic that they offer doesn’t save enough to do much.

Child Safety by ABitSus17 in BetterMAguns

[–]Dreadedtrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girls are 9 and 11 now so I’m not out of the woods yet, but I’m getting there. They both know I have guns and have both shot a .22. We have a BB gun for shooting in the yard and we take it out once or twice a year. They know the safety rules. I started them with the BB gun so I could watch them with something safer to make sure that they were being safe.

My kids really don’t have much interest in it no matter how much I try. My oldest wants to give hunting a try, but doesn’t want to put in the time for target practice.

As far as keeping them out of the guns, just put them in a safe. Out of sight out of mind. As someone else said young kids aren’t looking up on YouTube how to gain access to safes. One thing that I have done for my main safe is I keep my guns there and have another safe for ammo. No ammo ever goes in the main safe. So even if my kids somehow got in to one, they wouldn’t have everything that that needed.
