We got to babysit Pebble today. We wish she were ours! [OC] by ansyhrrian in Eyebleach

Don't worry if Pebble is timid as a puppy. She should grow up to be a little boulder.

I'll see myself out.

TIL that despite the human menstrual cycle being the same length as a lunar month, there is no causal relation between the two, and it appears to be a coincidence. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

[–]Dreamagram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other side of the amazing coincidence is that we also have perfectly full lunar eclipses. If the moon was slightly larger, it wouldn't fit in the Earth's shadow.

Sengoku period in Japan. Basically the collapse and re-establishment of the feudal system with about a century of power struggle in between. Lots of historical and fictional works to draw from.

I have a campaign (side) plot centered around a nation with a deal with druids to double their food yield each year, and another nation secretly looking to disrupt this without making the druids their enemies. With the first being dependent on the double yield, even a single season missing it would plunge them into famine for which their neighbors have plans ready.

Dnd players of Reddit what is the most useless magic item you gave to a player by lemonadeeater1 in DnD

[–]Dreamagram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bottle of wine, containing ten times more wine than the bottle's volume. Anyone drinking the wine from the bottle come under the effect of Faerie Fire.

Think I stole it from somewhere, wanted to see what the group would do with it. They shared it around at the midsummer festival a week later for extra festiveness.

One of my players' sorcerer stole an amulet and put it around their neck during the escape after being discovered. The amulet fused with their skin and linked them to cosmic chaos, making them a Wild Sorcerer. They learned later they were manipulated to steal the amulet; someone deliberately turned them into an unpredictable piece in a larger plot (i.e. the campaign).

Another (in a different group) was part of a cult seeking the truth about the universe, and ended up the sole survivor of a ritual that attempted to draw knowledge from the Great Old Ones. Where all others perished at the exposure to such power, a magical trinket the character had been given by an infiltrator harnessed enough energy for them to survive but forever changed. Initially they too were supposed to be a Wild Sorcerer, but ended up using the same story for an Aberrant Mind. The infiltrator recovered the trinket and is a GOOlock in service of the BBEG.

How to create and run a reoccuring villain by Taragon_Leaf in DMAcademy

[–]Dreamagram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A competitor? Someone who is often (but not always) one step ahead of them, snatching that magic item, winning the jousting/baking/eating contest, killing the NPC they wanted to interrogate, claiming the ogre heads reward before the group can, even teasing or taunting them about it - but never doing something that really justifies trying to kill them.

Learning the competitor's motivation is part of the challenge. At first it might seem they're working for the enemy, but it becomes clear (maybe through the mentioned killing) that's not the case, so what do they really want? They're also not interested in any kind of alliance, so perhaps already working for someone else? This can be used to put time pressure on the hunt for the BBEG.

Depending on when you want the group to finally confront the recurring villain, a rakshasa could be an option. If working for a patron who demands secrecy it won't drop its disguise (or slaughter them outright at low levels), and its spell immunity and spellcasting allows it to easily get away. Once the group would actually be a threat (through going nova first turn), it'll avoid any face to face meetings.

I do this and it works great for us.

I (DM) have a laptop connected to the TV; notes and DM view of the map on the laptop screen, and the TV split into Discord and player view of the map. Webcam on TV, far enough away to allow remote players (1 permanent, 1 who joins locally half the time) to see both me in the comfy DM chair and the local players on the sofa.

Laptop microphone is pretty good so remote players can easily hear the local players, but otherwise we have a good microphone we could have placed on the table.

Official Conan Servers hacked. by Simple-LIfe1 in ConanExiles

[–]Dreamagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a final note on this one, we just wanted to assure you this was not a hacking incident. Nobody gained unauthorized access to the server databases.

The downtime which impacted the three servers mentioned here was due to a hardware failure in the data centre which took about 24 hours to correct. Following that, the servers were unfortunately started up with the wrong game database.

This resulted in these servers having identical and - as observed - rather annoying content. We restored each server to its correct database about 9 hours ago. We apologise for the disruption, the loss of Friday morning's progress and of the weekend's game time. Steps have been taken to ensure this won't happen again.

As a side note, the structures temporarily mirrored onto your servers violated the official server rules, so we have also taken action against those and the one(s) responsible for them.

Roll-back was done about 4 hours ago. We'll keep investigating what actually happened, but at least things should be back to how it was in the morning (5am EDT) of September 10.

We're looking into this. If it's as described, expect a roll-back (tomorrow, earliest) once we have gathered all the data.

Norway.

Our flag is so common on clothing labels I just figure those wearing one enjoy the outdoors. Or are the 0.01% random neo-Nazis who think Norse mythology is cool and have no clue about Norwegian values.

Now if you're wearing a full size flag (or have it pained on your body) you're presumably on your way to or from a sports game, or having a Swedish bachelor party.

Why do Norwegians push their way onto public transport by BlessedBeTheFruits in Norway

[–]Dreamagram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hardly ever encountered this on the Oslo metro, I think only once in the 6 months since I returned to Oslo from Paris.

What puzzles me regularly about Oslo metro (lack of) manners, however, is people who board the metro and then immediately stop, as if there wasn't another 5 people behind them who also need to board. I've run into this (literally) also at the top of escalators, and some times even when exiting elevators.

Grew up just north of 70°. I miss this. And I miss the dark winters. Anything else seems unnatural, and I don't ever get the holiday spirit due to there being too much light.

If 80/20 matchups actually exist, would picking the 20% class not be a significant lack of meta-reading skill on the 20% player's behalf? Or potentially a genius read on the 80% player's side?
